Bruh. Do you even comp?

Like the top 1% of the top 1% can XL check you MID twist from like 5 klicks away at night, in the mist and stuff. From behind a building. In mid jump. Bruh. And we know everything in this game has to exist solely to cater to them, instead of the 80-90% of the playerbase that are Tiers 3-5.

GOSH!

Haha I've played against them and an xl was not a problem. Honestly it's all about being able to twist. A championship game I wouldn't XL because it is more dangerous and all it takes is for a little bit of bad luck and you're done with your team outnumbered.

I'm actually rather pleased with the Incubus. It's like the Clans' version of the standard Phoenix Hawk (minus Jump Jets); and Alex's interpretation, like usual, looks incredible. I like how he captured the spirit of the unseen (even though it has zero legal issues) while putting the very clear MWO spin on it. I've wanted to see this one in MWO for a while.

While not likely to dethrone the Arctic Cheetah or Mist Lynx MG boats, it should still be a solid clan light mech; and it could possibly take the top spot. That'll, of course, depend on quirks . . . and if it's like most other clan releases it's not likely to start with any strong quirks.

The fact that it's a Battlemech certainly helps its cause, though. The speeds it'll be reaching with a respectable payload (courtesy of Clan tech) will certainly be blowing away IS lights. ~8.5 tons of free space with a max engine and Near Max Clan FF Armor (shaving down to nearest half ton) is a lot for the hardpoints it has. While somewhat negative, the fact that there's no JJ, ECM, or MASC means more tonnage devoted to guns; and it'll be moving plenty fast at 153.9kph before skills. You don't even need to shave much speed to give yourself an extra 1.5 tons to work with (a nice even 10 tons for weapons and still going 143.1kph before skills).

Funny thing . . . despite the obvious inspirations there's ZERO legal ties to this mech and NOTHING for HG to go after. It's like PGI's sticking it to them just because. Makes me wish PGI would fix what I want them to fix so I'd spend money on MWO again. Oh well.

Well I was looking at the HPs and aside from the energy boat with 7E I'm a little doubtful of it's hardpoints.

It's the fastest thing the Clans get on two legs, being able to beat the Piranha and Jenner IIC. And since it's got a lot of torso hardpoints, stripping the arms down is a distinct possibility here for another half-ton or so. In fact, it matches the Spider in terms of ground speed and is pretty darn close to the Hero Commando as a result. And yeah, the form does have echoes of the classic bug 20-tonners.

Nice looking. Decent mech. Used em a fair bit in TT. And yet... totally uninterested. Ah well, win some months, lose some, just like everyone else!

8.5 to 10 tons is a lot to work with . . . which makes me think those variants are going to be just fine.

INC-1: 4x HMG w/ 2t ammo (4 tons) + 2x ERmcL (.5 ton) + 2x HML (2 tons) + 2 DHS = 8.5 tons.

INC-2: 1x HLL or ERLL (4 tons) + 2x HML (2 tons) + 4x DHS = 10 tons.

INC-3: 4x MG w/ 2t ammo (3 tons) + 2x ERSL (1 ton) + 2x CSRM4 + 2 tons ammo (4 tons) + Either LAP (.5 ton) or 1-3 DHS = 8.5 to 10 tons.

INC-4: 7E hardpoints . . . insert any boated small/medium laser vomit build here.

INC-5: 3x HML (3 tons) + 4x LMG w/ 1.5t ammo (2.5 tons) + 3x DHS (3 tons) = 8.5 tons

INC-SA: 2x SRM6 w/ 3tons ammo (6 tons) + 2x ER/H ML (2 tons) + 2 DHS = 10 tons

INC-SA ver2: 3x SSRM4 w/ 3 tons ammo (6 tons) + 2xERSL (1 ton) + LAP or CAP (.5-1 ton) = 8.5-9 tons.

Meta or not, they should be solid builds that'd be pretty fun to play in QP; and some would certainly be viable enough in FP. I'm sure there's better out there, that's just thrown together in a few minutes as I typed. I just wanted to throw out some examples of reasonable builds.

It will be interesting to see what IS Mech PGI has chosen for the next release. Perhaps the Vulcan signalled a (much needed) shift away from MW:4, which also makes sense considering HBS BT and MW:5 use 3025/39 era units. But then TRO:3025 is well covered already and the biggest fan favourites left are Unseens. (I would love the OST-series, though! Even the Ostscout has some viable variants, and its redesign looks extremely cool).

So perhaps PGI does something completely unexpected, a surprise. TRO:3058 and especially TRO:3055 include some gems, even if they are largely unknown to non-TT fans, and in case of the latter Alex could really shine when updating their sometimes awkward designs.

Or perhaps PGI choses some middle ground. The Lancelot e.g. is a little less known but it could work well in MWO and has a variant ready for 3025... It has a lot of different variants actually. It's a really nice chassis.
Other nice Mechs from TRO:2750 also feature level 1-tech variants like the Flashman, the Exterminator or the Thug.

But in the end, I am afraid there won't be much of a surprise...

I hope we get IS OmniMechs, but I reckon it will be something to fit the up-to-3039 timeline they established for the MWOWC.

Odds are it's an IS 'mech. Odds are it's a Heavy, though it could be an Assault, or even a Light, but unlikely to be a Medium.

So, looking over my list of desired 'mechs...
There are 3 Heavy 'mechs I want (2 are extinct, though 1 re-enters production during the Jihad)
Lancelot
Dragoon
Hammerhands

There are 5 Assault 'mechs I want (although I think 2 are extinct in the current timeline)
Thug
Rampage
Emperor
Pillager
Thunder Hawk

There are no Light 'mechs I want

So... Lancelot, I guess?

  • Argus
  • Crusader
  • Black Hawk KU
  • Lancelot
  • Excalibur
  • Ostroc

No Anvil? I doubt we'll get the BH-Ku because PGI will make a big deal out of the IS Omnis.

PGI can always make up their own variants, and there's also quirks failing that.

ANV-3M: The baseline, give it whatever assorted quarks it needs. Based on the TT quirks we could start by giving it an extended torso twist radius (average heavy is 90 degrees, give Anvil something like 110) and beam duration (to simulate the "Improved Targeting - Medium Range" quirk). Because of its high mount advantage I'd actually give it the agility of an average 65-tonner instead of matching the Dragon or Quickdraw (except the ANV-3R).

ANV-3R: Removes JJs and adds armor, thus it can have better agility than other variants and maybe better durability quirks.

ANV-5M: Replaces LPLs with ERLLs and MLs, thus it gets a laser range quirk.

ANV-5Q: Reduces armor and removes ECM for more heatsinks, thus it gets an energy heat quirk and maybe weaker durability quirks than the others.

I don't have any ideas for the 6M though, and the 8M is just impossible because it requires Arrow IV. I imagine that PGI would probably add a made-up ballistic variant as either a hero or reinforcement. I imagine a PPC variant would be likely too (trading beam duration quirks for velocity).

I doubt the Whirled Chamionship will factor into the next mech decision. By the time the next announced mech is finally patched in, it'll be long after they set the seedings through the comp queue, and likely around the time they lock the build for the standalone tourney client.

Odds are that a late addition mech like that would spark pay-to-play concerns. The Vulcan wasn't included in the tourney rules, it's dropping sooner, and it's got 3039 variants.

Now, it may "coincidentally" conform to 3039 patterns if they're stocking up on common 3039 mechs for MW5, due to the obvious relationship between the 3039 stock ruleset for WC (lol) and the MW5 timeline.

ClanTech mediums are kind of proportionally underrepresented at the moment. Gimme some medium IIC goodness please :)

Want: GRF-IIC
Expect: Conjurer/Hellhound
Lol: SHD-IIC (because neither of the above)
TopKek: Stooping Hawk (because few dare to expect it, though it won't be that bad)

It's always been one of the rules that only mechs available for cbills can be used.
