in what universe was the Firefly actually useful, again? (Aside from the one that Malcolm Reynolds owns?)

Well, when I started playing this game a year ago, the same was said about the Spiders. I see a lot of pilots pulling they weight in Spiders (and not only in 5D), so Firefly wouldn't be a totally useless, unless it comes with severely capped engine limit.

Spiders were nearly impossible to hit for sometime, so yes, they were not useless (even if the chassis is very poor).

Firefly WILL be severely capped engine limit because the engine cap is based on the engine of the stock mech, which is actually very small.

As for Spiders - problem started around the time HSR was introduced - they were hard to hit before, but only because of their size & silhouette. As for Firefly - PGI already upped engine caps on non-3L Ravens, and it's not unreasonable to expect that there could be some more things going for them in near future (module revamp?)

We shouldn't dismiss outright mechs that don't fit current meta/gameplay - especially since difference in results between cheese-meta builds and chassis that are considered sub-par (Dragon, Awesome, Commando...) stems mainly from higher level of skill needed to achieve similar results, not from the quality of mechs themselves.

(At least in PUG enviroment)

is it possible? Sure. Would I bank on it? Nope. And either they trash the entire engine cap system, or they need to stop selectively enforcing it.

Selective enforcing engine caps makes sense - they are already fairly limited in balancing mechs against each other.

then they really need to open it up for the Locust, since as the smallest mech without JJs, it's at a serious handicap in all other ways, yes?

Well, why not? They could bump it again a little, if performance allowed it.

Locust needs better hardpoints. The only chance of the little bug is to be untouchable (like the Spider was).

Didn't they have a vote sometime last year about what assault to bring in, and the Banshee won it handsomely?

(I'd find it myself, but the forum search function plain sucks, and google with 'site:mwomercs.com' for some reason tends to not show dev threads).

It would be nice to see the Banshee in around 2 or 3 months... but really, we might have just a couple of unannounced mechs showing up in 2014... not much room for speculation.

It ends up like this:

View PostOdanan, on 27 June 2012 - 10:48 AM, said:

- Battlemaster, 85 tons assault mech (15 October for Phoenix Project, 22 January for C-Bills)
- Griffin, 55 tons medium mech (17 December for Phoenix Project, 18 February for C-Bills)
- Wolverine, 55 tons medium mech (17 December for Phoenix Project, 18 March for C-Bills)
- (April) Flea, 20 tons light mech - but hopefully a truly useful light mech, the Firestarter.
- (May) Waiting for the Banshee!
- Uller, 30 tons light mech (17 June)
- Black Hawk, 50 tons medium mech (17 June for Clan Collection, July? for C-Bills)
- Thor, 70 tons heavy mech (17 June for Clan Collection, August? for C-Bills)
- Daishi, 100 tons assault mech (17 June for Clan Collection, September? for C-Bills)
- Puma, 35 tons light mech (17 June for Clan Collection, October? for C-Bills)
- Ryoken, 55 tons medium mech (17 June for Clan Collection, November? for C-Bills)
- Mad Cat, 75 tons heavy mech (17 June for Clan Collection, December? for C-Bills)
- Masakari, 85 tons assault mech (17 June for Clan Collection, January, 2015? for C-Bills)

This thread, die? :D
NEVER - The Ultimate 'Mech Discussion Thread (of ultimate destiny 'Mech-gasm) is eternal!

Also: new Hero 'Mech tomorrow?!
Will it be the "controversial, humanoid Light"?
Will it be the long-awaited Hero Hunchback?
Or, something else entirely?

I tell you something... tomorrow would be nice indeed.

Even if it's just the January hero mech (Quickdraw or Hunchie).

Talking about the Urbie, what was the outcome of the "Pimp my Mech" contest?

havent heard anything.

But since it's "DEvs Choice" and they seldom seem to get the marketing aspect, I figure they choose whatever is easiest to code, not what would be most popular.

Yours was pretty popular but I was not sure if it was the most popular. Hopefully it is what they choose, and I will probably be picking it up right after. Otherwise they will probably miss out on some more income. We are going to see how much PGI listens with tomorrows hero mech.
