Would an Open World MMO style battlefield work in this game?

Nope!
mechwarrior is a mission based game... you are not a mech... you are a pilot in a mech for a mission.

and many many many other reasons!

I think a Battletech/Mechwarrior flavored Star Citizen would be fantastic. A chance to get out of my mech and go start a bar fight....

Yes, what this game should have been in the first place, the devs had no ambition or drive. Like someone else said, mechwarrior with a planetside 2 type architecture would have been the perfect mechwarrior game. Instead of this team deathmatch arena robots we're stuck with.

Thank you! I thought MWO was supposed to be Planetside 2 scale from the moment it was announced, and then we got Arena Fights Online.

Wait. You want to spend several hours hauling your assault mech through an actual world to get to an objective?

We need missions. So yes I would spend more time doing that than death matching.

Would just turn into lights blitzing attack areas while the slower mechs take 3 hours to get anywhere assuming they don't die.

MWO like Planetside 2? Uuhhhh...now I'm imagining trying to make it from one side of Indar to the next at 48KPH in a Dire Wolf. It's not a pleasant idea.

If they made it a mix of MechWarrior and Battletech, I think they could make it work. Mech Pilots do not live in their Mechs. Plenty of missions to be run outside of a mech, plus they could add all the different parts of Battletech like infantry, aerospace fighters, jumpships, dropships, ground vehicles, artillery ect.

I think it would be awesome being able to hop into Battle Armor (like an Elemental) and fight mechs towering overhead, as I hold onto a friendly mech to reach a battle area.

And being around Dropships, Aerospace Fighters, Tanks and so on would be awesome for true BattleTech feel!

At this point something like this would probably be better off handled by a different company from the ground up. Open world games take quite a bit of staff just to maintain the servers. The Cryengine wouldn't be able to handle it. Better off starting from the ground up to be honest. They could import the assets but honestly I think if you want an Open World Mechwarrior game you better start making your own studio to do it.

Cryengine could never handle an openworld MMO
could you imagine the hit detection issues?
mwo should have been made in Frostbite or Unreal then it could possibly handle more than 24 players at a time

Don't think anyone has said that.

Pretty sure planetside 2 has teleportation...

That's what dropships are for.

you can teleport to any base your faction owns, or a mobile command vehicle that is deployed. If you want the biggest toys like Jets and dropships you have to respawn far back, and some bases don't have vehicle points. So you gotta walk, or start farther back and drive.

If we were stuck to mechs only with a similar system assaults would walk a long distance with lights and mediums respawning much closer to the fight.
