Hmm... 4 more IS mechs? Even better! (so we can have both Zeus and Cyclops along with the Banshee)

I have never seen this side of the Blacklanner before... :)

I am gonna guess that the 4 Project Phoenix mechs are not numbered in that 32... from the sound of the interview with FD it was a short turn around thing.

Back from a short break... Are you freaking sure? Nice... More mechs to destroy!

Timber Wolf

Sorry, but I feel that she is the 'Mech for me.

I would still love to see an old favorite of mine added in the assault class. The Thug is a big, ugly brute and would fit well into the game.

Possibilities for assault 'Mechs:
Thug-good candidate
Hatamoto-Chi
Banshee-good candidate
Rampage
Cyclops-good candidate
Ymir-Interesting candidate
Imp-good candidate
Thunder Hawk-first Arrow IV 'Mech if added
King Crab-very, very, very, very longshot

There is a Catapult variant with Arrow IV. (I don't know if they will ever add it to the game tough)

BTW I played MW2, so Timber Wolf has a special place in my heart. Armor, Speed and Firepower in a single, beautiful package.

If I had a 'mech pop up in the backyard, I'd hope it'd be a Kodiak if Clan but a Templar or Orion if Inner Sphere.

Actually it's a horrible candidate as it doesn't have the requisite three variants available in this time period.

Built off the Thug and a better 'mech. Has enough variants and looks cooler.

Needs some serious hardpoint love before it'll be any good. That said, most 'mechs get additional hardpoints if they're underpowered horribly.

Isn't produced anymore.

Excellent candidate, especially if they add ECM on it or finally add function to the Command Console.

Same issue as the Rampage. Stopped being produced in 2648.

Not currently being produced, also not enough variants. Would be sexy though.

They'd have to figure out how to fit the AC's in the arm with how the current mechanics work. Would be neat to see a redesign visually.

The IS Arrow IV launcher, by itself, takes up fifteen (15) criticals.
The greatest number of free criticals any 'Mech has in any section is twelve (12).

Unless PGI either 1.) allows for crit-splitting (unlikely, but technically possible) or 2.) reduces the critical requirement for the Arrow IV launcher (a possibility and easier to do than implementing crit-splitting, but sets a very, very bad precedent), there will very probably be no IS Arrow IV 'Mechs in-game.

On the other hand, the Clan Arrow IV launcher requires only twelve (12) criticals.
I don't really see PGI giving only the Clans the Arrow IV launcher (especially since AOE weapons like the Arrow IV, while not unheard of among the Clans, are largely anathema to the Clan ideals of warfare)...? :P

True. PGI could fix this mess if they made 3PV restricted to training and testing grounds only. That would benefit both camps by helping new players get used to 'Mech movements while keeping true to the MechWarrior experience, which is strictly 1PV.

sadly, true. SLDF Royal Brigades units were scarce as hen's teeth, and either mostly destroyed in the Amaris Coupe and War, or left in the Exodus. As much as I love the THUG, it's hard point's are lacking majorly in variety, too.

Built off the Thug and a better 'mech. Has enough variants and looks cooler.
Agreed that the variety is much better? As for looks/potential? I dunno, kinda hoping to avoid Gundams in MWO.

Not terribly familiar with the "S" series of Banshees, I presume?

BNC-3S - The 3S was Defiance Industries' attempt to turn the Banshee[into a typical assault 'Mech, replacing the bulky GM engine with a lighter Pitban 285. While this reduces its maximum speed to 54 km/h, it also frees up a great deal of room for weapons. The 'Mech is armed with two PPCs for long range, an Imperator-B Autocannon/10t o engage an enemy at intermediate ranges, four Magna Mk II Medium Lasers and a Harpoon SRM-6[ launcher for short-range combat, and finally a second Small Laser to round out the weapons payload. Five more heat sinks were added, though overheating remains a problem, and its armoring remains the same"

and the 3M could be an interesting PPC sniper. (OK, that term may be an oxymoron)

Isn't produced anymore.
No tears shed here.

Amen. Would be the PERFECT opportunity for them to make Role Warfare and the Module concept truly hit home, by making it have an expanded role based off those, Command Console and the such. Hence I doubt it will happen, judging by the total brain fart that IS this latest patch.

Same issue as the Rampage. Stopped being produced in 2648.
Not exactly true, as the 3A version was created and available starting in 2733, being updated and outfitted with SLDF tech levels. That said, dues to it's other forms being either "Primitive" or "Experimental". Kinda sad, too, as I always like the chassis.

Needs a SERIOUS visual update, however, ha.

Not near as sexy as a Pillager would be though. And If PGI is scared of dual Ballistic Assaults, am thinking triple balistics is definitely not on their agenda.

easily accomplished. They have the restricted fire arcs anyhow, and at least for the foreseeable future, hands give no functional use in MWO. Follow the example of the Catapult, and make the claws do EXACTLY what they are described for in the TRO: Act as armored covers for the barrels. Hence, no need for actuators, as the Catapult does not use them for it's covers, so the precedent is set.

as for redesigns, I would agree:

Concept art by Bishop Steiner, 3D render work by Kiriage~San, with consultation by me. Call me arrogant, but at 12 meters in height, but completely suicidal to run an XL in, I think this would break the monotony of the current line-up and the "humanoid brick" look, rather nicely, yes? The CT is tiny, and the mech can carry as much armor as an Atlas, with weapons mounted on the top well suited for defilade fire, but keeping th e"OP" ballistics arms in a position that balances their power more or close combat. So, some intentional weaknesses designed into the mech.

just a few thoughts on your well thought out post, bro!

Wrong. Every game 2 through 4 had 3PV.

Hatamoto-chi: Considering Flyingdebris and his ability with making 'mechs look amazing in MW:O, I don't think you should fear the "Gundam" effect.

Banshee: I'm familiar with the S series, but the base model hardpoints need some lovin'!

Thunderhawk: Yea, I have no illusion of them ever bringing a triple ballistic assault 'mech out or wanting to for a long long time.

As for the King Crab, I know how they can fix their issue...but it's PGI we're talkin' about. If they don't have to address it now, they won't, and that means the King Crab is off the radar for the foreseeable future realistically. I've got nothing against the design personally, other then I'd like to see other assaults in the game before it. If it makes it in, not going to be upset either. Though if it does make it in it'd be neat if they added the Crab at the same time. We could make banners...MW:O! NOW WITH MORE CRABS! GIVE THEM TO YOUR SON, DAUGHTER, BEST FRIEND, MOTHER!!!

I would love the Panther, but have a feeling it would be bloody awful with it's ridiculous low speed. In Stock v Stock matches it would do OK, but against custom jobs? Sadly, I think it dies.

The Mirage would not be a Hero, so much as one of the available stock variants of the FS9. I would LOVE to see the Firestarter in game. And I do think it has a couple unique, bloodthirsty pilots listed in the TRO.

Yeah, the Panther is one of those designs which really gets buggered hard by the way MWO works compared to tabletop. In order for a stock Panther not to be a deathtrap in MWO you'd pretty much have to remove the mechlab and probably also drop the increased armor values. The Panther's main claim to fame in TT was that it was a light carrying a seriously heavy gun (one of the few who could) which could ruin another light's day in a single shot if it connected. That's not really the case with PPCs in MWO which makes the Panther far less of a threat than it should be according to lore.

If customization was not an option then it would be far more viable.

If there wasn't double armor/structure, Panther would be more viable.

In this aspect, Panther is similar to the Vindicator: an excellent mech in TT for its size - excelling in armor, capable of jumping and packing a great weapon (PPC), all this in detriment of speed. But in MWO, speed is the lifeblood of the small mech.

Yup. A PPC shot would cripple destroy most Lights, depending on where it connected, the Wolfhound being one of the few to be able to take one straight up. Yet in TT, we regularly see Lights nailed with MULTIPLE PPC, Gauss or AC20 shots and run off nearly unscathed.

nailing a Commando, center mass with 2 AC20 shot, even with double armor, should be insta death. Makes me wonder if they aren't leaving hit registration borked intentionally.
