I have no idea if that is all going to help folks to diagnose this problem, but it was a bit Therapeutic for me to type it out.

Even if this doesn't work, I just want to once again say this has been awesome to have folks step in to try and solve my problem:

This means it verified you got the install package and it passed the checksum.

Error says it was a problem updating your .net framework. Try that MS knowledgebase article for clues. Run the little fix it app as well, that usually helps.

We are here to help as best we can

Just let us now where you are at now going forward

being on the same system with the problem(S) seems like a good omen; but most of the time for addressing minor issues; its never wrong to be safer than sorry.

I don't count resolution til you get into a few full MWO matches.

I had the same problem. Turn off auto-patching in the launcher, run the Repair Tool from the launcher, and it will then fix the erroneous files.

Golrar - tried the "Fixit " tool you gave me a link to... It wasn't compatible with Win 8, so I couldn't run it. I did run the Scan for Corrupted Files program, but again, that didn't help with downloading the game.

Appogee, do you mean the Windows auto patcher? Because I currently don't have MWO on my computer.

OK, like I said, I know next to nothing about Windows 8, but I found this might help to restore your .net manually. Please ignore the stupid tone of voice in the video.

Everything I am searching for shows this error being something to do with your .net framework.

Sigh,

I tried the suggested "Fix-it" tool from Windows that is supposed to help with these types of Fatal Errors, but it tells me I need to download version 2.0 or higher of the .NET framework. I go to download that, and my computer tells me I already have version 4.5 of the .NET framework, so there is no need to download an older version of the program!? A Catch 22 endless loop if ever I saw one. <_<

Question? - Can I safely wipe this >NET framework thing off the computer and then re-install it? Or, will that make things worse?

I have to be careful as this is a Family computer that my wife and kids use as well. It's maddening because everything else that my Kids (games/movies/Netflix) and my wife (work/Internet) do with the computer seems to be JUST FINE. It's only this game that isn't working! <_<

Also, Alex from Tech Support here on MWO thought maybe the Public Test Version of the game I had installed was interfering with a fresh istall of the regular game. I tried to wipe it (normally) and got an error message. I used the REVO soft ware suggested by one of you, and got it off the computer. BUT, that didn't seem to help when I went to try a re-install tonight.

This is just ridonkulous.

I imagine removing the .net would be a problem for those apps that use it.

This is my last shot:

http://windows.micro...ework-windows-8

Read the part about installing older versions (3.5)

As I said, I don't use Win8 myself, so I am really grasping at straws but want to help someone get back to enjoying the game.

Aha! I just tried "Installing" The 3.5 'service pack' for the .Net Framework.... and NOTHING happened! I asked it to run the .exe file again, and again nothing happened. This might be the problem?

I find this interesting because when I go to update the 4.5 version it chews on it... and then tells me I have that version already. This program just seems to not work at all. No screen telling me I am updated past this program.

Ok, I went to the 'Turn Windows Applications section of my control panel, and the .Net framework 3.5 box is there... and checked off (indicating its activated?). So... why does the "Fix-it" tool tell me it's not on the computer?! Gah! wtf dude...

So again, we have to ask, are you logged in as administrator? I could see this happening if you were on a regular user account.

Here's another resource:

http://msdn.microsof...=vs.110%29.aspx

Pay particular attention to the Troubleshooting steps, specifically the security updates that prohibit the installing of .Net 3.5 and the update that resolves the issue.

As Far as I know yes, I have Admin status ( I don't get asked for someone else's password when changes need to be made on the computer, it merely asked for my permission to change things)

It's funny, I was just on this same Web page about the 3.5 version not 5 min ago! As far as I can read, it seems to say that this version is not automatic, you need to WANT it on your computer, and then you can enable it by checking it off in the 'Features' area... right? Because I HAVE the icon/box to check in my 'Features' area its installed on the computer...does that seem logical?

Well for my PC (Win7) I log in - but I have to manually restart it a certain way to access "Administrator Mode" to be able to make some changes (much to the frustration of my more PC-knowledgable friends)

Edit: do not remember how off the top of my head though - and Win8 is set up so differently....

Ok, I am shooting in the dark here, but does the lines in the Log File where something is "Absent" mean it's not on my computer (or not detected by the install, or not reaching my computer)?

Is the install program itself not getting to my computer?

There is a line that says - - Detected package: MechWarrior_Online.msi, state: Absent, cached: None

Shar, if I go to the User Accounts section I am listed as an "Administrator". But, I think you are saying there is a level of control above and beyond that.... any guesses as to if/how I reach that level if I am not there already folks?

Does that need to be done with Windows version 8?

My account is labeled as Administrator as well - but it still makes me re-log in to actually act as Administrator.
Given the way my friends react when they help me with it - I am fairly sure that is not normal though. -_-

That line is normal for the install. Obviously, if you are doing a fresh install you don't want it to already be on the system, right?

Unless I am reading that completely wrong. Which there is a better than 50/50 chance as I am not a programmer. But I seems to have the intuitiveness of a mongoose so take it as you will.

I think the whole thing revolves around that .Net 3.5. As to why it isn't working, again I am not familiar with Win8. If you unselected the box for .Net 3.5 and it didn't chug along like it was uninstalling something, and then when you checked the box it didn't do same (can't really say chug anymore since everybody uses SSDs), then I would think there is an issue right there.

I know I am being obtuse, but you DID follow the directions in the video and in print to the letter, right? And did you by chance try rebooting after you removed the check and then clicking the check to install the .Net 3.5? I don't think that was in the video, but doesn't hurt to try.

As much as I hate to say it, and with other users on the PC it doesn't seem to be an option, you may need to factory reset the OS to fix this if nothing else is working. Yes, this will wipe all personal documents, pictures, files, etc. So like I said, not much of an option unless you have a back up or an external drive you can send everything to. Then the whole process of re-installing any applications you added, setting personal settings, etc.

Or, you could always give support a link to this thread so they can see everything you tried and wait on their reply.

I assume I did something wrong (its always human error I know) before, but this time I was able to 'install' the 3.5 .NET software. Not sure if that's going to be the be all / end all , but now I will try installing MWO....

Nope, same error msg.

Will try running the Fix-it now...
