Their attempts to "cover" could be just for building hype.

Anyway, the upper arms are very skinny, like some Clan mechs. It is not the Wolverine or the Griffin, for sure.

the "caption" that goes with that set of photographs (about 4 in all) is something along the lines of "here's the images we could get from the Periphery before Comstar cut our transmission. Everything else was corrupted."

It's a Timber Wolf.
You don't see the cockpit bubble because the sun is positioned behind the back. The shadow is skewed to be longer/wider on the bottom than the top which is why it's hard to discern the reverse knee and why the weapon pods look large on the arms and small for the missile racks.

Yep, also the mech is clearly in shutdown, so due to the light positioning and the nose pointing to the ground, there's no chance that any shadow is cast by the cockpit.

Wait a second, images from the periphery? I know that map, I've been there! Does that mean I've been fighting in the periphery all this time? I haven't seen any peculiar mechs.... Or at least I don't remember... Dang it, that's why I got invited to that Comstar dinner.....
