This.

But to be honest, I don't like energy boats.
And Clan battlemechs. (how they are superior in this game of the most advanced Omnimechs)
And above all, I don't like mechs where the majority of the variants are not canon. (I know that excludes many iconic chassis, but I would rather leave those mechs for the future - when PGI could actually release the futuretech variants)

In the end, I just wanted the Fire Moth... (or any new light mech, IS or Clan)

Amen to that.
We're starved for lights.

Agreed on Firemoth.

Dump the MASC, and we get a ton to play with. It's automatically the fastest much in the game with its locked engine.

If there's any worry about it going over the net code's speed limit, a micronerf (like 1% or 2%) to the top spee to bring it down to the Commando's old 170-something kph. Nothing goes 170 anymore, even that trolly PXH with the MASC.

/broken record

Firemoth please?

Forgive the venting on this . . .

Supernova . . . another mech added to the game that's not a light. It also continues to tip the power scale of gameplay towards heavies and assaults with lights being nerfed into oblivion and mediums barely being useful in anything outside of scouting mode . . . you know, that place where lights were supposed to shine but are rarely employed in favor of a medium.

Even the FW drop deck tonnage limits are pushing the game to ignore lights. What was it last time I looked? 265 tons? 3x 75 tons and 1x 40 ton is easy to do with that.

Apparently, because the "rock paper scissors" general balance feel got too hard to handle, PGI has just decided to remove lights from the overall equation by way of just ignoring them. What happened to each weight class giving up just enough maneuverability to gain enough firepower and armor to beat the lighter class, but an assault gave up so much maneuverability that it could be outmaneuvered and chewed up by a light and heavies were supposed to be a craps-shoot? Now most heavies and assaults are just quirked enough to do whatever they want. Don't be surprised when the Supernova comes with enough acceleration, deceleration, and turn rate quirks to compete with much lighter mechs . . . just like the Kodiak did.

----------------------------------------------------------------

There are a lot of available lights in timeline; and plenty of them have enough variety and viability to be utilized in game. I just wish PGI would get off their collective asses and balance the game enough for them to be viable, so they can release them.

Of course the other side of the spectrum is that they've screwed themselves so hard on the pricing that they're using, such that a light mech really isn't even discounted (if not being purchased for more than the in-game MC cost). They made some sort of a concession on the "Clan Heroes" sale, but it isn't enough and won't be enough for them to release a mech pack at the same rate.

Also, while the Urbanmech was the same price, it was also different. Single-mech-packs weren't a true thing, yet, and we thought it was just a good-faith move to fund the development of a mech that PGI wouldn't have put in the game otherwise. Apparently the amazing success of the sorely underestimated Urbie did nothing but wet PGI's appetite for "more lucrative" mech sale styles under the guise of it being "more value for the consumer" . . . only if you're buying heavies and assaults.

Rant over. Still don't feel better about it, but at least it's off my chest.

Tonnage limit is 250. It was 260 pre phase 3.

Right, sorry, forgot that they had that shift after Phase 3 flopped. Regardless, it's still easy to have 3x 65 tons and 1x 55 ton, or 2x 75 ton and 2x 50 ton or anything of similar sort. It's really easy to have drop decks that don't involve lights at all, which exacerbates the lack of desire to put lights into the game and basically phases them out, by design.

The killer for me is that lights have always been extremely important in lore and yet they're almost constantly just a stepping stone in the electronic games. On top of it the medium class is supposed to be the workhorse of Battletech, yet we don't see that, either, especially not in MWO.

:-O Looking good!

As to the Supernova... I said to myself I wasn't going to open my wallet until we got another light. And especially not for another assault. Skipped the Marauder IIC, didn't feel bad. Skipped the Bushwhacker, only moderately bad.

But.... I think between the art and the MW3 nostalgia, I'm going to crack here. That special camo. Posted Image I'm aware it may not be all that good, but other than the Stone Rhino this was my most-anticipated Clan assault since I know ATMs will probably never come.

We still NEED another light (Valkyrie!) but I'm falling down on the job.

Really... really should have been a light mech. Wallet closed for this one, just like the Linebacker, just like the MAD-IIC.

Maybe they really need to make a package consisting of 4 lights and mediums- or again a kind of Founder UrbanMech Style....collect the money before they start even making the Mech

Hopefully we'll get the Javelin or some semi decent light. (Followed by the Nightstar!)

The Valkyrie is completely inferior to the Javelin & 20t mechs suck & will not sell, even if they're iconic.

Personally I think any light with a large number of variants could be used. Just release an extra variant or two to offset the perceived value.

The Super Nova looks like an Ebon Jaguar that loves it's snack food a bit too much and doesn't get enough exercise.

Since it looks like PGI is moving to the MW3 mechs now, the Annihilator is not absolutely far fetched anymore...
