He said Cougars not Dragon Ladies....

The advantages of Cougars is they know what they want, and are not interested in playing the stupid games that young women (read 16-28) like to play.

Anyways back to the mechs now, before Odanan goes postal on us....

I know it's dark-age, but I kind of want to to complete me set...

Cougar was the first Clan Mech you encountered in MW4, in the mission where you had to fight some Clanner dude in a Summoner.

Starting mech I´m pretty sure was a Shadow Cat.

Shadow Cat also happens to be a Clan Mech. Or do you mean the first Clan Mech you fight against?

Well in Mercs your first Clan mechs you face, well depending what planet you hit first was either I think Hellbringers on the last mission on Eaton or on Halloran V an Adder in the first mission (have yet to salavage it though in any play through :/)

Same goes for a mission later on when you attack a chain of Defiance Industry planets in a valley (not the Fafnir mission). There are like 2 or 3 Mk II through out that mission and yet to salvage any of them, but usually come off with several Timbers,Mad Dogs, and Black Knights though....still I always try and try and try again to see if it's possible.

I want them to add more of the Star League mechs like the champion, thug, nightstar, etc. Do it in a pack and get a chunk out of the way before they move the time forward.

I would love a Star League Mech Pack, because there are so many options (also valid for single Mech releases, minus canon heroes). In fact, with all these options a Mech pack might be valid for once:

Some notes:
  • "ComStar-exclusive" means that the Mech is only available to ComStar as of 3053; it is not a deal breaker, after the last TH, but it is also not a plus.
  • "Not enough canon variants" means that the Mech does not have enough variants which are possible with the current tech in MWO.

Assault:
  • Spartan: ultimate cavalry Mech, though uninspiring variants
  • Nightstar: meta-overlord, though not enough canon variants and ComStar-exclusive
  • Thunderhawk: Adam Steiner’s later ride, might allow for some dakka, but has the same problems the NSR has, i.e. not enough canon variants and ComStar-exclusive
  • Longbow: the LRM-overloard, but considering what PGI did to the Archer I would be careful with this wish...
  • Pillager: a 100 ton jump capable Mech, but again not enough canon variants and ComStar-exclusive
The list could easily go on with Thug, Striker etc., but I think it is apparent that there are a lot of viable options for SL-era assault Mechs if one is a bit more liberal when it comes to variants and availability as of 3053.

(I was tempted to put the Devastator on the list, but I did not because it was only in prototype stage when the SL fell. It would be a good choice too, though.)

Heavy:
  • Excalibur: excellent cavalry Mech (up to XL400 on a 70 ton chassis) with a fresh combination of ballistics and missiles, though uninspiring variants
  • Lancelot: a smaller and faster Black Knight, with very interesting variants
  • Cestus: effectively a smaller Marauder, for better or for worse; ok variants but ComStar-exclusive
  • Shootist: arm-mounted AC/20 with good back-up weaponry, though not enough canon variants and ComStar-exclusive
Again the list could go on, but many of the available options are more or less redundant (Grasshopper and Guillotine e.g.). The most interesting option, the Exterminator, would be a bit pointless without new tech, i.e. the NSS and CLPS. I think the Excalibur is clearly the best choice, being a refreshingly different design from what we currently have.

Medium:
  • Sentinel: now that the 35 ton Mechs are a lot bigger, the 40 ton bracket is more interesting; good variants and diverse armament options, super ugly though
  • Wyvern: cool looking and well-armed with good variants, but really slow
  • Chameleon: archetypical medium Mech, bland but effective
  • Starslayer: a bit like a humanoid, jump capable Crab with more diverse weaponry
  • Lynx: jump capable energy boat, though uninspiring variants and ComStar-exclusive
The options for medium Mechs are interesting. I personally lean to the Sentinel hoping that Alex can give it a nice makeover.

Light:
  • Spector: fast, jumpy, ECM, and lots of energy HP; however not enough canon variants
  • Night Hawk: more or less a Wolfhound with ECM, but extinct
  • Mercury: a Locust with MASC, might be interesting after the rescaling, ComStar-exclusive
  • Hussar: interesting variants but most are extremely HP limited
There are more, but again they do not really add much imho. I think the Lights are the weak site of this pack. Despite all the lore problems, especially the missing variants, I would take the Spector; with the new scaling it might not be as scary as before, but still very potent.

SL/ComStar could offer something for sure interesting. I am curious though, due to Russ mentioning he is fairly close to releasing future mechs, assuming that since the Mk II's name was dropped as am example being possibly thought ofas one of the first, what other future mechs could be added that fit the current weapons tech? That have several viable varriants.

Nova Cat
Cougar

A good list but you forgot one of the best ComStar meds, the Rajin (3052 production date) http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Raijin

It's CS exclusive & most variants use tech that's not in game & they're similar but it's combo of lasers & missiles plus all hi mounts make it worth considering.

No i think the Cougars firstappearancee was MechCommander Demo in 1998.
And like the MW4 cougar it doesn't hat much in common with the TRO3060 Cougar (the MechCommander Cougar had 27m/s aka 6/9 movement)

The Raijin would be nice, no doubt. I excluded it because it is no Star League era-Mech, and I was exploring the idea of a SL Mech Pack.
In a ComStar Mech Pack, the Raijin would be easily one the best choices (minus the variants), because it is fast, bird-like (seems to be a advantage after the rescale), and offers a good combo of energy and missile hardpoints.

Well, technically you could do the arm-mounted AC/20 plus energy backup with the JägerMech, but only if going for anti-canonic builds.
With the Shootist you could run a canon or close to canon build with AC/20 in the arms, and PGI would/should give it dedicated AC/20 quirks.

Regarding Apollyon... I don't think we know what he did in 3053 (probably hiding on Jardine), however his Mech's stats have not been canonically revealed. The canon rumours are insane though: HPG cannon. This most likely BS but being a MD commander, he probably had C3i mounted which we don't have in MWO.
I personally would not like it anyway. I really hate the MD; I was a WoB fan before they came along.

Nonetheless, as of 3053, I am a Wobbie, and I would like some WoB content. And some ComStar content. Generally content from factions that are not in game (without actually making them a faction): Hero Mechs, war horns and cockpit items, and decals.
The first step is done with a Nova Cat hero.

Did you get hit in the head really hard?

The advantage that the Piranha would have is that you could dump the ERSL and ERML for more ammo, keep the stock 10 SHS and not worry about the 'heat' from 12 MG's going off.... so right there, that's 3t of ammo for 12 MG's, should be more than enough to eat something from behind.

As for PGI inventing more than one variant, the:

MAL-1P
MAL-2P
MAL-MX90

All say hi, none of those are canon Maulers. Though you could argue that the MX90 is actually the http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Daboku

No, I did not.

Not particularly concerned with the Piranhas advantages or disadvantages. I'd run it anyway for lolz. The MGs look fun, but PGI's gotta add variants. I'm fine if they do, don't particularly care if they leave it out.

I don't have Maulers (yet, been waiting for sale), and haven't researched them much besides. I'm geeky, but my references are limited to what I can dredge up online, assuming I'm paying enough attention to go check. Haven't cyber stalked the Maulers.

Good data anyway, thanks for adding to my knowledge base. If PGI feels like inventing a few variants, I'd enjoy piloting a few of those light chassis we've been kicking around.

I have salvaged that particular Adder once out of something like 300-400 play throughs, you have better odds of salvaging one of the Hellhounds in the artillery escort mission on Halloran V than salvaging the Adder.

A couple things get me thinking about Stinger/Wasp again.

First, despite all its potential flaws, the Phoenix Hawk model looks AMAZING, and I have every confidence of a Stinger and a Wasp worked based on that model also being some of the best-looking 'mechs in the game.

Second, after the rescale, we're now in a situation where the ubiquitous 35-tonner laser boats are finally appropriately bigger compared to 20-tonners (currently Locust). Might this give sufficient edge to a 20-tonner humanoid with excellent hit-boxes, to get at least some of us to pilot the thing?

A quick theory-craft of my beloved STG-3G -- built into a LCT-1E, with gauss ammo for JJ -- makes me think it'd be a blast to pilot.

Looking good, but you don't need those 6 jump jets. Maybe you could replace 4 of them for 2 extra DHS?

Depends on play style, I find lights and mediums leverage their JJs pretty well with more.

It's just a thing I do with my 'mechs: generally always max JJ. I mainly pilot mediums and below, so I get to use the JJ's that actually work in this game. I love a 'mech that really takes off when I hit my JJ's. Posted Image

I can't help but feel how much of a nightmare the Stinger/Wasp will be to hit because of JJs and the new 20 ton scaling.

Well, if those follow the pattern of the rescale, they should be taller than the Locust, but slimmer from the side right? Could be very difficult to hit when twisting.
I would play those Posted Image
