I've recently gotten into this with some friends. We've changed some of the rules to our own liking, specifically considering infantry and urban combat and some streamlining of equipment among other things. My main issues are with the boosters, which are quite cheap now but ***** I keep getting crap in these things, and I can't seem to find very stocked sources for single mechs and whatnot. When I do find a site listing such things they seem to only have low end mechs, which makes a certain amount of sense, but on the rare occasion they have a mech that is recognizable the things are like $20-60, which is ridiculous.

Anyway, I don't suppose anyone knows of any secret spots to acquire things for the game?

I've picked up a few deals on Ebay. Jade Falcon units seem to fetch a premium, the action pack with 6 Mechs tends to go for around $50 on Ebay but I managed to pick it up for $21. When it comes to the more expensive unique Heavy and Assault Mechs your best bet is to pick them up in a lot, they tend to go for less that way compared to buying individual mechs.

I used to love playing this game in its day, but with most places it dried up. I have been trying for years to get my friends to play ctb but it's not happening, the only gaming groups in my area play games workshop games only. But I have recently convinced my friend to play mechwarrior online which then got them interested in mechwarrior clix. We just ordered 48 boosters, I have a large force already. I'm hoping this will get them interested in battletech :)

My dad was actually the local BM (lol!) that was invited to Nationals at least one year (he didn't go, sad face). My brother and I played almost every single week at the local comic/gaming shop. Usually had 5-10 players weekly, more when the 'mech prizes were really good.

I always played Bannson's, since I got into the game during Wolf Strike and my first pull was a Hammerfall Atlas with One-Eyed Jack Farrell. Wolf Strike was just assault-crazy so everyone was fielding those. My need to be different led me to fielding a lance consisting of two Vixens and two Solitaires. With proper use of double-distance Evade running and overlapping fields of fire I could shred almost any 'mech composition. R.I.S.C. Advanced Pulse Module (triple Pulse) was ludicrously inexpensive at 10 points and amazingly efficient. No heat or targeting penalty on the third shot and it only blew on a roll of 1. The Bannson's Solitaires had two energy systems and one of them was 4 clicks of damage up to 10 inches. Since my entire composition had Evade I could more than clear an entire play area. The Vixens had Agility (which reduces impact damage from charges or close combat to 1 click) so I'd base and lock up my target then run everything into the 'mech's rear arc. 12 damage from each Solitaire would salvage or kill just about anything, plus give them an additional click of heat. All the guys that we played with started hating my light lance composition and started moving their 'mechs down the battlefield back-to-back. xD Everyone tried to "house rule" my triple Pulse and ban it so I had to take it to the Battlemaster forums to get official word that it was perfectly legal. "Surgical precision" was thrown around a bit to describe my light movement patterns. Done properly, you could prevent LoS to all but one of your 'mechs, even on an empty play area to keep your units fresh.

Sooooo many good memories from that game.

Except the tank drops and all-VTOL armies. **** that ****.

The store we played at sold it to me after the game dried up in that area. They didn't need it so bought it off them.

Nice to see this thread. I still keep a very large collection of pieces, including many LEs, all packed in white boxes along with my boxes of Gundams. I played once in a while, but I collected more than I played, and I eagerly read the books as well. Thanks for bringing back the memories, and the thought there is still some value in those boxes.

I was a Battlemaster down here in Warner Robins, Ga at Heroes and Villians comic shop for a good long time. Still have a good collection. I always played Banson's Raiders with Merc unit help. I still have a good force of Kurita, Wolf, Stiener, and Davion. Thats about it though...sold my dropship off.

A few of my friends just recently got me into the sets and I've started up my own small collection. It's usually just the three or four of us that play with some house rules, but I've taken a liking to the game in the few short games we've played. There is a local game shop that sells boosters cheap and it has been a great way to spend some time with friends. I use the Kurita units when I can, but it is always great fun. Cheers!

I grew up playing the MW video games and reading the books. Now that I am older and have money I picked up AOD finally and am building a Clan Wolf / SW / WH collection. I am overjoyed to see it is not completly dead!

My friends and I played it amongst ourselves. We live in a pretty rural part of Virginia and the game came around before we even could drive, so we were never able to go to tournaments or anything. We modified the official rules a bit to make more sense for us and even made some of our own house rules to add some extra flavor.

We started out just two of us, eventually we got two other guys pretty heavily into it, a couple other guys bought a few boosters to play with but didn't really stick with it for long, by the end of it there was just three of us left playing regularly, including the guy I played with from the beginning. I collected the most of the whole group, spent at least a couple thousand over the game's lifetime, including purchasing the dropship during my first ever visit to Origins. At the moment my two friends who stuck with it the longest have given me their collections to hold onto. Since they never play with anyone else they figured it would be easier to just keep everything in one spot.

My factions in the beginning were Steel Wolves, Spirit Cats, and Bannson's Raiders, and eventually Jade Falcon and Wolf Hunters; my first friend took the Dragon's Fury, Swordsworn, and Highlanders; third friend took Highlanders from friend1 when he started, and later also took Republic of the Sphere and House Liao, and eventually the Rasalhague Dominion; fourth friend took Stormhammers. Mercenaries of course were fair game for everyone. Any of the factions that absorbed one of the smaller ones went to the person who owned the faction, of course. (Clan Wolf and Nova Cat for me, House Kurita and Davion for Friend1, House Steiner for Friend4)

Hopefully one day my friends and I will get to get back together and have a massive battle. We always talked about how cool it would be to have an interplanetary campaign of some sort, fighting over multiple planets. We made some pretty in depth rules about it, but sadly I think those rules have been lost to time...

Started playing this recently. Started with the little AoD kit (12$ delivered, amazon) with just me and my daughter. Now have 2 other friends playing little games. Talk of playing that + converting some minis to hexbase. Quickstrike has come up over drinks.

96 booster packs have been ordered.

...there may be something wrong with us.

Ends up being about 2.10$/box delivered. Wish my Warhammer stuff was that cheap...
