I didn't see that coming!

Next IS mech, the Cyclops!

It not only looks great, but:
"All Cyclops variants come equipped with a Tacticon B-2000 Battle Computer in place of the standard Sensor suite.
This Battle Computer boosts the Sensor Range of not just the Cyclops, but any allied 'Mechs within range."

And with that, my wallet is safe for a few more months.

For extra geek points, the Collector's edition with the Malocchio paint job is intentionally playing on the color scheme of traditional charms/jewelery.

The Eridani's homeworld during their founding wasTrondheim which was owned by the Draconis but was space viking themed and would eventually be part of the FFR.

Sleipner was not a name ever associated with Ariana though, and she is of African descent (at least partially), so even though we have black space samurai, it would seem a stretch without supporting fiction. The same would be said of William Cameron the other most famous fluff Cyclops' pilot, from the Command Lance of Wolf's Dragoons.
the two notable pilots from the TROs have named mechs, the Archon's Eye and the Polyphemus, respectively.

I'm pretty sure it's called Sleipner because Russ has been binge watching Vikings. ;)

Yeah but it was my understanding they don't use actual mech names, which is why we have things like Top Dog etc. I think Sleipner is another little indication towards the Eridani Light Horse since in mythology Sleipnir was an 8 legged horse. The green camo is also the Eridani scheme.

On top of that, the cockpit item for this set, is a yellow background with a Horse head, almost like a nod to this:

Tell that to St Ives Blue, Yen Lo Wang, Legend Killer, etc.

Also, the Knight Chess piece is closer to the Insignia for Lindons Company, whose crest is.... a Chess Piece

With the announcement of he Cyclops, how do you think that'll affect which mech comes next? You all know I'm a big Nightstar fan but I can see people saying "We got an assault last time!" or some such.

Didn't stop the release of Alpha Lance, four heavy mechs back to back to back to back.

Even so, it's the time for an IS light mech...

My first thought when I saw that cockpit item wasn't Eridani Light Horse. I immediately thought "Hey, that looks more like the Lindon's Company insignia".

The whole horsehead chesspiece look, ya know. :)

As much as folks want the Stinger/Wasp double-take, I'd bet on a solo Valkyrie before that in the IS light bracket.

It's mostly a gut feeling to begin with, but as I consider it I think it probably stems from the fact that it would require twice as much dev work for ths same return.

(Dunno if someone would argue this, but just in case) Before someone argues about re-usable assets reducing the needed time, I'll argue that you want each of those 20-ton humanoid mechs to be as distinctive as possible from one another in every possible respect, given how similar they already are. Otherwise, why bother adding both?

Besides, the Valk actually looks fairly respectable loadout-wise compared to the Spiders.

That said, maybe Alex has a thing for humanoid 20-tonners, and maybe he's already got it sketched up. Who knows?

Also, for mediums, I'd be pretty happy woth one of several 40-tonners. It's kind of a tonnage soft spot right now, with a bunch of mechs that were more prominent in the House's assignment tables than the Cicada. I'm no lore pro, but there seem to be several easy options available.

I'm sure Alex could work some Viper/Cyclops magic on a couple ;)
