Agreed.

Darn skippy you agree. :P

But there aren't that many good designs left (with 3 variants).

In your opinion. They don't have to be "good" to you. They simply have to appeal to others. Also, "good" is much more than just tonnage and hardpoints and speed. Good can be determined by the quirks given, which they have indicated a desire to expand upon. As for 3 variants, at some point there will have to modify that. OR they limit their potential. Whether that will be a revamp of the pilot efficiencies in UI 2.0 (one can hope) or by adding PGI/ MWO player designed variants.

You see no use for the Crab. Or the BlackKnight. Others really don't care and want those chassis., whether they bring something "new" or not. Have never really seen PGI espouse that argument, so I don't see how it can be a considering factor.
Fact is there are many many people who want Urbanmechs, Vindicators, Crabs, Zeus, Cyclops, Flashman, Black Knights and such, whether you think they are good, or even if they actually would be good. It's called variety. We like it.

You lost me here. I like the same number for all weight classes.

That's sweet and all, but has exactly what to do with what? So because we like symmetry, should there also be the same number of missile launchers as ballistics, and ditto with energy weapons? Does call of Duty make sure there are the same number of knives, handguns and smgs as there are of assault and sniper rifles and missile launchers?

Medium Mechs make up 40% of ALL Mechs used in the Inner Sphere. Due to cost and diversity, it goes to reason that not only would there be more total numbers, but more varieties of them.

Phoenix Hawk is Macross...

AND? The name is not. Just the original art. Art can change. Macross/Studio Nue/Harmony Gold can only sue over images that infringe on that original image. And Harmony Gold is Quite likely about to get ripped a financial new one by Hasbro anyhow. People once said NO Unseen would make it. We have seen that change already. Also, as I said, with any luck.....

Someone woke up cranky today...

They don't need to be good for me, just for the guys making the decisions. That's what I'm trying to figure out.

And they kept the symmetry of classes so far, what makes you think they will change it?

About the Phoenix Hawk... sure, only the design is owned by HG. I believe they will add eventually the Macross mechs, strongly redesigned (as they are some of the best mechs in Battltech). Maybe after (or at the same time of) the Clans - what I'm sure is: they won't add them until the Phoenix Program is over, or they will lose revenue.

FTFY.

In my humble opinion, the Banshee and Cyclops would be better for MWO than King Crab and Zeus. :P

Sorry, Bishop you need to let the Macross go (I know it's hard). PGI wants to avoid dealing with Harmony Gold and I don't blame them. Lawsuits about intellectual property can bankrupt your company! Why should PGI take the risk, it doesn't make sense from a business perspective? There are still plenty of non-Macross designs out there!

This probably won't get seen or answered, but I'm asking anyways, Any chance a Marauder will be in the future?

unfortunately very little chance. But never say never.

Nope not cranky at all. And trying to figure out what is good to the Powers That Be? Insanity. Elseways we would not have the Kintaro over the superior in every way Dervish, Spiders that realistically are only good because of borked hit registration, and largely useless Cicadas.

I think what is "good" is subjective and controllable by hardpoiint distribution and chassis quirks more than TT stats. But guessing what THEY will think is good? :P Not had any alcohol yet, so not even gonna try.

So let's see

Lights (6)
Flea
Locust
Commando
Spider
Jenner
Raven

Mediums (8)
Cicada
Blackjack
Hunchback
Trebuchet
Centurion
Kintaro
Shadow Hawk
Wolverine

Heavies (7)
Dragon
Quickdraw
Catapult
Thunder Bolt
Jagermech
Cataphract
Orion

Assaults (6)
Awesome
Victor
Stalker
Battlemaster
Highlander
Atlas

So we all firmly believe the Banshees gonna make it. With the medium roster "filled out" at the moment the question really is, what will be the final Heavy, Assault (since we figure the Banshee will be one of the final 2) and 2 lights be?

Let us get back on topic! BEGIN!

'Mechs announced and/or implemented (or otherwise known to be in the works) thus far:

20-ton: Flea, Locust
25-ton: Commando
30-ton: Spider
35-ton: Jenner, Raven

40-ton: Cicada
45-ton: Blackjack
50-ton: Hunchback, Centurion, Trebuchet
55-ton: Shadow Hawk, Kintaro, (Wolverine)

60-ton: Dragon, Quickdraw
65-ton: Catapult, JagerMech, Thunderbolt
70-ton: Cataphract
75-ton: Orion

80-ton: Awesome, Victor
85-ton: Stalker, BattleMaster
90-ton: Highlander
95-ton: (none)
100-ton: Atlas

My guesses with regard to the last 'Mechs to be announced prior to Release (on September 17), and assuming eight (8) BattleMech chassis per weight class (for a total of 32 chassis):
Lights: Firestarter, and Javelin or Mongoose
Heavies: Champion, Grasshopper, Guillotine, or Lancelot
Assault: Banshee, and Cyclops or Zeus

Also, for the Hero 'Mech list in the opening post, there is a canonical potential Hero Blackjack in "The Arrow", piloted by Michael Ubodo (of the AFFS/AFFC - a Major as of 3039, and a Leftenant-Colonel as of 3050).

"Best remembered for his actions in defense of Xhosa VII, Ubodo and his Blackjack, “The Arrow,” was given a permanent commission in the Eighth Deneb Light Cavalry. Rising through the ranks to command, Michael has earned the respect of his troops with his easygoing but efficient style of command. Major Ubodo is a great proponent of the maligned Blackjack, and he challenges anyone who criticizes it. He is just as fiercely loyal to his men and to House Davion."
(TRO 3039, pg. 128)

"Only an NAIS cadet when he became the hero of the battle on Xhosa VII during the Third Succession War, Ubodo was assigned to command a lance in the Eighth Deneb Light Cavalry RCT. Continuing to serve with the Eighth, he rose through the ranks, finally reaching the position of executive officer in the ’Mech regiment when Kommandant Jervais was killed during the defense of Blue Hole against the Jade Falcons.
A great proponent of the maligned Blackjack, Ubodo has piloted the “Arrow” since his victory on Xhosa VII. Refitted with new technology, Ubodo and his Blackjack held off several points of Elementals on a headhunter mission during the fighting on Blue Hole."
(TRO 3050U, pg. 48)

32 mechs (8 for each class)... that makes sense. (remember the devs saying they had 32 mechs planned for the game?)

So..

2 more Light mechs:
- Firestarter
- Urbanmech?

1 more heavy:
- Lancelot

2 more assault:
- Banshee
- Zeus or Cyclops

I'm pretty happy with the mechs in the game (even with the Kintaro).

I am gonna guess that the 4 Project Phoenix mechs are not numbered in that 32... from the sound of the interview with FD it was a short turn around thing.

Off topic. If you could have any BattleMech in your backyard when you awake up tomorrow, what would it be?

TimberWolf!!!! The Pryde variant if possible. Would make a fun daily driver and if someone cuts me off I could just step on them or kick them.

Locust.

And then I start second guessing and a whole battalion of alternatives spring to mind. Gonna stick with the first thought.

Naw.

You see, THAT paint job actually looks good. HEnce there is no way it would ever be a PGI accepted paint scheme.
