I really love MWO as I have always loved the series. I am excited to see CW realized, but have not yet been able to experience it. I have tried attacking and defending missions in my free time for the past few days and have been unable to enter a match past the Preparing to Drop screen. Over 20 attempts on 3 accounts (Brother, Son, Self) all of which hit over 30 minutes. I am currently in Q for an attack on Skandia. I guess my question is...who has this type of time? Its Sunday evening and I have a couple of hours to kill...I dont have a group of 12...so can we not participate in CW? I guess I just dont get it...it just cant be right...who would design a system that had a "Q" of an hour? Oh well....I will still play skirmish I guess, but we got 3 depressed Mech pilots in the house now:(

Ya know after some introspection and pontification I have begun to wonder what sort of God would allow this matchmaking system to exist. I mean you question things like the holocaust and you think my heck...how did that 1 man convince those people to do something so horrible...then you see this match making system and all you can think about is some ******* got others to go along with it.

Well, guess this challenge isn't possible for a solo player. Thanks for forgetting about us lone wolves, missing out on the experience because you can't make a proper match making system yet again.

Instead of simplifying this and removing group size limitations, or even creating a specific "Lone Wolf" search option for Solo Players, you're still using your backwards group size system. That system doesn't even work in balancing out teams in normal match making, where 2 man groups are pitted again full 12 man teams more than half of the time.

Maybe you should look at some of your competition and see how they're running their matchmaking; you know, the kinds that use a ranking system to pit people of similar skill against one another, or at least pit people of similar geographic location together so you're not playing against triple digit ping.

Make specific playlists for large groups, small groups and solo players, please. Maybe invest a bit more in network architecture too so people who are stationed over seas like myself can enjoy more of what this game has to offer.

Russ's notes about Faction Chat and grouping with people who are not in your unit is really great news. Community Warfare needs to be about community and community is more than just big organizations, it's also inclusive of individuals.

Taking note of the overall direction of this thread and the apparent direction of CW, I sincerely hope that CW does not become an "Elites Only" club. There are plenty of people out there (as shown by this thread) who either run solo or have small RL-friend-based units that want to play in CW. I am one of those solo people.

Not everyone has the time to join a unit and play competitively. That entails some level of commitment the casual player just can't do. We need more in-game communication (beyond even Faction Chat). We need some tools to group up with people we are familiar with despite what unit they are in.

Perhaps this is one of the things that Russ was talking about, but it wasn't made clear what method might be implemented.

If the MM continues to operate as normal, we need tools to put together players before entering the queue. Something like an LFM (looking for more) system like many MMORPGs do for Quests. Then, we can present that group to the MM and it could put us in the match.

An LFM system may not get used by units too much (especially the bigger ones), but solos and smaller casual, "for fun" units would undoubtedly take advantage.

Let's make "Community" the active word in Community Warfare!

I dunno if this has been asked already (my 2nd day back after a long hiatus), but we have a quickplay option for regular maps, why can't that be applied to CW? At this point of Must Wait Online, I kinda don't care what planet I end up on, or what side, I'd just like to...yknow...try it out.

I've played BattleTech since 1987 and every video game, including Crescent Hawks and Mechforce on my Amiga 500, back in the day. Based on early talk of this game I was expecting something more like a traditional MMOrpg with an open world. Imagining WoW with Mechs, now that would be amazing. Getting something more FPS like NetMech/MW: Mercs has been more then acceptable though.

I generally play as a lone wolf as it is really limited as to when I have time to play and at weird times to boot. Mainly Sunday nights till Tuesday mornings, between 9pm and 9am est. Getting into a CW queue as a solo player seems nearly impossible at this point.

I really thought the queue would be more like the standard play. Id love to be able to collect those faction achievement rewards, as they are really nice but it doesn't look like its going to happen any time soon.

I don't care which system is picked as long as it makes it easier for us lone wolves to be able to enjoy the new aspect of the game.

My two cents.

The queues suck, 30 min or more sometimes.
I don't have the ability to run with groups all the time with two wee ones so I solo most of the time, this leads to a solo drop Pug attacking a 12 man group with comms, this equals, "kill target alpha, dead, kill target bravo, dead, kill target charlie, dead" (I am sure you get the idea. solo queue gets smashed running against that.

I fully agree with all of those solo players who wish to play CW but can't because who has the time to wait for 30 minutes plus to play one game-and then find out there is no opponent? Also, the one time I've played (attacker) with an opponent (I was a 'rare' solo matched with a 11 group), the 'strategy' was "ignore the other mechs, just rush and shoot the gun". We were down 21-3 or something like that-but we 'won' because wow invasion mode is stupid. My question-if the matchmaker can match PUG's with solo players, why can't it do the same in CW? Oh, wait, because its meant for groups. Well, I've been in two units-1st sucked and I quit because they were terrible. Quit the second because they never invited me into group play. Don't blame them-I don't know ANYONE on this game in RL. So....I'd love to play solo CW. Oh well. I won't until the wait times are fixed and you come up with something better than the lame 'invasion' mode. Maybe defenders get more tonnage-since they are already there as defenders? The only way I see attackers losing is if they are stupid.

Also, as an attacker-just have everyone drop with 100 tonners in 1st wave and roll in with 1200 tons-done.

Oh yeah, and the chat? Really? Start typing during count down and have to be fast or start over. Can't use the default y or u key after you die, have to click the right tab to talk to the right people. Unit thingy blinks every time someone joins or leaves chat so you start to ignore it since nobody is talking. Why is nobody talking? Because you cant talk unless you are in unit chat. Try to do anything else or drop into any match and you cant talk to your unit. Unit chat always on your screen is a MUST to build better unit unity.

@Tarmok II
I don't think you need to worry about this.
All the work you do in your time zone is probably undoing all of someone else's work from another time zone.
And the will be cross overs where people in the same faction happen to protect what either side might have been doing so it will work out.

@Callinicus
At the moment it is a little tricky to get a match, but you can expect this to be worked on and change.
What you are doing is correct.
Personally as a PUG drop, it seems that you will either get into a match quickly (within say 2 minutes) or not. I tend to jump out and try a different planet after 2 minutes.
It did seem like I got better results targeting planets my faction was involved with, but that may have been coincidence.
Pretty awesome once you get in.
The lead up with the drop ship adds some atmosphere and the battles feel quite epic and hard fought.
It is very early on though so just enjoy what is there (in time for the Holidays) and lets see where they take it.

You are not suppose to be solo-ing this, sorry but CW really is targeted at groups not individuals.

Then why is this feature even offered to players who aren't in a team?

Evey mill needs its grist. Lone wolves who think they're all that awesome and a bag of chips serve that purpose. Think of yourself as faction 'militia'. Not trained enough or prepared for organized combat despite your individual skills. Never respected by the real military or held as equals. Heck some barely are nothing more than the game's version of Quantrell's raiders. Brigands and highway bandits. Revel in your place and see if you can. Prove yourself to be that much more... but that's gonna be like winning the lottery.

That's all fine.... but some of us Lone Wolves do not think we are awesome or even care about what the pre-made or PUG community think. Some of us have been fighting, hoping and praying just as much for a Clan Invasion/Community Warfare game mode where we move past arena skirmishes and on to something bigger.

I have already seen some good faction spirit in the rag-tag "highway bandit" groups I've been dropped with. Games are starting to feel like they have purpose and random groups really feel ownership over victories racked up for Clan Wolf.

This is what the game needed. It shouldn't be an elitist thing focussed at people who have the time to maintain virtual guilds. Let everyone enjoy this. With private matchmaker now in, competitive 12 mans should really at this point have e-sports tournaments offered exclusively to them. Have a league run over a season or something. This is a generally accepted model.

CW should be for everyone, since it is the game mode that MWO always should have been.

quit complaining got 20 points by Saturday night was easy once i realised
u need to play during prime times (more peeps more chance of drops o-0)
follow prompts in lower right corner leading u to hot spots around map

finding a comm"s Google your faction for Team Speak 3 or Vent lots of channels all free and open to all (u may have to wait in a guest channel to be picked up, but as long as u are not an ass invites follow)
most factions will tell u there channel in game if u ask in chat before drop

Please understand this is the Mega Game(or end game) made for groups, if u want to drop solo why not ask for a free for all Mode/map.
In a 12v12 game no matter what game type, team work/ target calling (focusfiring) will all ways win.

The attack / defense times should be reduced to 6 hours. like this having all world wide timezone's able to play and keep what they obtained would end the hard work for nothing themed play style in CW for Asian / EU / US timezone gaps a the moment. its just silly to have a world on attack wins 11 and having the enemy counter attacking. keeping them at bay but losing it due to you got to go sleep as tomorrow you got a life to return to.

OK so i have now managed a few games of this new mode and have to say I have enjoyed it ONCE i got in. BUT after reading the how the match maker rules applied I was appalled, auto wins if you can't get enough people to other side of a fight, there is now way you should be rewarding people when they have not even taken the "Field of battle". I played one match with my Unit and we won very well but was quiet annoyed that simply because the other guys we were playing with had to work(a consideration that allows us to buy things both in game and out) the other team was awarded a victory, I have been trying to push the game with my friends, but how can i do that when i have to say to them yeah CW is great if you are 12 man an up hill battle if you are not.

When you launch things most people will give it a look and you get ONE chance to get it right this should not have been launched without a way to coordinate groups among your clan or IS faction. I can also think of no better way to sink this than auto Victories and long wait times I am generally sleeping during the MOST peak of times but i am happy to wait 5 to 15 mins for a GOOD half hour game, NOT 28 mins to get nothing and then find out the guys we were playing against got a win for sitting on their hand (I am pretty sure this must be a point of annoyance for them too most people are here to play after all).

I LOVE the Mechwarrior Universe and have done since i played the old games PLEASE do it some justice. I have heard more than one or two people quitting because of poorly planned implementation and pushing to get things OUT when they are not polished or finished we have a test server for a reason i assume and i am happy to play on it to help get these things to a point where they are ready to launch.

kinda dumb that, literally there could be dozens if not hundreds of single players sitting around waiting and have them completely, consistently and constantly ignored while MM "puzzles" on how to best serve those fortunate enough to have 11 guys to hang out with. I tried several times to join before I read this post and never saw a single person enter the match lobby. It' a great feeling to have looked forward to something for so long, that has been promised for so long, only to get there and be locked out of it.

rush and shoot the cannon is the Only way to play attacker to have a chance to win a match.
defenders with the turrets and the dropships shooting and respawn right at the objective is not beatable if you try to kill them all .
this setup sadly reduces the variation in a drastic way and will make invasion mode getting boring VERRY quik.
invading a planet need such objective based battles but reducing the war to just this is .... stupid?

as for the small group - soloplayers waittimes... its not just you it hits the units eaqualy.
bigger units get a 12 man group together and are fine , but who ever dont fit into that group is in the same boat and is idling in the waiting list just as you are.
the overwhelmingly simple solution to this GAMEBREAKING problem is to allow 12 man groupes beeing formed by members of multiple units AND soloplayers AS LONG AS THEY BELONG TO THE SAME FACTION.

in preparation for this the house kurita units even installed a new teamspeak server to collect the small groupes and soloplayers and form them into 12man strike units, its just the game dont allow to do so. we are quiet successfull in using the workaround that syncdropping is.
a part group of a unit , lets say 6 man , want to attack paris, a planet the davions stole from us last friday, they occupy a dropchannel and than everyone in the lobby enters that channel untill they are 12.
the groupleader does state the target and mode and do a countdown, than everyone hits the attack/defendbutton of the same planet. the matchmaker drops them into the same battle with 75% successrate.
added advantage: everyone in the battle can comunicate and coordinate.
also the experienced unit groups are available to answer questions in the remaining waitingtimes. doing 25 cw matches on sat and sun i experienced waiting times between 50 seconds and 11 minutes using this system.
you dont need to talk , you dont need to join a unit! all you do is accepting that this is a team game and that you have to join up with a group on voice coms temporary for just that single drop: profit fun small waitingtimes are the ......... sideeffects.
you might find ppl you like , forming friendships.
you do this on YOUR time IF YOU want to, when ever YOU decide to do so.
