On average in meaningless PUG matches, yes, it doesn't matter. In a key moment of a battle deciding if a faction keeps a planet or loses it, no, it matters a lot.

I got stuck on River City during a MRBC League match. Still killed 2 enemies :-)

Not sure if this has been asked already, but i would like to know what happens if i'm part of a unit that excepts a permanent contract, what happens if i leave that unit? Are there any restrictions to leave units? Can i switch back and forth units to bypass the whole contract thing? Or am i bound to a factions permanently just because my unit is?

Regards, Myke

Not happy about the 140 min weight required its very unfair to heavy/assault pilots.
While all heavy/assault pilots are forced into playing chassis they dont want to because of the 240 restriction, Light pilots already driving the most bugged mechs in the game are free to drive the mech of their choice every drop.
Seems the light pilots are favoured again.. seems legit.
If some of us are forced to play mediums/lights that we dont like to keep within the tonnage required why shouldnt Everyone have to apply to that.
Besides if this happens the games are going to be very Light dominated, just do the math..youre going to get the situation and i think quite often of seeing 8+ lights in a drop,, great fun playing lagmech warrior..
Get rid of the minimum tonage and dont be biased towards Lights again.

I find it comical that people who are not in units complain about not fitting into community warfare. Personally, I don't think they should be involved at all, as they are clearly not participating in the community aspect of the game.
I mean srsly, how would that even work? Go wait at the bus stop for a dropship to pick you up and go raid a planet with some strangers? Cmon...

Considering something like 80% of the MWO community are solo pug players, who do you expect to fight if they dont play??
20% of the population? good luck finding a game...
seriously

The solo and group queues operate independently from each other today and groups can find drops rather easily, so I don't see why CW would be any different.

What I do see are solo pug players who participate in CW will be added to smaller groups and put up against larger pre-mades and likely get stomped due to lack of communications/coordination. Unless there is going to be a solo CW queue and group CW queue, which I don't think are in the current plans, if I am not mistaken.

Difference is the current group Q is going to be split up into close to a dozen factions playing on different planets literally adding 6 different Qs plus the normal team Q and solo Q what 8 or more Qs all different?, as i said lucky for the Groups that pugs are around..

From an immersion aspect, so much this.

ML would probably just run a a Merc unit without an affiliation if it were possible, unfortunate it appears we have to align with a faction.

"Way back when" in the MW4 Vengeance League *any* unit could pick up a player from a Merc unit to fill out a dropship. The Merc got paid his portion on a win.

That's how it *should* be designed here IMHO, any unaffiliated Merc unit should be able to fill in the gaps of a drop ship for CW. That's the role of a Merc, to fight for the contract/cbills.

From an immersion aspect any government would be more willing to use associated resources (e.g. members of the same faction but other unit) than pay for questionable outside assistance. Mercenaries are preferred when the job has a potentially high mortality rate or the Merc corp in question has an excellent reputation for getting the job done.

Since we don't have the aspect of high risk combat zones (nobodies really dies in game) the only other factor is reputation. Without the ability to pick and choose which lone wolves and Mercs you would like to have in your drop then known faction members of another unit are preferred. Either that or "you get paid of you win" for Mercs or whatever contract can be made out in advance, but that aspect is out since you cant pick and choose when you drop for a defense, though on an attack it would work.

Neg. Aside from special cases like the private war between the Dragoons and House Kurita or the Dragoons seeking vengeance on Anton Marik, a merc unit does not fight for itself, but is always hired by a noble, a society, a House.. So they are always fighting for a faction, basically.

And any half-reputable merc unit would not fight for 3 different houses in 3 different battles. Even the Dragoons honored their contracts mostly, and have been in service of each House for years.

what immersion do you really expect?

1 of 2 things will happen

You'll all be stomping the massive amount of PUGs and grinning ear to ear because of your awesome skills or you'll all be back on here bitching and moaning it is no fun because the PUGs are ruining your fun because you all refuse to accept them as real players. You ***** because your 4 man got put with 8 PUGs and they "Lost" the match for you.

You all talk like 1%'er and the pugs are dirt although we greatly out number you. This is one of the greatest problems with this game community is the attitude towards though who don't want to align themselves with a group or don't have the time to deal with grouping up.

They are going to need to change it early on because there won't be enough people to make it fun because the PUG folks will just not play because it will be absolutely no fun for them. Can't keep a F2P going when you split you community and waste so much time on CW for such a small subset of players.

Just wait...

Can i get a little clarification on what happens to those of us who aren't in a unit. I have joined a 'unit' but time zones and players never seem to match up. I do occasionally drop in groups with 'friends' but that's random at best. So i'm really a solo queue kinda person i'm my own boss a Mercenary I'm a bloody good pilot i don't need lancemates (lol just kidding), my awesome can bring down more than half an enemy team (actually true insert scrappy doo here) etc etc ;) .

What on earth am i going to do in CW? I don't pledge allegiance to anyone this a game to me first and story based one secondly. Will this mean i'm stuck in the solo queue forever?

I have already stopped spending money on MC because i'm anticipated an almighty **** up with CW and i'm preparing myself to possibly bin the game that i have enjoyed for a few years (mostly) but hopefully not. Cynical? definitely. Worried? Yep. Excited? No. Haven't a clue what's going on because PGI are so bloomin cryptic? yep

LOL. I wondered when the loud cry of the self justified would creep its way in. "So unfair, solo PUG for life!".
I did not post here to discuss with you how much solo players are needed or not. I did not post here for you to jump on the opportunity to start some silly flame war. Grow up.

IMMERSION. Read a few rule books and some Battletech novels then come back and tell me how many solo Mechwarriors appeared. Again, IMMERSION into the BT universe. I am talking about a certain feel of "authenticity" to the experience.

i have an idea to address the concerns on the short contract lengths

what if each time you swap contract you cannot select the same as your previous two contracts
so play Steiner for 7 days, swap to clan wolf for 7 days but if you want to go back to Steiner then you need to select 14 or 28

with this in effect rotating factions with nefarious intentions will be greatly impacted/reduced and at the same time will encourage people to find more attraction in the longer contracts

i feel that 7 days is just too short of a time
it really does not display any conviction at all

Grouping In CW

To re-emphasis what has been mentioned before. Community Warfare is primarily directed to role-playing and unit gameplay. It is because of this that groups in CW (Unit Groups) will consist of only players within the same unit. A team can have players from multiple units but groups themselves will only consist of players who are in the same group/faction.

this is so bad, and we will probably see a big dying off many smaller units.

Prior to dropping into a match, make sure you select which 'Mech you want to drop into battle with on the first pass. If you're 'Mech gets destroyed, you will see the standard death screen like you currently do in public matches. On this screen is a Drop Ship selection button which will bring up the interface to allow you to choose your next 'Mech to pilot. On this screen you also see how much time is remaining before the next wave of Drop Ships head into the battlefield. I don't want to spoil what happens during this time so you'll have to wait and see. It's pretty cool!

None, because you only earn loyalty points in CW matches. We gain bonus LP's with our danglythingies, but that only applies when our loyalty point gains are non-zero. As such, they have been working all along (giving us our bonus percentage) but it's been applied to zero because nobody is earning LP's at all yet.

Don't know if this has been answered or not sorry if it has.

Can a twelve man each bring 4 light mechs if it fits into the 140 minimum weight requirement? An Example would be all twelve players bringing 4 Firestarters.

At this time, there are no restrictions on chassis choices per player, nor was there any mention of it being limited across a team (correct me if I am wrong). So yes, in theory you could have a team that brings light mechs all the time.

I wouldn't recommend it in most cases, unless your entire 12 man is skilled at light meching by knowing how to engage/disengage, zig-zag to avoid sniper fire and mix long and short range to deal with turrets (when attacking).

It would be interesting to use this loadout to try ambushes and hit and runs as a group, but chances are good that you will be whittled down bit by bit.
