I know MWO doesn't follow lore to the letter but this is a big question that i think will solve a lot of the current CW issues.

I'm currently reading The Blood of Kerensky trilogy...........Again :)

By the time the second invasion hit (The real Invasion not the first wave that was really just a scouting mission to test IS defenses) the IS already had a small amount of Clan mechs at their disposal, The Wolf Dragoons were manufacturing clan mechs including Kit Foxes and Dire Wolves as well as i believe summoners for almost 10 years in preparation for the invasion. Hohiro Kurita won 4 clan mechs as part of the bidding process when they repelled the invasion on one planet (the name escapes me, possibly turtle bay) and the combine instantly began reverse engineering those mechs. Also the dragoons gave plans to the FRR to start building field conversion kits to upgrade IS mechs with Clan tech, mainly weapons and heat sinks i believe.

So i know timeline wise the second wave hit almost 3 years after the first, but I could see in a years time the IS being able to use Clan mechs as part of CW. Even if its only one lance. You could ready 2 drop decks every match, one IS and one Clan and then the launcher could randomly pick 4 people per match to pilot Clan mechs in service to the IS.

Now before you purist's jump all over this post read the books, its right there in plain black and white. Victor Ian Davion and Hohiro Kurita both piloted Dire Wolves in defense if the Inner Sphere.

And yes if it wasn't for my units alignment i'd be fighting on the side of the clans, i just love my clan mechs, although i am having fun revisiting some of my older mechs that haven't seen any action in a while.

At some point they could just allow one clan mech in a set of four.

For me, a dozen or so Clan mechs in the IS doesn't mean that everyone had access to Clan mechs.

I could see mixed tech being introduced down the line. They've already tested a salvage system with the Halloween event. IS vs Clan matches could have a small chance at salvaging clan tech if they take or defend a planet from the clans.

A whole Clan mech should be a reward for something big. Like if they ever have a Battle of Tukayyid event the IS participants have the chance at salvaging a Clan mech.

Yes the leaders of trillions of people had the opportunity to win Dire Wolves. The average person in a regular army probably never got to use Clan tech. Maybe some elite front line units and mecenaries but Lt. Joe Schmo never sees it.

They have said that eventually IS will be able to use at least some Clan tech on IS mechs. Last word on IS using pure Clan mechs was "No plans for this."

Full Clan 'mechs in use by IS units were rare.
More common than that (oddly) were salvaged Clan 'Mechs using Inner Sphere technology as repairs with some Clan weapons mixed in.

Much, much more common than that were some Inner Sphere 'Mechs getting partially re-fit with Clan upgrades, either salvaged or from factory.

As I see it, rolling for a chance to salvage a Clan component for use on an Inner Sphere 'Mech would be neat.

Well, actually salvage would be a nice idea, like a 1/10 chance to get a clan element that can be mounted in an IS mech for each kill AND the game is won.

CW would be the only way to obtain them.

And if they only made those systems usable on IS 'mechs while playing CW drops. Not the regular queue games. But, they would also have to bring back Repair and Re-arm so you could have a chance to lose the salvage if the weapon was destroyed.

Or, just go many steps further and make the whole of CW one big salvage fest where you started out small and worked your way up with salvage, still with the Repair and Re-arm function. Hmmm, that sounds like a lot of fun actually. CW launches, you get a random Light or crap medium with stock loadout, your C-bills gains and pool are separate from the one used in standard matches. Eventually people would be piloting Heavies and Assaults with a Frankenstein chasis.............

IS in a clan mech? never! To balance it out, I think IS should get an extra lance when attacking. 4 lance vs 3 clan lance defenders. That's just to balance out the game with defensive bonuses, Attackers would need either greater numbers, or some sort of siege engine that needs to be protected as it reaches the gate.

As of right now, I'm switching my loyalties once my contract is up to clan.

I also think that CW should be somehow separated from normal games but people would complain about the purchased mechs. R&R would be great.

I believe that PGI should wait for 4 to 6 months then make it so any IS unit that is Defending against the Clans can bring 1 or 2 Clan mechs...(don't care which)...but only if they are defending against the Clans..If you are dropping against IS you have to bring IS....This would do a good job of representing the limited amount of Clan tech available to the IS but still allow people to use their Clan mechs....This would increase the number of units that felt it was worth it to go fight the Clans....The other thing it would do is represent the build up of forces/support and ability of the IS units to fight the Clan mechs.
No it would not be quite accurate according to lore but then most of what we are currently doing isn't either..I do believe this provide the best balance between keeping lore hounds..(Like me)..happy and keeping the majority of players happy by allowing them to play the Clan tech they paid for/own...

Not to mention if a IS Surat was dumb enough to be seen Piloting a Clan War Machine on the Battlefield he became priority target number one and probably by a Clan Galaxy Commander in a Executioner .

I don't see why IS pilots should be allowed to pilot Clan mechs.
Clearly the Clans would never allow piloting IS mechs, so if Clans can't pilot IS mechs, why should IS get to pilot Clan mechs?

I disagree......PGI should sell seperate clan mechs , Call them War Trophies! They should be lesser represented models. Weaker armor due to shoddy IS tech incompatibility as well as have some IS tech mixed in.

Like a Timber wolf Prime but only has 1 lrm 20 clan 1 lrm 10 IS 2 Clan Er Med Lasers 1 IS med pulse 1 Clan ERLL.

mixed tech Uncustomizable due to lack of know how at this time.

Because the IS probably wants to mirror the Clan meta dropdeck of 3x SCR + 1x TBR.

Personally I would like to have to collect salvage for weeks/months in order to restore a single captured chassis. Salvage should be the only way to obtain clan parts.

Why "oddly"? Captured Clan mechs would obviously damaged significantly, and it's not like they had access to repair facilities and components. So makes sense they would repair them.

BTW, in lore 'mechs were extremely rare. Almost all battles were fought with conventional weapons, ie tanks etc. To put it in perspective, Locusts were the most common mech and numbered in the thousands. Not 10's of thousands, but thousands.

Perhaps lower percentage and for assists as well. Otherwise people would ignore objectives in order to get kills.

They've said this won't happen for several reasons. One they've already worked to balance them as is. Second, it would screw with the MM.

Actually they did. Mechs they took with them as well as ones they produced. Almost always upgraded, relegated to solahma units ("older" retired pilots, ie those in their 30"s if I remember correctly).

You mean 2c mechs different designs. With Clan weaponry. Really bad Old Fart Clanners may get stuck in a mackie or old obselete design.

If a Pilot could not hold his own any longer in a Circle of Equals why waste a Descisive assets like a Omnimech on his last efforts to die honerably in combat.

From a balance perspective I'm very much against this idea, mainly due to the fact that IS mechs can swap endo, Ferro, and engines. The idea of IS mechs running FLD ballistics, with Clan energy makes even my Timbers shiver in fear. That's not even factoring in all the wonderful quirks the IS are getting right now.

I'm not saying this should never happen, but at this point it would cause more harm than good. Maybe when we start seeing IIc varients on the field I would be little more comfortable with this.

Even if its just Clan XL's that would be a major upgrade, the weight savings of an XL but able to lose side torso's I'd take that over Clan weapons.
