Yes and no. I think the originals were but then hand cleaned up to exacting degrees, and used to create a master mold. These are the first test samples of the cast resin minis.

this is what the original 3D prints look like

so these are going to be done in several batches I guess. But are pressure injected resin to avoid the deformities that the old Plastech are so "famous" for.

You almost had me going with that Warhammer. I thought it was a Warhammer IIC at first glance; 3D printed as a plausable artwork rendition of what it would look like in MW:O. *sniffs*

So... for quite some time I was on the edge of preordering the Hellspawn... it's so ugly, it's actually cute... now I finally did. Damn you Alex...

ETA -1 day to Piranha announcement? Really need those for my Wolf-in-Exile roster. Btw. anybody an idea what ingame color could substitute bronze? Not quite happy with the Omega Galaxy colors so far... Alpha is pretty easy, Beta as well, even Golden Keshik, but Omega I cannot find a good ingame color... have to wait how the Gold in the Arctic Wolf preorder turns out.

Seeing how it is October, I suspect we will have a mech that is an unannounced Light or Medium, so these are the mechs that could make it in.

Clan Lights:
Howler - 20 tons
Fire Moth - 20 tons
Piranha - 20 tons
Fire Falcon - 25 tons
Hellion - 30 tons
Horned Owl - 35 tons
Incubus - 30 tons
Locust IIC - 25 tons

Clan Mediums:
Battle Cobra - 40 tons
Conjurer - 50 tons
Griffin IIC - 40 tons
Phantom - 40 tons
Pouncer - 40 tons
Mongrel - 45 tons
Shadow Hawk IIC - 45 tons
Vapor Eagle - 55 tons
Black Lanner - 55 tons
Stooping Hawk - 55 tons

Bold shows the mechs and tonnage needed.

So I checked Piranha.... God, when this comes out, locust is completely obsolete, with exception of missile variant if PGI does not make Piranha missile variant.

Of course, it finally means a Clan 20-tonner.

I don't expect the Piranha to have a single positive quirk whatsoever. It's massive hardpoint count basically IS a quirk, especially since it's not an Omni and can be refit as needed. It's definitely the Locust for the Clans, though.

Na.
The Piranha will be awesome yeah, but it'll be super fragile, bigger and won't have that much longevity for the most part - very quickly heating up or running out of ammo.

The Locust will be tougher, smaller and generally have more sustainability, with a constant DPS output. Likely more agile too with all its base quirks, that the Piranha is unlikely to see outside of some leg structure.

I've been telling people for months that, if they want Clans to get a 20 tonner that isn't an overspecialised junk mech, they need to stop voting for the Trollfish, because thats exactly what it is. The Howler would be way better. But, then again, this is the MWO fandom we are talking about.

In before it gets nerfed into the ground after three months down the road. Can't say I haven't warned you fan boys who wanted it. In the meantime, enjoy the boating while you can.

Don't get me wrong, but people tend to say this about pretty much every friggin mech that get's released. Other than the Night Owl and the Sloth Bear I don't see a mech that has been nerfed into oblivion.

Yes, there're a lot of niche mechs and the Piranha may be one of them. But first of all, it's something different, it's a weight class that is missing in the clan ranks and it's a BattleMech. Second there'll finally be a reason for Micro Lasers. The funniest thing is, the Piranha is the first mech clan pilots have to upgrade to double heat sinks as the Prime comes with singles (only the Prime tho)... It might even get Javelin/Assassin-like hitboxes.

You can max out the armor on that thing by just switching to Ferro-Fibrous without losing any weight (you actually gain a net 0.1t). In TT it's just shy of 1 point of armor in the head and 2 on each leg (double the armor for MWO - so 16/18 head, and 14/18 legs) and has 16 available crit slots. Also downgrade the MG's to LMG's to get more ammo per tonnage. The CT heat sink has to move if upgraded to double heat sinks, because of the CT energy hardpoint. I would probably downgrade the Lasers to ER Smalls just for better sustained dps and less facetime. Now slap on more ammo or a TC1 and you're set.

I doubt the Howler is any better, Prime has 3 LRM5 and 3 tons of ammo, -2 has 4 ATM3 and 2 tons of ammo (with an even downgraded engine and MASC) and -3 has one ER PPC and a TC... and it's a lot slower. Also that thing has a giant shoot me here shoulder.

But while we're at it, I still want the Icestorm, but that won't happen any time soon (just 2 variants and one is Jihad-era).

Howler can (and should be) released later.
Piranha now.

Aside from the silly builds people will make, it will be a solid little mech when built right, and it's the developers namesake, so it should rightly be in the game.

I know exactly what the Piranha is, but I still want the damn thing!
And with my extensive 20T experience and realistic expectations of the mech, I'll have a **** ton of fun!

Bring me my Ankle Biter dammit!

Optimal Piranha will have: Endo, Ferro, CDHS, 107pts Armour (5 arms, 1 head)):
(If it gets it) XL200, 6.5T, 26S available
XL190 / 195, 7T, 24S available
XL180, 7.5T, 24S available
XL170, 8T, 22S available
XL145, 8.5T, 20S available
XL100, 9T, 18S available

I will quite likely run mine with 12 MG/LMG, 3T ammo, and 3 ERSL/HSL and a 180.

Yep

That's pretty much what I had in mind too. XL180 with speed tweak will bring it to around 162 kph which is plenty.

Well, it would be foolish for PGI not to release the Pirahna. In a business perspective, it is a smart marketing move to relate something to your product. Pirahna Games, Pirahna battlemech, come on. If PGI wanted to, they could call their hero mech the PRH-PGI for the sake of it. It makes sense.

I see how that could be a cute tie in, but that sounds painfully childish and more like an exploitation than it does a solid marketing ploy. IF they were producing and original mech named a piranha I could see it being valid, but taking something well established because of a shared name is like and MC claiming an original song as purely his own.
