How they deal with that in game I'll leave up to the devs to find a way to limit the advantages that view allows, maybe my jump jets are too slow for jump sniping, maybe my weapons don't aim quickly enough in flight to make it a viable strategy, I am all for limiting tactical advantages that make it unfair for others.
I'd like to see the mech crash through a building, I want to see the impact damage from enemy fire, we're all impressed with the artwork and style that is going into the game, we want to have destructible terrain, but then we don't want to be able to fully appreciate it because we're forced into a limited view by some people that are afraid of advantages that were in a totally different game?
Meh, give me options, then figure out a way to make said options fair to everyone (and yes, fair might be you have the option as well, just because you don't want to use it, doesn't make it a 'tactical advantage').
Just saying.

Maybe have a replay/saved movie system, like in Halo. That way players can check out how cool they look without breaking gameplay with a third person point of view.

Um, yes, they do - how else would they have been able to feed '360 of video into the cockpit if they didn't have cameras mounted all the way around?
The viewports aren't the primary way a 'Mechwarrior gains visual information about the battlefield - they're secondary to the sensor feeds in information content.

3pv is easy to balance - you just don't render anything your 'Mechs sensors or pilot cannot see; and if it's only a crummy sensor contact, you should only get something like, maybe a wireframe ala Mech commander 2 sensor contacts.
No peeking over hills, no peeking around corners, no seeing anything that a 'Mech pilot can't see in his cockpit.

Not what I've proposed, nor the justification for what I've posted.
The Over the head or shoulder view (properly balanced) is there for players who would like to play that way and get to see their 'Mechs in action and in some place other than the 'Mechlab.

the real story is what we will get U.A.V.? MAG-SCAN, HEAT VISION, 360 degree view all fitted into that cockpit, lets hope for multi screen display and multiple joystick controls

The answer is still perfectly simple.
This is a GAME ... there should be two options set by the server controls ... one to set the view to FP only so that all the die hard sim players can't whine about someone cheating using 3rd person ... and another server option that allows the use of 3rd person view.
There ... simple no matter which way you look at it when you join a server set by view then all have the same advantages and disadvantges ...
Not too difficult really ... was it now?

Howdy SC.
Of course it was too difficult!

Normally Im all about the "make it a server option" but on this I disagree with you. This is the kind of option that degrades the game experience for everyone. If you allow it as an option, 90% of the players will be in the 3rd servers and the rest in the FFP servers because there will always always be the 3rd people who dont care about the experience and just want to win using every unrealistic advantage possible.
The mech combat experience could be either 3rd or FFP but not both. I can play either way but I agree that FFP is more challenging and realistic and I enjoy ffp games more. 3rd, while fun to see my mech, is more arcadey to me. Since this game is about realistim (time line, mechs, salvage, houses and mercs etc..) then 3rd person would be a mistake. FFP all the way.

If you really think its that big of a deal.. Make it a game option set up.. NOT server.. If you want to set an option for cockpit only, fine.. Just like im sure there are tons of other options, like limited ammo, or limited what ever..
But to say it should be banned from a server, or not even in the game,, Is just selfish
that would be like me saying, I hope they dont have multi-monitor support cause someone with 3 monitors would have a HUGE advantage over me..
People get motion sick, and vertigo, plain and simple.. . to say it should be cockpit only for some null advantage just seems silly and honestly quite selfish.
Besides, its still a first person shooter, if the camera is sitting just up and behind a mech.. Cause a 3rd person shooter would mean someone else would be playing the game and you watching..

3rd person gave so much advantage in previous titles that it wasn't even an "option", it was "no handicap". The only acceptable compromise would be "3rd person allowed servers" (barely acceptable, since it would fracture the community between FPP and TPP'ers), where like-minded people could gather and everyone entering accepts that everyone else is playing in TPP.
If it was just an in-game option, those who like 1st person would be severely disadvantaged because of how field of view works. TPP would be the only option for anyone looking for an edge (which is, pretty much everyone in such an environment). I'm glad it's supposed to be first person only.

I think you're misunderstanding things. It's "third person perspective", it means "displaying the action as if perceived by someone else than the protagonist". In most cases, behind his back. Not "playing for someone".
1st person all the way, with delicious, customized cockpit graphics.

Cameras in the cockpit to view the sides and rear, but you have to activate them (look at them) and as such lose view to other angles.
To be vain, sit and spin in the mech hanger before and after matches. Have a built in battle recorder so you can watch yourself with a chase camera between matches.
This solves all the problems and lets folks have first person which I believe allows for a bit more of a sim environment since they have said that your pilot avatar is the persistent part of this game.

Ok, I know this post is over a month old, but I really want to respond to this. Your "long-time Mechwarrior League (+10 years)" has not been active as long as the 3rd person league known as MWL. NBT(no disrespect intended towards NBT) had been shut down and is just now gearing up to finally restart(my team, Dark Rift/Wolf's Dragoons{I think we're the Dragoons, could be wrong} is playing NBT scrimages now). If MW4 is any model to follow when it comes to 1st person or 3rd person, just remember which option is still the most active.
