Well the thing that I don't understand is if Phil said it was earlier models of the Warhammer and Timberwolf, then why the heck does that IS Warhammer have double missile pods for each of it's shoulders? Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe there is a single IS Warhammer variant that has dual missile pods. *snip*

Well, the Warhammer 7S does have a SSRM2 in each torso. EDIT: We even have this variant in MWO.

Also, if those NGNG models are done by someone else, is it the same person who was doing models for a Battletech game they were trying to make themselves? I'm certainly willing to believe that they're just someone else's interpretation or fan art of some mechs.

It just occurred to me that perhaps the event listing of two mechs on August 31st is actually a typo. Matt's post hinting at the factions of the upcoming mech packs mentions that the October Clan mech will be also included in the bonus loot bags, however the event page currently does not mention an October mech. I think that the second August 31st mech was supposed to be listed as October something but PGI dun derped on their keyboards.

I hope that's not the case but it feels like it will go that way. :\

So two mechs tomorrow? I am really concerned with mechs' quality. Last time PGI released more than 1 mech per month, quality suffered heavily.

If that's the case then they've copy/pasted that typo multiple times and paid no attention to it. Everything regarding bonus redeems has been moved to the actual event page and it still says two mechs to be announced tomorrow. I guess we'll just have to see.

Will they drag it out until this afternoon, or do you all think we'll have some news this morning?

Trapezoidal missile bays? Why? This is an abomination.

I'd have rather had the Thug than the Hatamoto, but it is thematic for the Turtle Bay event. Regardless, you can see how they tried to maintain as much similar geometry between the models as possible. While they're both unique, I'm sure they were able to develop the second (likely the Hatamoto) for less than the first (likely the Charger).

It'll be interesting to see what variants they chose for each, as well as to get a closer look at the artwork.

While they all look quite viable, there are already a few standouts to me:

Charger 1A5 is going to be STRONG with those kind of shield arms and all torso/head hardpoints.

Lucky Seven has great lore; and it's going to be interesting with only 1 less E hardpoint than the base variant but with added jumpjets.

Hatamoto 28TR has both ECM and jumpjets, but it's going to need those to make up for the sub-300 max engine.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with quirks and hardpoint locations/geometry.

In case someone is interested... the Charger hero is MechWarrior Terry Ford:

"Once considered the luckiest MechWarrior in the Successor States, Ford piloted the “Number Seven” up until his rather unlucky death during a raid with the Ninth Illician Rangers. Notorious for surviving hits that would’ve destroyed Atlases and Banshees in droves, Ford refused to allow anyone to repair his ’Mech aside from himself and an astech. The Seven was upgraded numerous times but never performed at optimal efficiency—partly due to Ford’s meager technical skills. The Seven’s luck fi nally ran out when Ford leapt off an embankment intent on giving a Sorenson’s Sabres Longbow a “Highlander Burial.” Instead, the gyro overreacted to the freefall and Ford managed to send the Seven into a tremendous face plant that took his life.

The Seven was claimed as salvage by the Sabres but despite a complete rebuild, it was plagued incessantly with constant glitches, malfunctions, and errors. The Seven eventually disappeared from the Sabres’ roster—one rumor has the pilot-less Seven “accidentally” falling out of a DropShip during a combat drop drill."

(TRO:3039)

Reading that, it's kind of ironic to give the hero Mech JJ in MWO...

The Hatamoto-Chi is probably that of Daniel Sorenson, and it seems to be based on his second Mech with some MWO adjustments.

I think the Charger is a sensible choice. I am not totally happy with its head but I'll wait for the 3d-model. I'd love to get my hands on the CGR-1A1.
The Hatamoto-Chi on the other hand... I am a Steiner loyalist. This Mech is target practice.

Frankly the two slow Hats really should have their cap raised to at least 300 considering that all of the slow Awesome variants have 300 despite having the same stock engines as those two slow Hats.

Agreed. While I'm not fond of PGI's previous trend of giving every mech absurdly huge max engines, they don't need to go to another extreme of being too stingy. 300 is a nice solid engine rating and I think it'd be fine to give the Charger and Hatamoto that on their slow variants. After all, the Awesome resides in an era when PGI gave out pretty reasonable engine caps.

I'm the exact opposite. I like the way it's been changed. It feels like it fits the body more and gives it a beefier overall feel.

Very much this. ^

(also, I'm disappointed they didn't give the Charger one variant with MASC)
