In fact I think you _did_ a redesign with a cowled head a long time ago. I seem to remember liking that one a lot.

Well, technically, the cowl is an add on, if you read the fluff. I just made it into a dome, because the head under the cowl in most illustrations couldn't actually hold a person.

Firstly, the model. It has a number of pros (high mounted energy, thin cockpit hitbox, good hardpoints, squat) and a number of cons, (low mounted ballistics/arm weaponry, limited arm movement, wide) leaving it well-balanced.
Secondly the variants all bring something different, including the hero mech. 1X is energy heavy, 2X brings some missiles, the 3D has jumpjets and the 4X has more arm ballistics. Then the Ilya spreads its array of hardpoints differently, resulting in a mech that has a number of builds different to its other variants without being drastically better.
The Shadowhawk is currently in a similar position, barring the hero mech which we have no idea about. Hopefully it won't turn out to be awful, because that'd be a real shame. Why can't every chassis be as well rounded as this?

Oh, wait, yes they would...

Naturally a 100 ton machine made out of clan-tech weaponary would turn the whole galaxy into blood, right? so...

And yes, I respect your opinion as equally valuable.
My reply:
1- When I first played MW4 I was mortified by the low quality of the textures and the blocky models. I just re-played MW3 to double-check, and for my taste, it looks superior than MW4. Heck, MW3 even had partially-destroyable buildings and deformable terrain. Also, you can dive into water in MW3.
2- They look clownish, but the MWO showed us that is possible to transform that in gold. Also, MW4 had (lazily?) outfits similar to those of the XX Century (jet fighter cockpits, helmets, mics, etc.) instead of anything BT related.
3- Sure, you can increase the challenge that way. It's like Oblivion/Skyrim when you are with an endgame character and every ragged thug in the wilderness has super-powerful magic equipment and lots of gold. I find this an... equivocate approach.
People other than the Clanners shouldn't have several Clan mechs. Specially assault Clan mechs. Specially dozens of assault Clan mechs. (OK, MW3 failed in that too)
4- Sure, but and the other factions? It's like they don't exist. MW4 generation barely knows about Kurita, Marik and Liao.
7- What is the good Battletech is indeed debatable...
When I say MW4 ruined a generation of players is because, thanks to that title, we have guys here asking for:
- Black Knights with ballistic hardpoints;
- Timber Wolves with missile racks as independent location from the side torsos;
- Direwolfs with triple Gauss Rifles (one of them in the CT);
- Uziels, Fafnirs, Mad Cat 2s and a lot of designs that are far away from our timeline.
I played a lot of MW4 and MW4:M (the Solaris championship was terrific). But truly, we should forget these games.
Your subjective opinion.

And how the heck did you get the "Stone Cold" title?
That's the Dire Wolf pack levels one I believe.
Like 'the bold' is Kit Fox level. (Even though I have them all, Kit Fox ftw)

Also wondering if the Osprey would qualify for release. It's technically a Star League era design and has 3 pre-3049 variants but it wasn't really utilised by the IS during 3049 (aside from the ComGuard's cache) and only resurfaced during and after the WOB jihad.

technically, since the Osprey was a limited run for the SLDF Royals regiments, no. Those were either destroyed in the Amaris Coupe or taken with the Exodus, and for all intent and purposes, extinct. Even the Comguards had none. (In fact, the Comguards were largely ignorant of the Royal SLDF designs till later)

does it seem odd, or bother anyone else.....
That the Mech designed by Kerensky himself, the Atlas, never got a IIC version from the clans? It had a Royal SLDF Atlas II version, and a Dark Age era Atlas III. Kerensky's personal mech, the obsolete and antiquated Orion gets resurrected with an Orion IIC, but the brainchild of Kerensky, the ride of his closest confidant, commander and best friend, General DeChavalier, the Atlas, the mech that tore the holes in the palace defenses to allow Kerensky's Orion to kick the gates down..... never got a Clan version?
RLY?

Well, he also designed the Devastator and the Clans never even bothered with those. Granted, they only had a couple prototypes to work with, but as evidenced by the Great Wyrm they had the plans for EVERYTHING.
Of course the Exterminator, the personal ride of Kerensky's brother, never got a non-stealth IIC variant and he gave them their precious Zellbrigen.
I think it is mostly because Kerensky has become a, to be frank, cult figure. And speaking of his Orion, why did he leave that behind the first place? Better yet, what was Theodore Kurita thinking piloting it instead of hoarding it in a museum or in the palace for bragging rights?

and why, did that Orion, rebuilt to specs found in the cockpit computers, wind up a stock 1-K? I get they had no advanced tech, but ya know, you think they would have realized that?

That assumes they really did have Kerensky's Orion, as opposed to one he might have piloted in a pinch.
