No the Archer doesn't really add anything, and has questionable hitboxes, but yes, it's iconic.

I would still vastly prefer to see the Phoenix Hawk, then the more versatile Crusader, then maybe the Archer, though a Longbow or OST series would be neat to see Alex take on.

Not all mechs need to add anything new. I mean, all the tonnage brackets are taken and the different possible mech configurations are running low. A player who doesn't own a Catapult can buy the Archer and still have a mech totally new and unique in his stable. The same for JagerMech and Rifleman; Cataphract and Marauder; etc...

PS: And yes, Bombadil pretty much spoiled the Archer.

PPS: And we know Phoenix Hawk will come. [in all of its glory]

PPPS: Is it weird that the Macross mech I want to see more next is the Wasp? I can't wait for the Iglesias' version. And it can be so tiny!

have a feeling that the Valkyrie based mechs are going to be the toughest to get past HG. Curous to see what, if anything develops.

Never said the archer had to add anything new. Simply said the lack of anything new makes me prefer to see the Crusader and Hawk first.

With regard to the ARC, I present my previous conjecture regarding the possible variants for discussion. ;)

View PostStrum Wealh, on 09 October 2015 - 04:15 PM, said:

Realistically, the Archer is unlikely to get any variant with more than the 9 hardpoints of the ARC-5S.

The basic ARC-2R has a minimum of six (6) hardpoints, and inflating it up to eight represents a 25% increase in the 'Mech's weapon capacity and giving it a greater weapon capacity than the vast majority of IS heavy 'Mechs (most of which have only 6-7 hardpoints per variant).
Additionally, most ARC variants are build in the same mold - energy CT, missile torsos, and either energy-only arms or energy/missile arms, so there is rather little variety in the base loadouts; the no-energy/all-missile ARC-5W is the notable exception to the rule.

IMO, a more realistic outlook is an 8-hardpoint ARC-2R (x2 energy hardpoints in each arm, x2 energy hardpoints in the CT, and a single missile hardpoint in each side-torso; a total of 6E/2M), an 8-hardpoint ARC-5W (a single missile hardpoint in each arm & x2 missile hardpoints in each torso section, for a total of 8M), and a ARC-5S with no hardpoint inflation at all (giving it a total of 9 hardpoints (4E/5M) - x1 energy + x1 missile in each arm, x2 energy in the CT, x1 missile in the right-torso, and x2 missile in the left-torso)

The Archer Hero 'Mech could then be based on the ARC-2W & represent Jamie Wolf's personal 'Mech.
The hardpoint layout could be something like 2E/6M (x1 energy hardpoint in each arm, x3 missile hardpoints in each side-torso).

Or, let the Archer Hero 'Mech represent Morgan Kell's machine (hardpoints TBD) & let it pack both MASC and ECM in order to simulate Kell's ?Phantom 'Mech? ability...!?

still boils down to missile, lasers, every version.

No JJs, no Ballistics. BORING.

Starting with the Reseen image as a basis...
  • Resistance Black Knight head (with antenna copied to the other side)
  • Standard Enforcer legs
  • Standard Vindicator arms
  • Standard Shadow Hawk torso (with missile launcher in place of gun pod)
  • scaled to be the same height as the 35-ton Firestarter
Though, the VLK also runs into the issue of homogeneity, with every available variant (the VLK-QA, VLK-QF, and VLK-QD) carrying a base weapon placement of "missiles in the LT, energy in the RA".
Hardpoint inflation would help (the majority of the 30-ton IS 'Mech variants have 5-6 hardpoints), which would seem to suggest that one variant would be evenly split between energy and missile hardpoints (e.g. 3E/3M), one variant would be weighted toward energy over missiles (e.g. 4E/2M), and the third variant would be weighted toward missiles over energy (e.g. 2E/4M).

Thoughts?

Hmm... now I want to make a Photoshop mesh-up for the Valkyrie... (though I would really prefer some Bishop's rendition)

At least is not all-energy like the Black Knight, the Crab and the Wolfhound.

And there is an all-missile version. If it gets 8 hardpoints, that will be a very cool variant to run with (8 LRM/5s, 8 SSRMs or 8 SRM/4s are wow).

Isn't the Vulture in the same boat though for the most part? The archer might not be the most exciting nor have the K2 variant to make a little different setup, but it is still one of the iconic mechs that a lot of us enjoy.

You could make a similar argument with the wasp vs the spider? Both are small humanoid JJ using mechs with energy and missiles and not enough weight for big ballistics even when they have em.

For me the Archer is a mech I can load out with missiles and focus more on brute armor than mobility. Hopefully the model and stats reflect this. If I want a JJ heavy missile mech I go back to my old founders cat :D

you do know when I say Valkyrie in this context, I refer not to the Btech Val, but to the Valkyrie/Veritech of Macross/Robotech? Wasp, Stinger, Valkyrie, Phoenix Hawk and Crusader.

Mad Dog being an omni is far more versatile than the Archer. Spider is not a jumping humanoid 20 tonner.

And again, I DID NOT SAY I DON'T WANT IT, I SAID I WOULD PREFER SOME OTHER MECHS THAT ARE JUST AS ICONIC FIRST.

Caps to prevent more misunderstanding. Is that in plain enough english now?

Dunno if it is more versatile when I tend to see the same few builds for it *shrug*.

I know you aren't against them, I just want my Archer before you get your Wasp :D

My 8Q is my most played mech :D

Would have to be next weekend, but I am down if you have the premium time to start the match Bishop. We can work out the details on twitter and I can stream the match on twitch...... if you dare!*

What shall we call it? "The Next Great Mech Classic", "The Unseen Mean Stream", "The Purple & Blue Feud"? :D

Problem with DNS servers? reset your router/modem.

already done. No joy. I can access some websites, not others. When I diagnose, I get DNS error messages. Checked with my laptop, which is not connected, aside from using the same ISP, same issue. Smart phone too. Seems to be an issue outside my control.

for example:
"The server at www.speedtest.net can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network."

Firefox and IE, same issues.

Yes, all devices and browsers will get the same problem because they are getting internet from the same place. If you already hard reseted your modem/router and couldn't fix this, try to set a free DNS (like Google's) in the modem/router.

I have this issue time after time. Normally, only returning the modem/router to the default settings (by holding a wire in the proper hole of the equipment) and then re-configuring it fixes it.

gotta admit, my Archer of choice is the 2S, because of my preference for that tech era. And it's totally kick butt 100% stock.

But for this, I hope they give us the 5S, for that extra missile hardpoint via NARC. And well, free DHS and XL engine.
