I could see the Commando -5S.... but wait, I can create that exact variant with one I already have.... so nah, let PGI put their efforts elsewhere. ;) The Grand Dragon.... mehbee.... but I'd rather they fix the Dragon graphic first. That thing is FUGLY. :)

FWIW, the COM-5S = SRM-6 w/ Artemis, S-SRM-2, CASE, and has Endo and FF.

And yet we have what 5 Wolfhounds and 5 Crabs with nearly identical harpoints AND hardpoint locations.

Just to pick on 2 recent mechs.

Hardpoint location also makes a huge difference in this tiny little mech. There's also a JJ version, IIC version, Ballistics capable version, and I think I saw one with 5 or 6 hardpoints on the list. Even 1 hardpoint would turn a Com from a ninja into a super ninja.

Other things that would help - expanding the fusion engine beyond the Urbie.
Weapons like the Rocket launchers.
Actual info tech systems to make C-3 useful.
Light mech "supercharger".

Since Grand Dragon is nothing more than upgraded Dragon chassis and the same goes for COM-5S, PGI does not have to design new mechs from scrap while enlarging the mech selection.

Granted, the upgraded versions do not have any noticeable hardpoint differences compared to the old versions--except Grand Dragons have energy slots on right and left torso, and has higher engine rating--but PGI had done hardpoint inflation to differentiate mechs; Grasshopper being a good example. Perhaps making Grand Dragon variants to have better laser vomit potential or shift the missile hardpoint to a slot where it can fit larger launchers.

There lies the question though: If PGI releases DRG-1G, DRG-5K, and COM-5S with slightly different/inflated hardpoints, would you buy them?

I'm going to be honest with you, man. The last thing this game needs is more Dragon mechs.

Would you say we'd be getting more... Bad Dragons®?

At this point, all one can do is Imagine Dragons.

RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!

Meh, since it's back I might was ramble a bit.

We'll get grand dragons when PGI decides to redesign the dragon. Hell it's the only fat *** mech that has enough new variants that PGI can justify re-releasing it and doing a full redesign and make money.

I'm not feeling it. The Grand Dragon, doesn't feel all that different than a DRG-1C or Flame. The missile upgrade option wont work due to the CT critical space. As for the Commando, it doesn't seem functionally different that the ones we have, except for the new technology they haven't developed.

At this point I would prefer they polish what they have, including upgrading textures and dynamic weapons on the remaining mechs (not to mention the whole CW thing).

A single LRM 10 or LRM 5 in the torso was fine for the Lulz. People said it didn't work for ****, but yet it did. It's not a primary weapons but a HO HO you thought going behind that hill might save you!?! Lol NOPE.

Faction specific variants becoming available as Rank rewards. If you aren't that faction, you can't drop as that variant. Permanent house units need a huge buff over a basic loyalty point buff.

I'd get both the Dragons. I already have all five of the ones we get now... :)

There are two ways they can make it in game - additional variants for $, as it was with GRF-2N and others, from gift store. Or as next rewards customer appreciation thing.
I want COM-5S badly for years now. Don't know why, probably because it is very Steiner. I must have all COM and ZEU.
As for hardpoints - all COMs are very similar. 2 missile(RH, CT) and 2 energy (LH) will do, +ECM or two AMS. Many mechs have its lostech version available, why not COM?
And Grand Dragon would be nice too. Always wanted myself a dragon, but alas, Kurita stuff. This matters for me.
Would be nice if he had unique geometry, for example round shoulders.

PS I wonder if previous customer appreciation mechs will make it as normal models, same as it was with CN9-AH and AS7-S.

I do like the 1B as a nimble lil sniper.
Tried the 1d with the biggest engine x2mpl + SRM4 or BAP & AMS?

That's an evil little thing. I chewed the arse off a king crab last night and just waited as he turned, the folk in my group were gonna drop him the moment he turned anyhow, I just wanted a Commando to be the last thing he saw.
