Well, the main Falconer variant (the FLC--8R) is a 75-ton 'Mech that would have, at a minimum, one ballistic hardpoint in the right arm, one energy hardpoint in the left arm, and two energy hardpoints in each side torso (for a total of 6 hardpoints at a minimum; inflation would likely increase this to no more than 8, IMO), plus Jump Jets (up to at least 5), and an Engine cap of 400 (XL375 stock, 375 * 1.2 = 450, cap ends at 400).

What do you make of that?

^ This

The Falconer would likely be the best IS heavy. The only way it'd not be good is if they messed up the hard points, ideally they'd also not make the arms quite so low and it'd be a beast.

It'll have two potential down sides that might keep it from being optimal. Height of the hard points, but most importantly, hit boxes.

Of course, I meant to mention hitboxes but I rushed my post haha.

The only thing I'd modify on Alex's rendition is to have the arms extend out sideways more. That way the main weaponry would be higher and the arms can shield the ST.

Indeed. Perhaps if it were done like the more slender renditions it would have decent hitboxes.

Yeah, they would need some freaky good leg armor quirks and the small movement archetype.

Hey I like your older stuff!

Shush you two it won't change how he sees it. It's artist vision. As an artist grows more skilled, the worse, older stuff looks to them. This effect is disproportionate to what the rest of us perceive. Basically, Bishop sees every little flaw which we would never notice until we looked long and hard while comparing new stuff to old. Easy to see improvement, harder to see all the little details which go into making the improvement.

On the Falconer, despite how cool it is, I have seen it described on these very forums by the meta/comp crowd as the "anti-metamech".

Why would it be the "anti-meta" mech? Alex's rendition has the arms in an ok position. It comes with a gauss, er ppc, 4 mpls, JJ & a big engine.

Falconer:

My CTF-3D from the open beta:
CTF-3D - i did run it while poptarting was not invited yet (you know those 5.5sec fuel hardly any climb jets)

It was a fun Mech...using the JJs in combat to twist or outmaneuver splash cats - or jump onto hills and use its speed to flank.
(very funny in conquest) - or to shoot a Stalker from high 6 - to see him turning and shooting the guy behind him :P

Well i tried the same with a Thor.....not funny anymore :( - it doesn't run hot - but you can't have secondary weapons and the current JJs are for my "preferred combat usage" bad

Bad ugly or cool ugly? Haha.

I'll be honest. One of the main attractions the Falconer has for me is that it could be a powerhouse of a mech in MWO. Perhaps it's arms won't be good shields but if the hitboxes are done right it could spread DMG. If the arms could be done in a way that made them moderately decent shields the Falconer could shine.

There's a few interesting 75 tonners aside from the Falconer. The Bandersnatch, Penetrator & the War Dog. I'll mention the Maelstrom & Dragon Fire because they're fairly close to the current timeline. http://www.sarna.net...ton_BattleMechs

Which one would you want? Which one do you think would be the best & why?

Well, I am aware people have different tastes than I do so if you like it, then by all means. TBH, there are not very many mechs left I am interested in, almost all of them can be found in the 3025 and 3050 TROs. Only mechs like the Bushwacker and Brigand which are in later TRO's interest me. Also, for me, it's not about the loadout or the hitboxes. It's about nostalgia and if it looks (for me) like Mechwarrior.

It has a torso which is high, broad, and long while its arms and even torso weapons have fairly low mounts. Even on Alex's version the arms reach down to the hips. Its legs are massive targets. Alex's rendition is also not good to measurement of the actual design as it is mostly silhouette with true depth hard to judge.

What do you make of that?

Well, if it's got the tonnage to use all of that, great.

Like many IS 'mechs, the decision's going to be forced pretty early in the buildout: Where do we commit the tonnage, and is it worth it (for whatever reason) to run it that way?

This makes me think of the Protector, with more energy, less missile. If the hitboxes are XL-friendly, it might help some.

Otherwise, sounds like a stooped-over ballistics-added version of either the Grasshopper +5 tons, or Black Knight +JJs. Probably would be a lot like a Cataphract for builds, I'm thinking.

Laser vom, IS Gauss vom (can we get an AC20 in there?), or even a couple UACs (still needs 10 crits, like the AC 20) with lots of ML sounds a lot like what we've already got from the Hopper, Knight and the Phract. Could be interesting with +5 tons, +JJ, +ballistic, +engine all available.

Bonuses: more options for versatility (at least for engines, JJs, ballistics.
Toss-up: shape and hitboxes
Con: IS gear is heavier and more critslot-intensive, which limits options even at 75 tons. Optional endo at least helps mitigate the tonnage issue a little (poor Summoner).

Ed: Punctuations 'n stuff

Well, since there's the Phranken pattern available for just about every other mech I'm guessing an eventual Akuma will get something along those lines, yeah. :)
