It's a reasonable and relatively easy to implement choice - most variants come stock with at least (and usually only) one of each weapon type, and hardpoint inflation up to the normal level for Mediums (generally 6-7 hardpoints) makes it a relatively simple matter to create "the energy variant", "the ballistic variant", "the missile variant", and "the all-rounder".

all true, and all true also transferring onto the Vulcan (well, maybe not the missiles, though a Hero with some SSRMs in place of the AC/Medium Laser would be neat, ) and the Vulcan gets JJs! Sentinel would probably get 3rd on my list of 40 tonners, with Vulcan and Assassin before it, in that order.

The VT-5M makes its appearance in 3050, according to the Master Unit List.
The VT-5S makes its appearance in 3050, according to the Master Unit List.

Along with the VL-2T (introduced in 2777) and VL-5T (introduced in 2778), this gives the Vulcan four available variants.

If you say so... I believe! ;)

Vulcan for next medium!

EDIT: But hey: (from Sarna)

Quote

VT-5M - The 5M is an upgrade of the 2T version that makes the 'Mech far more effective in close range combat. The 'Mech uses a Crucis-II Delux chassis and removes the autocannon for a Tronel PPL-20 Large Pulse Laser and also upgrades the Medium Laser to a Tronel XII Medium Pulse Laser. Double heat sinks were also incorporated. This version of theVulcan began production in 3052 and ceased only with the destruction of Nimakachi's Tematagi plant in 3069.

Well, when it comes down to Sarna (a public-driven/edited wiki) vs MUL (maintained by Catalyst Game Labs, the company that currently owns BattleTech) regarding intro dates, I tend to side with the latter.

Well, sarna does list a source for that paragraph. ↑ Technical Readout: 3050 Upgrade, p. 43

Someone who has that book could always check the source.

If that book says 3052, but MUL says 3050... Then how do you decide ;)

There are always inconsistencies in published material. You ever read any of the 1st Ed Battletech sourcebooks and TROs????? (The game was IMO, way better then, but the dates and stuff... geez).

That said, the MUL is the official CGL timeline of all things Mech related, and those lists should be easier to update than the fluff (and cheaper to fix and edit) hence I will go with the MUL as the "final say".

Will point out that even without the 5M we still have 3 variants though, which in the end is all that matters.

New hero mech announcement the Firebrand. It's a Jagermech that if I am not mistaken has the hard points to build it into a rifleman.

The Firebrand armament should look something like this...

2 x LL
2 x AC/5
2 x ML

That will be a fun mech to pilot!

Hmm those in the arms seems to be PPCs and AC2s, while in the RT/LT it looks to have a medium laser. Nothing to die for but more interesting than the other Jagers.

It's nice ot see the hero Jager Rifleman idea got through, altough it also means we won't see unseens for sure.

5 ton heavier rifleman :D

However it's not enough to convince me to bring the jagers back.. I only tried the DD for a while and I found the chassis unviable for me.

At least not Riflemen. Comparing to this Hero Mech, there is no reason (not even aesthetic) to add the Rifleman.

PS: We won't see Unseens anyway (no pun intended). Tough we might see Reseens eventually.

nothing to die for for YOU, my friend. I happen to excel in Jagermechs, and this has me VERY excited. Though I admit, it is hard to skip my DD. (and my Firebrand will likely get woefully neglected once the Victor arrives)

I hope the next Hero 'Mech is the Venom as the Death Knell just doesn't do it for me. The four medium pulse lasers with a speed of 129.6 km/h plus JJ's would make this light 'Mech fun as hell to pilot.

Plus, it would be epic if the Venom had the yellow/black/red paint job as shown on the Anti-Venom Chopper

Has anyone some informations about the new Firebrand JägerMech? Is it a canoncial variant or "made by PGI"?

Looks like entirely "made by PGI", like the Misery.

Given the demon motif around the cockpit and what appears to be the words "From Hell" across the chest, I would guess that the 'Mech is being attributed to Donald "Devil Don" Vincent, a notable JagerMech pilot according to TRO 3025 and TRO 3039.

Based on the picture, the 'Mech appears to mount twin energy weapons (PPCs, or (ER? Pulse?) Large Lasers) and twin ACs in the arms, along with two additional energy weapons in the torso - allowing it to emulate both the classic Rifleman BattleMech (unlikely to appear in the game, due to being Unseen) and the JagerMech III (unlikely to appear in the game, due to only ever having two canonical variants).

EDIT: ninja'd... :) :(

Yeah, but the Misery-Stalker is a little bit canocial, cause J. Elliot Jamison piloted a modified Stalker during the Battle of Misery.

It's supposed to be a take on the personal BattleMech of one J. Elliot Jamison, commander of the Wolf's Dragoons' Zeta Battalion.

The name "Misery" is shared with both the planet Misery (a Combine world, near the Combine's border with the FedSuns), and the Battle of Misery that took place between the Wolf's Dragoons and several DCMS units (specifically: four regiments of Ryuken, the 17th and 21st Galedon Regulars, and the 8th Sword of Light) after the Combine betrayed the Dragoons.

Jamison's unit, the Zeta Battalion, suffered heavy casualties (losing 24 of their 40 MechWarriors and officers).

The details of the story are told in the novel, Wolves on the Border.
