wish they'd stop doing the Urbie Style Countdowns. It was fun, original and kinda cool for Urbie, but feels pretty blah and forced on pretty much everything else. (and seriously, who gets excited over titles and badges?)

Sorry, MW4 fans, but the Night Gyr is not only the bigger brother but the better brother.
Still, PGI might find a niche for the Nova Cat with some good energy quirks.


Actually not really.

The Nova Cat has much higher arms in the artwork than the Gyr, obviously hugely useful in this game. Tbh id call them the highest mounted actuated arms in the game.

The Night Gyr has no lower arm actuators possible on any arm, whereas the Nova Cat does have some LAAs, and the Cat-C has actually got 3B and 10 slots in the RA, with the LA having 2E and a LAA = triple fully actuated UAC5s. No other mech can do that, and lateral arm actuation for Clan UACs is incredibly useful.

They would both be decent, but id much rather have the Nova Cat.

Buried somewhere in the forum, unfortunately.

I think there is a new webdesigner working on PGI now, so things might improve soon.

Which is (sort of) fine - it would just become like the WHK-A right arm, in that it is essential for most builds.

Of course, what PGI SHOULD do is allow LAAs on ANY clan Omnimech arm that doesn't currently have a PPC or Ballistic in it (and has the graphics for it - no LAAs on Ebon Jags for example). It wouldnt make anything OP.

I don't think the Nova Cat's arm weapons are really much (if any) higher than those of the Night Gyr.

The TRO line art is difficult to use with regard to drawing a good comparison between the two, as the Night Gyr's line art is looking at the body from a mostly-vertical angle rather than a relatively head-on view.

From head-on views of the miniatures, we can see that the weapon mounts on the Nova Cat are actually relatively low (which is actually reflected in the line art, as well), and that both 'Mech's arm-mounted weapons are closer to waist-level than what would usually be considered to be "high-mounted".

Also, the only Nova Cat config that has any lower arm actuators is Alt. Config. C, which has a full actuator set (including a hand) in the left arm (along with two LPLs); all of the rest, like the Night Gyr configs, lack actuation (and even that left arm on the C would lose actuation if one stuck a PPC in there).
And I'm pretty sure that Victor/Highlander-style restriction on horizontal arm movement (from a LAA in one arm and no LAA in the other arm) is a far cry from "fully actuated".

One thing that hasn't been touched on but is clear to me; the arms on both mechs would make great shields/help spread DMG. Even though the NC has a beer belly, it's arms mostly cover it.

Well, the arms on the Gyr are higher than i thought, but id definitely still say the NC would have higher ones - its quite a big part of its design ethos that it has no visible upper arm, which isnt the case for the Gyr. It doesnt matter than its only 1 arm on the NC with actuation, since that arm exists it would just be always used (unless PGI didnt release the C variant, but in that case the NC is nothing like as good and i wouldn't buy it)

And you are wrong about the 50% (1 LAA) actuation being a 'far cry' from full actuation - it is NOT the distance the arms can move from the torso that is important for that, its the speed of tracking, which you get 100% of with only 1 LAA (50% of the distance, 100% of the speed compared to 2 LAAs) - and for clan ACs its so useful id argue its as good as high torso mounts, try the HGN-IIC-C for an example (the only mech currently in existence able to run 2 Clan UACs with lateral actuation, since there are no Omnis with 2+ B slots in one arm currently)

Guess why no one usses a MLX its only wepaons in arms, arms of paper thing armor. LOL the ultimate fail concept of a mech. if it had a few hardpoints in some of the torso pods poeple would use it more often.
