Though, the other thing to consider is crit space - an LRM-20 consumes 5 criticals, a SRM-6 consumes 2 criticals, and a (supposed) Large Laser consumes 2 criticals.

Why the heck people think that's a Large Laser?

Do we know if the "Snord model" will necessarily be able to jump (or even equip Jump Jets), though?

You can see clearly the Jump Jets in its rear torso (video: 0'27'').

I hope they announce BattleMech 20 in the next few weeks as the media silence is killing me.

I still think they will base the next assault mech from TRO 3039.

In "Ask The Devs 34" the answer to the question of wether or not split weapon criticals (e.g. AC/20 split between arm and torso) would be introduced into the game, the answer was no. Sooo...sorry to say but you can most likely take the King Crab off the list. The only way they could introduce it without this change would be to fudge the canon blueprint and remove the hand and lower arm actuators.

...or reduce the AC/20 to 9 crits.

Realistically the next battlemechs announced will likely be <redacted>. Just sayin'.

They won't do this.

I really don't see why the king crab would need hand actuators, if the hand is supposed to at least be simi-functional then the art would have to be adjusted. Still any use of the hands would potentially mess up the weapon located there.

It could also probably do without both arm actuators. So this would make it all possible. Its just to ingrained in the timeline (and one of the limited unseen from the time period that fits all the other criteria) to leave out.

Wasn't there another mech that used split criticals in addition to the King Crab?

In all honesty I can see them just going the route of removing the actuators to allow the AC/20s to fit.

The Axman's AXM-1N variant splits its AC/20 across the RT and CT.

There are certainly others, but the AXM and the KGC are the ones that readily come to mind.

Based on the Master Unit List this is everything available between 80 to 100 tons from 2250 to 3050. Obviously some of these aren't in production but if that is/was the case we wouldn't be seeing nearly as many variants in the game (not counting possible hero versions):

Awesome (in-game already)
AWS-8Q, AWS-8R, AWS-8T, AWS-8V, AWS-9M (All 5 variants in game)

Charger
CGR-1A1, CGR-1A5, CGR-1A9, CGR-1L, CGR-3K

Hatamoto-Chi
HTM-26T, HTM-27T (not enough variants)

Striker
STC-2C, STC-2S (not enough variants)

Thug
THG-10E, THG-11E, THG-11Eb

Victor
VTR-9A, VTR-9A1, VTR-9B, VTR-9D, VTR-9K, VTR-9S

Zeus
ZEU-5S, ZEU-5T, ZEU-6S, ZEU-6T, ZEU-9S, ZEU-9S-DC

Crockett
CRK-5003-0, CRK-5003-1, CRK-5003-1b, (Katana) CRK-5003-2

Shogun
SHG-2E, SHG-2F, SHG-2H

Stalker (Already in-game)
STk-3F, STK-3H, STK-4N, STK-5M, STK-5S (all 5 variants in game)

Cyclops
CP-10-Z, CP-10-Q, CP-11-A, CP-11-A-DC, CP-11-C

Highlander (announced for game)
HGN-732, HGN-733, HGN-733C, HGN-733P (all 4 variants announced for game)

Mauler
MAL-1R (not enough variants)

Banshee
BNC-3E, BNC-3M, BNC-3MC, BNC-3Q, BNC-3S

Annihilator
ANH-1A, ANH-2A (not enough variants)

Atlas (already in-game)
AS7-D, AS7-D-DC, AS7-K, AS7-RS (all 4 variants in game)

Imp
IMP-2E, IMP-3E (not enough variants)

King Crab
KGC-000, KGC-0000, KGC-010

So given the above the real choices are: Charger, Thug, Victor, Zeus, Shogun, Cyclops, Banshee and the King Crab. Odanan I call on you to revise your estimates on the front page!

Notes:
  • Why do I list everything from 2250-3050? Because the only Awesomes produced during the Late Succession War era and Clan Invasion eras are the AWS-8V and AWS-9M. So I don't think they are going off when it's produced so much as when it was first made.
  • Also I'm not listing the reseen/unseen at all.
  • I also avoided any non traditional technical readout (such as the operation klondike readout) and all future technical readouts past 3050 that update past readouts.
  • The Hatamoto-Chi has a lot of side variants with only minor changes. which is why I didn't list them.
  • We might see the Atlas C and CM in the future once they implement C3 however they are just offshoots of the K variant with the C3 installed so it's unlikely. The AS7-S isn't yet available in the timeline so it's not listed.
  • The Crockett is an "iffy" choice due to the chassis being renamed the Katana later in it's life cycle.
  • There is no way I am adding the Mackie to this list.

Every time I see the Thug, I see a copy of a mech already in the game.

Energy HPs in arms and missile ports in the side torsoes on a 80 ton frame? AWS-8T, is that you? :)

Great analysis, but tainted by partial treating of some mechs (like the Hatamoto Chi - why not writing all its variants?).

Also. the Annihilator could have 3 variants, if we count the ANH-1E (field refit, I know...). And the Imp has 4.

This! ^

The Thug looks very good but wouldn't add anything to the game.

(not to mention all the 3 Thug variants are exactly the same crap)

We already know from the Highlander that field refit variants count.

The Shogun really only has two variants that fit the time line considering the 2E swaps out the ER PPC for a standard PPC, making it a pointless and redundant variant.

I honestly think it only comes down to the Banshee, Zeus, Victor, King Crab and the Cyclops. I don't see the Charger coming in since it was considered a failed design and not all that useful (not to mention that PGI frowns upon spam tackling) as well as the Hatamoto being an improved Charger.

I see it being either the Banshee, because of the weight gap, or the Zeus for it's iconic history and it's well rounded armament.

With the Victor and Clops being dark horses considering neither fills a niche that is needed or have anything about them to make them stand out. (in my opinion, of course)

The King Crab unfortunately probably won't make it in due to the fact of it's design quirkiness. The silhouette alone makes it a highly dubious choice.

That doesn't mean that they can't change the hard points around to make it a separate variant.

Look at the catapults C4 variant which can be made with the C1 hard points. 2x20lrms and a small laser.

True but sounds like too much work, lol.
