So, last night on the NGNG stream Daeron confirmed that the art department is working on the Mauler. No date on it being released. My best guess is late this year, maybe early next. But then again, this technically isn't even confirmation that it will ever be playable in game.

Thoughts, opinions?

But they are working on the Mauler for this project, right?
Or they are talking about PGI guys working on the Mauler? (those are completely unrelated things)

BTW, amazing project! Looking forward for playing this game.

Nope, artwork for this project is handled by Shortpainter, and last night tidbit was about Alex Iglesias working on Mauler.

I always assumed the Mauler wouldn't be added because of the lack of variants but, hey, if they are going to add it, it will be fantastic. An Assault with 4x AC/5, 4x UAC/5s, 4x LB-X/10s or 2x AC/20s would be terrific.

Without a jump in time to get currently not available tech, this mech doesnt have 3 variants.

My bets are on the Banshee to fill the 95 ton gap or the Zeus.

Of course - even if Alex is working on Mauler design now, there's no chance that actual model will be ready for release next month. I'd like Cyclops, but competition is close

As for Mauler - they could introduce it without 3 variants - just by increasing xp cost for unlocking efficiencies accordingly. They'll have to either loosen the restrictions or revamp whole mech skill system anyway, because they'll soon run out of designs iconic enough to bother introducing.

Let's get this medium speculation out of the way. As I said before more 50 and 55 tonnage mechs are unlikely due to their weight brackets being over populated. Let's see what the 40 and 45 tonnage brackets have!

Again, 3 time wise variants and not currently in MWO:

40 Tons
Assassin - 101, 21, 23
Clint - 1-2R, 2-3T, 2-3U
Hermes II - 2K, 2M, 2S, 4K, 5S
Sentinel - 1S, 3K, 3KA, 3KB, 3L, 3M
Vulcan - 2T, 5T, 5M, 5S
Whitworth - 0, 1, 1S, 2

45 Tons
Hatchetman - 3F, 3NH, 5S
Vindicator - 1R, 1SIC, 1X, 3L
Wyvern - 5N, 5Nb, 6N

I'm a little iffy on the Wyvern because the 5Nb is from TRO3075. Anyways while the 40 tonners out number the 45 tonners 2-1 I'm still rooting for the Vindicator. Not to mention we'll get the St. Ives Compact onto the board.

40 Tons
Assassin - Not a fan.
Clint - One of my favourite light mediums in TT, would love to see it in MWO.
Hermes II - Not a fan.
Sentinel - Ugleeee! Get away from me!
Vulcan - Meh.
Whitworth - Meh

45 Tons
Hatchetman - Hell yeah! (Obviously needs melee combat implemented)
Vindicator - Only if we get the original PPC cooling system working
Wyvern - Meh.

The original PPC cooling system for the Vindicator:

Quote

The weapon also features an innovative cooling jacket which possesses water intake ports around the muzzle, allowing the pilot to dip the PPC into a body of water and quickly cool it, with steam exiting via a nozzle at the opposite end. However this process leaves the Vindicator vulnerable as it must kneel motionless for ten seconds.

Guys, I'm starting to realize the devs will continue to add IS mechs even with the Clans.

Think about it: the Clan Collection mechs will be done by June, so the art department must engage into something else. Why not release two mechs per month? (The Firestarter and the new Assault mech are here to tell us something)

So, we might get 10 more IS mechs in 2014 (!!). Jesus, I'm the only only excited with this?

I'd love to have two mechs/month, but i don't think it'll be the case, for one simple reason - there ain't enough good mechs out there to make it so till 2018-2020, even if PGI jumped the timeline and started to somehow add mechs with less than 3 variants.

Verily. So far the devs haven't said that they aren't releasing the Griffin and Wolverine. But that they've released the Firestarter and announced that a new Assault will be coming in March (Banshee, you all heard it here first!) So it's likely we'll get more IS mechs. As the Devs stated the Phoenix package gave them a buffer in releasing some mechs solo (Locust, Shadowhawk, Thunderbolt and Battlemaster). We know their Clan mechs are pretty much finished being modeled and animated (at least the initial 8) and we aren't sure yet how they are going to handle the C-bill versions of those mechs yet.

Here's my guesses based on what we have:

Current Lights (7): Locust, Flea (June?), Commando, Spider, Raven, Jenner and Firestarter

Current Mediums (9): Cicada, Blackjack, Hunchback, Centurion, Trebuchet, Kintaro, Shadowhawk, Griffin and Wolverine

Current Heavies (7): Dragon, Quickdraw, Catapult, Jagermech, Thunderbolt, Cataphract and Orion

Current Assaults (6): Awesome, Victor, Stalker, Battlemaster, Highlander and Atlas

So we know the Flea isn't in game yet but the Devs have stated it's still going to be in the game. It's been delayed due to MASC but knowing the Clan lights use MASC they should have it set by June so we will see the Flea sometime this year.

If they want to even out the tonnage brackets then 7 Months of 2014 will be non-medium mechs. We know February and March are both going to be non mediums (Firestarter for Feb and unannounced Assault for March). So we've got 9 months left in the year and 5 more non mediums. So we could start seeing the return to the old (Light>Medium>Heavy>Assault) release rotation later this year.

Here's my take on what we'll see:

Lights: Javelin and Mongoose to fill out the bracket. Then if there is 1 more light release this year I believe it will be the Hermes.

Mediums: Vindicator if we only get 1 medium this year. If we do happen to get another then Clint or Sentinel.

Heavies: So like the lights we're looking at 2-3 heavies. My guesses are Guillotine, Lancelot and Black Knight. Maybe die hard fans will get lucky and PGI will release a Marauder special (?).

Assaults: We know we're getting one in March and my take on that is the Banshee. After that it looks like we'll get another 2-3. After the Banshee my guesses are Zeus, Cyclops and honestly the King Crab. I think they may do something special with the King Crab and give it's arms Omnimech rules where the hand and arm actuators remove if you mount an AC20 in them. But who knows.

As for future IS Medium mechs I believe after the ones stated above they will eventually add the Hatchetman. It's the most intelligent choice between the 45 ton mechs and would be a better addition then the Wyvern. As for another 40 tons we may see the Whitworth, and possibly the Vulcan/Assassin.

I hope the Flea is delayed. No need for that after the Locust.

Next Light: Javelin;

Next Medium: Vindicator;

Next Heavy: Lancelot;

Next Assault: (after the Banshee in March) Cyclops or Zeus - if it is the Mauler, even better.

Honestly at this point I've resigned myself to the fact that the Flea will eventually be in the game.

I think the Flea and Locust should be especially vulnerable to flamers...... have them plump up then pop like popcorn.... then it would give them a purpose in the game (my amusement) and the flamers a place too.
