The Guillotine, Lancelot and Champion are common 'Mechs. Exterminator variants other than the 4A are packed with stealth gear that makes ECM look almost tame. The only one regular IS troops would have access to is the 4A and it is extinct (though despite what Sarna says it is a solid 'Mech. The Excalibur would be the only one truly unique to Comstar. Personally, I prefer the Exterminator, even without all the advanced stealth gear.

OK, updated the list.

Hey, we are getting close to the 1000th post!

One really nice thing about the Succession Wars era is that we've got hundreds of years with conflicts all over the Inner Sphere in which thousands of battles with countless individual mech warriors that haven't been penned to paper.

When you look at it in that setting you have mechs being cannibalized for parts in the field either in the form of won salvage or mechs that were damaged beyond the immediate window for repair. Though not fitting into any official factory variant it would be more common than you would think to replace damaged equipment out in the field with whatever was available. These deviations wouldn't have been done as a luxury but rather a necessity and would likely be corrected back to official factory variants if they were returned to their manufacturing plants (for reasons of tactical doctrine or just seen as inferior) and there likely would be little to no note of them existing unless some event made them famous.

Atleast that is the way I view it. Modifications of a damaged unit make more sense than taking a functioning unit out of service for a custom job.

While I don't even pretend to have the artistic talent to show you what I see after reading this, the picture below comes close enough...

You're looking for 'frankenmechs' or 'phrankenmechs' (I forget the spelling, but it's one of those)

Frankenmech it is.

Looks like a Raven and Marauder had a kid.

That must be a really old design BTW, the Mechwarrior 2 Strategy Guide I have from the 90's shows a Cataphract looking like it does now. Wish I could find a pic :(

Know what the best part of having been an ex-pat the last 2 years is?

No clue about the politics back in the USA, and no cares, really, either. And not having to hear people mouthbreath over politics nonstop. Because let's be honest, most of the public is woefully under informed sheep who just follow whatever their chosen pundits lie about, anyhow.

But I do indeed agree with Happy Patchmas!!!!!!

I know, I know. But for those of us who are informed and pay attention, I'm just glad at another chance to stop the mental retardation.

Anywho.... BRING ON THE PATCH!

Because that has worked out so well the last 7 elections or so?

;)

What can I say? I come from a simpler time, where Politics were a lot less hubris and TV ratings. And even the Public only really knew what the Special Interest Groups wanted them to know. Rich will stay rich, poor will stay poor, and the attack to remove the middle class will continue, until it's back to Lords and Serfs. And the pendulum keeps swinging.

Please don't spoil the Patchmas talking about politics.

Here in Brazil the President Dilma won again, despite all the corruption, lies in the campaign, recession and stupid choices of her government. For more 4 years at least the country will continue its plunge into the pit of the Bolivarism.
It's a mad thing a people chose to live in a Venezuela when they could live in a Canada.

The Gargoyle is the Ice Ferret of the assault class. I am pleasantly surprised by the IFR, so who knows...Gargy may just surprise us too!

I shall attempt to bring this thread back to page one with a legitimate reason instead of just bumping it.....

Has there been any official discussion concerning IIC variants yet? They are Clan obviously but will they count in the parent chassis' skill tree (and one of the three required)?

They could also be their own pack as well. Call it the Clan Garrison Pack or something :). Anyone (Odanan) have a comprehensive list of IIC mechs? I tried looking on Sarna, but didn't see a category and I am at work. Most notable in my mind is the Hunchback IIC. :)
