Learn to turn on and off ams?

I've seen lots of mechs that have ams on the whole match, even though they and others are hiding behind buildings and there is little chance of actually getting hit.

Basically they are grinding through all that ammo for nothing and then get stomped by an LRM user that held off on the rain till the target was guaranteed later in the match.

If I go under the HPG manifold the first thing I do is turn off ams, yeah I might get hit by some streaks, but I can turn it back on after that and not waste a ton of ammo on stuff going above the whole complex.

I've found lights by tracking their ams rounds too and I've fired lrms over their head deadfire just to see if they were where I thought they were. It is like a ghetto UAV.

Opposing to this thread I many times heard in random: - "Thanks god we have that LRM20." or "Rossario can you slam that Whale behind the hill please?", or even "Can we get more of theese LRM20 at here?".

I know, I'm noob who use MadCat-Prime with 2xLRM20 and 3xERML+2xLPL build. Red team will always hate LURM shover.

Yup, take AMS where you can and take Radar Deprivation Module. If still being hit, shoot down UAV if possible. I take Improved UAV as one of my consumables on every mech. And stay near cover or able to get to some quickly. Bring an ECM mech or my favorite, 3x AMS with AMS Overload and AMS Range Kit Fox.

Historically, bitching about LRMs on the forums has proven to be a more effective method of lowering LRM damage than equipping AMS.

Ways to avoid LRM damage/deaths:
1) Use cover dammit.
2) Stay with ECM/AMS Mechs instead of running off like an idiot...a dead idiot.
3) Get the Module(s).
4) How about taking a ton and a half from your Mech build and put in a @#$%ing AMS already. What?! Reduce my fire power for defense? What?!
5) Equip an ECM if you can (I see many ECM Mechs without a damn ECM.Grrrrrr).
6) When you have inbound LRMS swivvel your Mech from side to side to spread damage across your Mechs Torsos and arms.
7) Twist your torso using an arm as a shield.
8) Get in his face and kick his teeth in. Clan LRMs are worthless close in, and IS LRMS do zero damage within 180 meters.
If you aren't doing most of these, then don't b!tch about LRMs. PERIOD.

3) Get the Module(s). Doesn't help if you are NARC'd, TAG'd, or just spotted by an enemy

This one is my personal favorite. There is no expectation of safety or guarantee of survival at all in combat. None, zero, nadda.

The idea of rushing the LRM boats is that as a group, the group capitalizes on the death of whoever was killed during the approach. In my experience, twisting while continuing to move at the LRM boats, a mech will last quite a long time. If they use cover they can get even closer before having to expose themselves. (Yes there's 1 map, Alpine where the approach is tricky, every other map has approaches.)

Last night on Mining colony, we had a game where the other team had a row of missile boats at the back of a grid location that was across the open. Our Atlas tanked the LRMS straight across the open area, Yes this is a thing, you can actually tank these, and our team got right up into brawl range. He died, but we won 12-3. The first 3 guys into the brawl did good damage, mixed them up, and completely disrupted their formation. They died and as a result the team won.

As a LRM boat my favorite thing in the world is when the other team comes up with all these reasons why they won't equip AMS, ECM, or why they can't push. My favorite games are when the other team sees 1 LRM volley then rolls over and dies, turtles up in the worst possible place, and just die in place while waiting around for PGI to nerf LRMS right then, right there, in that game for them. And it's in my interest if they really do believe they are helpless. That's just easy wins right there, every time. Keep feeling helpless and keep coming up with excuses since it appears to be working for you.
