KungsArme Holds for Another Day
--The KungsArme held off a weekend drive against the two remaining planets of the FRR in what was intended as a "death blow" by Wolf and Ghost Bear. Fighting on Shirotori and Grumium was intense and destructive as Wolf launched attacks with little ambition than to drown the KungsArme with sheer numbers.
Grumium Creations was the most hotly-contested combat area, though both sides chose to fight around the MechWorks rather than in it, sparing the factory from all but a few stray shots which did minimal damage. The KungsArme has removed most hardware and specs from the factory, but the buildings themselves still stand.
2 Worlds Remain FRR
--Grumium and Shirotori are all that's left of the Free Rasalhague Republic. Grumium is the last planet originally owned by the FRR, as Shirotori was captured over the course of the weekend from Ghost Bear, in exchange for the inevitable loss of Dehgolan.
Reinforcements Successfully Reach Rasalhague
--The first objective of
Operation: Fresh Start for the FRR has been a resounding success, with refreshed and refitted KungsArme and SLDF forces landing on Fortress Rasalhague late last night. The operation was kept completely secret from all public knowledge until early this morning, when a HPG transmission from Rasalhague read:
'Op:FS - Reinforcements arrived; 3 Regiments landed 6 hrs ago with supplies. More still incoming. Tora, Tora, Tora.' Rasalhague's defenses have proven impenetrable thus far for the Clans, and since the first time Rasalhague was encircled contingency plans have been put in place to make sure that, should the rest of the FRR fall, a rapid counter-assault would still be on the table.
Even in the face of total defeat, the FRR has never stopped planning for victory.
Around the Sphere:
Wolf Offensive meets Kuritan Counter
--Clan Wolf's drive into Kurita met little resistance at first, surprising the DCMS from the other side of the FRR. However that surprise was quickly dissolved and Wolf met with a determined counteroffensive over the weekend, forcing Wolf to play defense, which led to Steiner capturing Ganshoren. Wolf's entry into Kuritan territory gives the DCMS 3 Clan fronts to contend with, leaving an already stretched DCMS very, very thin. Meanwhile, Wolf trades offensives between Steiner and Davion, driving a wedge between the two factions and carving up the weakened border for itself.
Ghost Bear Pushed Hard
--The drive for Terra ended abruptly for Ghost Bear after the loss of one of their most prized Galaxies, the turncoat Mercs known as MercStar. Since the loss they've been solely on the defensive, fending off a resolute DCMS and a desperate KungsArme. Ghost Bear has lost planets to both and have forfeited much of their seat as the leading Clan in the race for Terra. Though still on par with the other Clans, in just a short week they're now the furthest from Terra; and between the Wolves and Jaguars, are threatened to have their corridor to Terra completely cut off.
Jade Falcon Continues Drive
--As the most successful invading Clan in terms of planets captured, Jade Falcon has always struggled with organizing their drive towards Terra. Faced with Lyran counters to the flanks and the constant divergent strikes at significant Lyran infrastructure, Jade Falcon has made much headway in whittling down the offensive capabilities of Steiner. However, this has lead to the other Clans leading the drive to Terra every step of the way, while the Falcons have been largely regulated to protecting the flank of Clan Wolf. With the Invasion nearing its final phases, Jade Falcon has sprung into action, taking many worlds in rapid succession to catch up to Clan Wolf - who just two months earlier, was completely cut off from the Inner Sphere. Jade Falcons earlier systematic dissection of the Lyran defenses have allowed them to plow through almost unimpeded, and quickly catch up to Wolf and become competitive for the first time in the drive to Terra.
Smoke Jaguars trade Worlds, make little Headway
--While not losing to Kurita like Ghost Bear, Smoke Jaguar has failed to make significant headway against the DCMS since their return to the Clan front. With Ghost Bear being pushed back a more direct route to Terra has opened up for the Jaguars, but up until this point they have failed to capitalize on it.
Kurita Encircles Terra, Fends off Clans
--Kurita has pushed Marik back to the point where they encircle Terra on three sides, all while fending off three Clan fronts determined to reach it. The support received from so many Mercenary Units fleeing the FRR has helped reinforce an otherwise depleted DCMS, allowing them to fight on 4 very hot fronts. Kurita is rapidly exhausting these reinforcements however, and it may only be a matter of time before the attrition starts to show in the face of this many enemies.
Regardless of the pressure, Kurita managed to send representatives to the latest meeting of the New Star League. While not members, Kurita was happy to provide updates from their perspective of the Clan front and offer advice to the members present. Kurita is still on "shaky" terms with many nSL members, but their appearance at all has lead to hope of better relations down the road.
Liao Quietly Continues Expansion
--In three months, Liao has reconquered all their lost territory, and shows no signs of stopping. With so little to report on the front, the only note is their absence at the Star League meetings, where collectively they have resigned the fate of the Coreward Houses to the Clans and instead concentrate on Davion, which ceased to be anything close to threatening quite some time ago.
Kuritan War goes Poorly for Marik; Not Seen at Star League
--While the New Star League continues to meet, one of its key members was surprisingly absent. Marik failed to show at the nSL, the closest representative a leader from Black Widow Company - a Merc Corp not directly associated with Marik. It could be thanks to the presence of Kuritan leaders at the meeting, or just the war with Kurita going as poorly as it has in general. Marik has been pulling resources sent to the front lines along the FRR for a few weeks now, preparing them for the invasion of Kurita only to find themselves quickly repelled and driven back. Marik has been desperately trying to turn the war around, and has since stalled much of the initial push by the DCMS.
Marik has dedicated a lot of effort into the Star League, so their absence is particularly worrisome. The FRR inparticular has benefited greatly from the assistance of Marik, and the FRR's leaders laud the effort Marik has given to stem the Clans thus far. It will be dependent on the stalwart FWL Military if Marik is to turn their circumstances around, and vault Marik back into the forefront of the repulsion of the Clans.
Davion Focuses on Liao, Slows Offensive
--With Kurita focusing on other threats, Davion has been free to fight back against Liao. While Liao still makes headway against Davion, the unstoppable onslaught has been greatly diminished in the past week. Davion has managed to exchange worlds with Liao, something that hasn't been seen since early January. The AFFS may still be in chaos, but their numbers are standing against the tide.
Steiner Takes Fight to Wolf, Cannot Hold Falcons
--With a front against two Clans, Steiner has elected to take the fight to Wolf, who have been far more interested in their Kuritan attacks than Steiner. While it has given Steiner some much-needed victories and hampered Wolf's Kuritan Corridor, it has left Steiner completely open to Jade Falcon, who have taken the opportunity to push the Lyrans at every turn. Steiner responded as best as it can with its units, but with the lack of overall organized Command, the "roving warbands" have been altogether ineffective at stopping, let alone countering the Jade Falcons. The few times Steiner
has managed to organize in a short-term offensive, Jade Falcon has faced a much larger threat.
