My big mouth prediction:

Charger + Hatamoto Chi, will be the December mech announcement at mech con.

It fits the requirement of technically never having been done, without actually doing much that's more than technically new.

Releasing 2 mech chassis from lore, each retaining their own designator (CGR, HTM), but as a single chassis in-game, so they exist under the same skill tree? Nope, that's never been done.

The Mauler wouldn't be acknowledged as a counterexample, because Daboku would be cited as a prototype, and it was fudged in with a Mauler's MAL designator.

CGN and HTM, while based on the same frame, have distinctive histories, and outright combining 2 mature chassis that way while retaining separate designator would "technically" be new.

This has just the right feel of plausibility and deniability to it. ;)

Popcorn anyone?

Edit: spelling

That is something I haven't seen as an idea yet.

I'm betting on IS-Omni's, only problem is most of the early ones are maybe okay, with a couple that could be decent, a couple that will need a complete re-imagining in terms of art work to not totally suck.

Well Russ said it won't be "just a new Mech" (like the Madcat MKII would), so I hope there is indeed something more to it. Perhaps it is melee, but if PGI really cannot implement new weapons - what chance does a wholly new class of weapons have?

My bets are on the IS Omnis too, because they are true to what Russ said and because they require little new coding (I think). They are something I would definitely try out. The Black Hawk-KU would be an instant buy for me, although I do not like the others all that much.

Oddly enough the Black Hawk KU is one of the two that could be okay right out of the box....

Black Hawk KU
Raptor

Owens -- bad due to SHS
Strider - Bad due to SHS

Firestarter Omni -- poor to decent
Blackjack Omni -- poor to decent

Avatar -- decent, depending on model and hit boxes, official art give it a case of Awesomeiteus
Sunder -- decent, depending on model and hit boxes, official art leaves it in a dangerous spot with a hard lock 360xl

Yeah I agree. Neither option gets me very excited but I suppose they're the two front runners.

Actually, this looks close enough of something Alex Iglesias would do (but I don't know the author):

more oddly if you redesign the KU and drop it for 5tons you get a even better performer.

I think IS Omnis need some heavy redesigns to work - the number of builds is very limited, I know some people have some romantic ideas about the Sunder or Owens from MW4...but the "real" TT record sheet builds will be horrible.
Not to mention the number of variants - without C3 computers
The Sunder Prime might be ok - with 1 AC20; 3SRM4 and 4 energy weapons.... decent speed thanks to LBX and some room for more DHS to keep it in the brawl as long as the ST remains intact.

The Avatar is 100% depending on its hitboxes - when they are good he might perform ok. problem the hard wired medium lasers -

another omni might be the Firestarter O - although it doesn't have enough room for weapons.

Hm---- hey we did talk about the Clan-IS Mech:
I think the BattleCobra is the Mech....and while not the fastest with its 40tons it keeps a STD fusion and some nasty energy boat variants

Yup... Hence my rankings for them, none of them got a 'good', just an 'okay'.

Wonder if they'll give the Avatar the pair of hard mounted medium lasers.

Warhammer
Marauder
Locust
Devistator
Templar

Steiner Loyalists:
Commando
Hatchetman
Axeman
Bushwacker
Uziel
Fafnir

Hey, it is an opinion question. Everyone might have slightly different opinions. I asked Bishop te other night to end up with a list a mile long for Stiener alone o.O

I could've given you a mile long list for each faction, but I went with highlights.

Haha it's because Metus covered it pretty thoroughly. But I just said the Templar for Davion. It's the go to mech of several important ppl, common in the novels and you protect it's factory in MW4 mercs.

Steiner has the Fafnir (whose trial area you also protect or ddestroy in mercs) and the Hauptmann that's piloted by Nondi Steiner at the end of the Davion storyline.

If one wants to get down right to the nitty gritty, both sides of the Civil war have the same mechs, as for a while they were the one and the same military officially, how ever since the mid 3020's the AFFS (Armed Forces of the Federated Suns) and the LCAF (Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces) had been closely tied to each other, with the AFFS helping to train the weaker trained, but better armed, LCAF. Almost like the Canadian and US militaries, though separate forces, they work very, very closely with each other.

Yeah I know the story although I don't think the Canadians are better eequipped. ;)
