To be honest, I am irritated by both: the people who claim the Mad Cat MKII was "iconic" (as if it stood on equal footing with the Mad Cat or the Atlas - which it simply does not), and the people who claim the Mech is a "knock-off" with bad performance.

I for one had never any special feelings for the Mad Cat MKII. I accepted it as part of the lore and as part of some FCCW-era RATs, and that's fine. I also never had a problem with it being marketed and sold to the IS to point that it became part of the IS RATs of 3067 (FedSuns e.g.).
It would not be my first Clan choice when it comes to FCCW-era Mechs, because that's the Nova Cat. But there is no denying its ok. It is likely not all too bad in MWO.

So it is fine from the lore point of view, and it does well from the meta point of view. That is good. I can accept that even if I am not one of the "it was in MW:4, it must be iconic"-crowd.

Compare it to the irrelevance and mediocrity that is the Uziel and the Annihilator, and you will appreciate the Mad Cat MKII. Posted Image

And I'd trade all four of the coming units for a Templar....

It might have been aimed at IS sales, but it was a godsend for the Nova Cats, as well as other Clan related entities such as the Dragoons, and was useful to the Dominion, as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the vast majority of MKII sold were done so to Clan or pseudo-Clan entities. Just makes the "Hey, give the MKII to the IS pilots too" argument seem a smidge silly.

Especially since the models that were sold to the IS also had to have Clan weapon systems removed in order to not bring upon the wrath of the rest of the Clans. It stands to reason that they were chassis, only. Kinda like what the US does with our fighters when we sell them to Japan. We sell just an airframe, and they install whatever they want inside of it.

First paragraph is good, on the second your lore-fu failed you, my friend, though you may have been thinking about the Ha-Otoko

It is very hard to further disappoint me by now. An IS Mech that had a role in the FCCW or one that is good in MWO would be enough for me. But seeing PGI skipped the pride and joy of the LAAF (promissing good performance in MWO) in favour of the red headed stepchild of the LAAF (promissing to be mediocre at best) - I am prepared for everything.

It's funny. My list of Mechs I'd buy with real money is long; too many to list here. Some of those are on the list because I like their lore (Fafnir, Templar, Valkyrie), some because I think they'd help the IS (Dragon Fire, Nightstar, Lynx), some because I want IS Omnis (Men Shen, Black Hawk-KU), and some because I love cavalry Mechs (Excalibur, Spartan). And many more.

Come on, PGI. Just one hit, please.

Let's make it a dual release, with something for the Clanners!

CSV's very own Crossbow with OmniArmsOnly ftw!

Y U h8 missile m8?

/kidding

It totally would.

40 tons heavier than a Mist Lynx, with no JJs or possibility of ECM, yet dominated the same way by arm-mounted weapon loadouts.

At least there's no locked CAP?

The funny thing is, the Stinger and Wasp might actually be okay, 120 series base engine using the standard 1.4 multiplier for engines used on lights gives a 168 engine cap, rounded to 170, if PGI feels generous they could boost it to 180, pushing them to nearly Locusts speed with 6 JJ's!

Eek.

I'm imagining 6JJs under the proposed skill tree.

A single JJ on a hot map begins to fill the heat bar if there are no skill points sunk into it to manage heat. These 20-tonners will need all the help they can get to perform, but they'll need to soak points in the JJ tree for the equipment to not be a detriment right off the bat.

At that point, having been taxed 5-plus (most likely plus) points just to manage JJ heat so they don't cause problems, they can get around to the question of how else to skill up.

I think an XL180 could be plenty workable. I run that on some Locust builds where I need to scrape up an extra half ton. Unfortunately, I don't know that I'll be able to engage in high-risk armor stripping the same way I can in a Locust. Hmmmmmmmmm.

And yet I still want one. Not as much as the old IS Crossbbow, but it's my second favorite heavy clam mech.

That's okay, I like the Mist Lynx plenty myself. There's more than one reason I chose it for the comparison.

The heart wants what it wants ;)

Edit: What's your favorite?

To put this into perspective, a WSP-1W could look like this, gauss ammo for JJ's. That's still a darn fast jumpy assassin mech.
