what's bad about the woodsman? Decent loadout, and several high hardpoints. STs might be a little big, but hey, the Orion is just crying a river for it, lol.

oh and just cuz

That's the only way a Spartan Archer should be painted.

just no more balistic 40-45 toners...Vindicator is terrible and I do not see Phoenix Hawk being better even MASC or ECM variants...BJ will still rox 45t bracket

Vidicator and PHX are NOT, I repeat, NOT ballistic mechs. When we get the Vulcan and Clint (pooh on Hermes, I say!), then we will have ballitic 40/45 tonners.

It has a nice AC, but it's probably never going ot be in game because of that melee issue.

I know...

But they are a nice Solaris VII Mech in TT, well switch out the AC/10 for a LB-10X, and laugh all the way to the bank.

Penetrator would cater to the current Meta tryhards, for sure. Pure upgrade to the BK and Hopper.

Bandersnatch, Crusader and Lancelot, IMO are the most interesting of the remaining IS heavies.

Assassin, Vulcan and Dervish all could add a lot to the IS Mediums, though Dervish would require a made up variant, and some serious hardpoint tinkering to keep from being as androgynous as many recent offerings. Bushwacker of course is a fan favorite that can fit in timeline, now.

As for the Nightstar, a couple things, virtually no mech was truly extinct, overall, because of ComStar's hidden army. That said, it likely was extinct to the rest of the IS, because it was only produced for 19 years, was produced for the SLDF, so most likely went on the Exodus, and in regard to the Clan Invasion era, that's the 9FC, first produced in 3057, which falls into the window of 3050-3061, which is considered the Clan INvasion, whereas the original 9J is expressly considered Star League era.

Definitive, 100%? No. But pretty much everything points to it being extinct outside of Comstar. Even Shelly Brubaker's machine, from the battle of coventry is listed as a 3057 one modified with Clan Tech, so doubtful even the famous Dragoon's Cache contained any.

ComStar had Nightstars pre clan invasion

I like the Lancelot too but fear it'd obsolete the Rifleman, aside from quirks. I'd prefer the Anvil now.

Yes. I believe I said that. And only Comstar. In small numbers.

Are Comstar mechs not an option? We had Tuk, it's 3053. Comstars army isn't a secret anymore. Why should it matter if CS is the only faction with Nightstars?

Thanks! Still don't know how to do layers and masks and such, so I got many levels to go, but it's appreciated.

what's bad about the woodsman? Decent loadout, and several high hardpoints.

The base config is a tad sub-par. The engine is a STD300, and the armor is STD armor (not FF).

The end pod space is 26.5 tons.

That's not bad in and of itself, however it comes at the cost of being slower than the other Clan heavies. Usually, slow Clan heavies like the Night Gyr or Nova Cat gain more firepower in exchange for slower speed, but the Woodsman has roughly equal-ish firepower (perhaps slightly less if we account for hardwired DHS) as EBJ/TBR for less speed.

I guess it would still compare favorably against some mechs like your beloved Thor, but it doesn't really gain anything for its speed loss due to using that STD engine.

The one bright side is that it has MASC, which is better now than it used to be...

The Woodsman will always be a Poor's Man Timber Wolf.

It could appear as the light of the next IIC pack (instead of the Locust IIC) or the light of a third IIC pack.

2nd IIC pack: Locust IIC (25 tons), Griffin IIC (40 tons), Rifleman IIC (65 tons), Marauder IIC (85 tons) - all "Unseen" pack.

3rd IIC pack: UrbanMech IIC (30 tons), Shadow Hawk IIC (45 tons), Guillotine IIC (70 tons) [the Guillotine's "redemption", even if not IS], Warhammer IIC (80 tons).

Phoenix Hawk IIC (80 tons) looks cool, but it is completely different (and almost double the size) of the original IS mech.

There are other IIC mechs, but mostly too rare and not as interesting (Commando IIC, Wolfhound IIC, Clint IIC and Wyvern IIC).

depends a lot on hitboxes (something Twolf pilots love to whine about "not being good", lol) and hardpoint placement.
