Return of the Star League
Over 70 delegates from Six Houses and affiliated Mercenary organizations gathered in the Free World's League, on an unassuming planet called Wazan, to discuss something so earth-shaking it had only been mentioned in only history books for almost 300 years.
The Star League.
Truly, few coming in believed it was possible. Could these factions, many who have been warring for generations, really be brought together? Could the hate and bloodshed be left on the field, and out of the conference room? Surely it wouldn't be more than a few minutes before the Davion's and Kuritan's were at each other's throats, and the Rasalhaguian's and Steiner's would quickly follow suit. The whole thing would be a sham, and would fall apart just as quickly as it was brought together; just as quickly they'd return to each other's throats.
So the conference began, doomed to fail from the start. It continued for more than two hours of heavy negotiations; those too were doomed to fail.
And yet.
Despite everything. Despite all the odds against it. Despite all the animosity, the egos, the roundabouts and excuses given by various parties - in spite of everything against it, the foundation has been formed. The gears are moving.
The Second Star League is at hand.
It started with a promise from the Free World's League. No one faction would rule over others. No one person would hold all the power, all the glory, to Lord over the others. No, this League would be a parliament - a rule by the representatives of each faction, with no one faction hoarding any more power than another. "But what about the Mercs?" some asked. It was decided to include the dedicated Mercenaries in their own Faction - a self-policing Faction that would keep track of all the mercenaries of the Inner Sphere, and ensure that any mercs found to be clanner spies would be cast out from the rest. Thus, the birth of the MRBC - the Mercenary Review and Bonding Commission was born (though the name is still out on that title).
What about the inter-fighting between the Houses? Surely with such bitter feelings, units and individuals would go rogue - or simply cease fighting on the Clan fronts due to battle fatigue. Surely the Star League was doomed to fall here. Miraculously however, The Star League came to an agreement - the League was formed in response to the Clans, and for no other reason. It would not babysit inter-house warfare. Still, to keep peace between units - and everyone focused on the Clans - the Star League requested a "soft ceasefire" between all houses. Such a concept was foreign, many relented. "Impossible!" said some. "Impractical!" said others. "Inconceivable!" said a few, though they may not know what the word means. Yet Marik surprised all in saying they would work with the Davions, a very heated front. Liao responded the same, pledging to halt attacks on the Federated Suns. Even the FRR offered the hand of peace to Steiner.
"What about when we get bored, or have rogue units or....or....or....?" The Star League can be a middle-ground for all units to convene. They can ask for scrimmages with each other, react to trouble-maker units, ask for assistance through their representatives. Nothing is impossible so long as we talk.
The passing was almost unanimous.
As the meeting wound down, the League discussed its more tactical and administrative proceedings, much of which is highly classified. However, one message was clear: The Star League would not let the FRR go quietly into the night. They would defend the FRR.
The most impressive part? With the knowledge of the Wazan Conference on the horizon, the FRR's Allting Council held an emergency meeting, in anticipation of each House putting forth a Representative to chair the Parliament.
Lord
Daemonwulfe of the
Skjaldborg was elected as Representative of the Free Rasalhague Republic to the Star League. With him are
Damon Howe and '
Starwolf1991' (who preferred to go anonymously) as the Lord's Second. As parliamentary meetings are scheduled to be held in the future, each FRR unit - already recognized as part of the Allting - has already been informed that their voice in the larger organization will still count as well. The incredible amount of forethought by the FRR has many Houses scrambling to organize in the same fashion; as it seems the FRR has out-planned even the Free World's League to a small extent.
Regardless of how the building Star League organizes, or what decisions are made from here on, this moment of time - when friends and foes alike came across the table, to shake hands and put aside differences for a greater purpose - will be immortalized in the hearts and minds of not just the Free Rasalhague Republic. Not just the Federated Suns. But the entire Inner Sphere.
Clan Invaders, can you hear us? Can you see us now? If you can't, you will soon.
The Star League Defense Force swears it.
