People who bring only stormcrows and Timberwolves are boring though. They will be the people who can't win without them and aren't playing the game to have fun but playing just to win on a cheap trick. They will sacrifice variety in play, which is a lot of the appeal in MW, just to win. In any case, I'm not scared of the srm builds that will be present because imo, the name of the game will be speed and accuracy and srms are neither of those unless you're running a quirked build and really good at leading shots. It's not often I get stripped by srms.

Different people have fun in different ways. Never make the mistake of assuming the other guy isn't having fun.

I'd be perfectly happy playing four of the same variant in CW, for the same reasons I gravitate towards one weapon in Battlefield games. Does that mean I have less fun than someone else? Does the kid that loves chocolate enjoy his ice cream any less than the kid that thinks vanilla is the best thing ever?

No, the issue is that bringing any deck with more than 1 TBR, or anything heavier, requires the use of a bad robot (Nova, Ice Ferret, Adder, Kitfox, Mist Lynx - the KFX is the pick of the bunch, which is saying something considering its a 107kph light....)
Unless these mechs get quirked most clan players are going to turn their nose up at them since most people with brains don't like to intentionally handicap themselves.

I think a 180 drop weight would be fine and the complaining will come from a tiny minority of players actually.

240 caters to the assault crowd. A more medium weight and even a light oriented drop weight that caters to none assault crowd would be fine for many players I bet and the assault/heavy crowd staying out of the fights probly wont bother anyone.

Also I dont think the queue works like you are suggesting above in the Succession Wars.

No, 240 tons caters to the medium jocks since they can bring 4 of their favorite mechs. assault players can bring at most 2, with 2 lights they are most likely very un-used to playing. 180 tons is a giant 2 fingers to everyone who isnt a light specialist, go away.

Thankfully Medium is more or less the weight class I enjoy the most, used to be Assaults but then 12v12 happened.

I don't think the diveristy will increase a lot, but it will change form the usual games, at leats on the IS side, on clannerssside, still all about TBR, HBR; MDD and SCR.

loadouts may change a bit, since you now probably need a wider variety of guns on the hopefully bigger map allowing more tactics. Yet some laserbuilds like the TBR 4cerml + 2 CLPL will still stay the same.
gauss wll probably see increase since they wokr fine from "here to there", unlike AC 20's which only work "here".

the beginning will be a lot fun, poeple don't know the mehcs, have not the optimised builds and dropdecks, good bunch of chaos and fun. Later a lot routine and meta will be established and things get quite repetitive.

I totally wish the 240t limit didnt have to unclude 4 mechs. I literally cant make a 240t 4 mech drop deck.

I can't make a 240 ton IS dropdeck either, since i mostly own IS assaults.. was planning to go clan but this 2nd wave of quirks shows me the winning side, so i might be needing to drop some cash to get my IS mechs going.. King crab, 2x Dragon 1N and a lolcust? (with no intention of dying enough to use the locust ever)

  • Ammo biased mech design - CW is a protracted engagement. It will require some consideration of ammo dependent builds... That Dakka mech and that Lurm-boat will become battlefield liabilities if players don't balance their builds by including some energy weapons.

How so?
If your mech brings enough ammo to fight through a 15min game and get 5-6 kills now, 4 of them will have enough ammo to fight through a CW match.
If you shot all your ammo and didn't take a contributing part in killing a few mechs, you did something wrong in first place.
Either you die before you are out of ammo, then ammo doesn't matter. Or you survive until you are out of ammo, then you should have dealt enough meaningfull damage to justify respawning. Sure, bringing 1-2 backup weapons to go down guns blazing will help, but i don't see builds changing alot.

i don't think there will be much diversity on the IS side of things either.

More chassis to choose from but I suspect you'll still only see about 8 of them.

the only diversity if to hope to get people out of their comfort zone and try out those jenners or firestarters and maybe you'll like them.

I dunno... I'm not sold that the present meta will support very well in CW.

So many of these meta vetted configurations are designed to insta-jib and are not designed for protracted engagements...

There's an awful lot of speculation over how to abuse the terms of engagement... That said, as far as i can see, most are built on the premise they are running the present meta stable.

It'll be very interesting to see how this plays out. ;)

A lot of what you say should hold some water....ammo will be a concern. However you can only take so many hits. How often do you run out of ammo before you are shot full of holes like swiss cheese. Its not going to mater if you brought some backup medium lasers if the first time someone gets a good look at you, you fall over dead.

I'm sure the 'meta' will shift. But a lot of that depends on the maps. Those of us that have not been passed thru the velvet ropes into testing are just going to have to wait to form an opinion.

Because I dont play this game enough to get Cbills to buy any other mechs. I Alacarted the Warhawk and stripped my AH and Atlas S of all its gear. So I only have 3 Warhawks and a Stormcrow....

Plus, well, I like Assault mechs best. Some of the heavies are cool. I wanna eventually have a Hellbringer and a Vulture stuffing my Mechbay.

As I see it the only Clan mech to date that presents any CW balance issues is the Timby... It's got the speed, firepower and mobility to kind'a jack-of-all.

Yes, the Crow has some merit but in terms of battlefield impact the Timby clearly overshadows the Crow IMHO.

A point folks keep forgetting is 240 is the baseline tonnage... some drops may be more and some may be less. The ones that are "less" are the drops that will really separate the good players from those propped by their high-meta mechs....

Add to that the possibility of time constraints and the Assault front-loaded decks sure look less and less appealing...

IMHO... A smart CW player will begin planning more balanced decks and configurations.

Lastly... while this is pure speculation, I also believe players will also have to consider what mech drops when and exactly how they plan to contribute.

Twelve Crabs and twelve Dires waddling toward a secured gate or 12 Locusts guarding the cannon does not sound like intelligent goal planning... :P

any Clan drop at and above 250t will be

TBR
TBR
TBR
lynx

god prevent this becase skilled TBR pilots in 12 man groups will probably never have to use the lynx in that loadout.

All the more reason I hope play metrics demonstrate the wide open nature of deck configurations will lead to this kind of "gaming" and PGI institutes some form of chassis cap...

While I realize this severely infringes on both personal choice and the potential for PGI to sell more mechs... IMHO it's necessary to maintain the intended purity and purpose of having tonnage capped decks.

Except if you are on the attacking team you need to complete the objectives of destroy defenses and capturing the base to win. Killing all the defending mechs will result in a loss for the attacking team.

Citation please. I have not seen this said anywhere.

What if the first one doesn't die?

I really hope that the Devs put some sort of bonus in place for each Mech you have left at the end of battle. The game should let people walk their Mech back to the dropship to switch into their next Mech, if they are out of ammo or too heavily damaged and worried about dying... Having people eject, or face-hug a DWF just so they can respawn in the Dropship would be incredibly lame.

True enough, which is a good reason for them to introduce a rule limiting players to only one example of each chassis per drop deck.

So let me get this straight. Instead of playing what you like or playing to have fun you are jumping ship to the IS just because you think they will win easily?
