Having played MechWarrior 2 and MechWarrior 2 Mercenaries, shouldn't the Dropships we have in Community Warfare be the same ones from those games? Because the ones in CW are more Airship then Dropship.

I think those are "heavy" dropships and we have to use lighter ones because of the cannon.

There were Aerodyne dropships that looked mostly like the ones PGI made (should have wing though) and the Egg / Bulb / Glode shaped kind like the Seeker, Union and Fortress

Leopard Class Dropship

Broadsword Class Dropship

you clearly weren't paying much attention in Mechwarrior 2. At least half the missions had you drop out of a broadsword in 31st century combat. The other half would be evenly divided between Union C dropships and Overlord C dropships. Someone hasn't been doing his homework

The Leopard is being used because it's lance/star level. A Union would be pretty overpowered and overkill since it has the capacity to drop the whole team at once and enough firepower to drop an Atlas instantly.

Well, I played these games over twenty years ago.
I clearly remember the Heavy Armored Union dropships, not so much the other ones.

There are many types of dropships. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/DropShip the one pictured above is most likely a Union class http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Union or a Hrothgar class http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Hrothgar The one in MWO are Leopard class. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Leopard Then there is one of the largest and most fearsome dropship the Overlord class http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Overlord

Those big ones seem to fill the transportation role while drop ships like the Leopard and Broadsword seem to be designed for insertion.

But the Broadsword was in several MW2 missions.

Anyone else concerned about that dropship in the air? I don't think someone read the manual.

Holy, how's that for a weapon loadout?

6x PPCs
2x AC/20
6x AC/5
12x Medium Lasers
3x LRM-20s
6x Large Lasers

Heat Sinks 120 (single)

Yes. Wait till you see Naval Autocannons, because those are in orbit waiting to shoot down on stuff. ;)

Considering this game's heat scaling, those 120 singles probably couldn't manage the engine heat, let alone firing a tenth of those weapons.

Compared to the Clan version

3 x ER LL
6 x ER PPC
3 x LPL
12 x MPL
6 x UAC5
2 x UAC20
3 x LRM20 + Artemis

And now that I've searched a bit I think this would be terrifying in game:

The Lee drop ship apparently has these armaments

9 x Gauss Rifles
7 x ERPPCs
8 x ER Large Lasers
6 x AC/20
14 x (Artemis IV) LRM 20s
26 x Medium Lasers

Though, it appears none would have survived to this point in the timeline.

See the lance-level dropship at the bottom left of the chart? That's what the MWO dropships are supposed to be.

According to the weapons chart I found, the total amount of heat is 111. So 120 will cover that and allow for heat generated by movement. This chart is also based of MWO not the TT game.
