The clans haven't arrived yet but most of us get the general idea.

Imagine if you were in the beta game right now and your team has 3 players while the enemy has 1, at this point victory is almost certain if you ganked him together or bypassed your opponent for the objective. Before you act however, the lone surviving enemy calls out for individual combat in the middle of the map, challenging you and your friends to duel one at a time.

Your enemy is a relatively good pilot and has suffered little damage. The odds are still against him but he is better off than without Zellbrigen imposed and at the very least he may inflict more damage on your team which will add to repair costs.

The rules, if you accept are as follow:

1.) 1 on 1 combat at a time only
2.) No use of indirect fire, artillery strikes, long range sniping
3.) Combat begins when both sides are ready
4.) Combat only takes place at a selected location

What will you do?

(Side note: Your enemy isn't a clanner, he has the same IS tech as you. The time line is 3049, clans haven't arrived yet but this challenge is issued in the same way Knife fights between the last 2 players in Counter-Strike are issued)

Given even 1 at a time you are95% sure to win, then yes why not, and hey if he pulls off the 5% chance of winning, then i would begrudge him not the victory

Insist that we drink the celebratory pre-duel toast before. You know, the one with the poisoned wine?

"They were both poisoned. I spent the last few years building up an immunity to iocane powder."

As a clanner, yes, doing stupid honorable stuff is the fun part of being a clanner (having the tech to pull it off is a bonus). As an Inner Sphere pilot...

"I accept your batchall with my Jenner."
"Lancemates, stand on that ridge. Wait 'til I Narc him before you light him up."

It will be honored as long as he is not using it as a tactic to run out the clock and force a draw.

im going to alpha strike you in the cockpit while your typing in your request for zellbrigen. then while your typing in your angry response to my action, the other 3 lances with me are going to alpha strike your friends in the back. if your lucky, there wont be a griefer in our party that would systematically remove both your arms, then your legs for maximum expense costs on your part.

The Inner Sphere doesn't play like that :) . Fight 3 on one to push the advantage.

However, if / when the game expands to include clans, that might be an interesting game type for multiplayer.

I won MANY 1v2, 1v3 and 1v4 in my Mech career. Granted, they were all respawn matches.

I'd kill him 3v1 and call it a day.

If I am playing as a clanner? Yes

If I am playing as Inner Sphere freebirth scum? No. Not at all.

I cant vote without a "the only respond that a clanner will get is a narc-beacon"-option. :)

Ok, ignoring the fact that Zellbrigen is a clanner thing and your opponent just calls for an IS version of individual combat, will you then respect such a request?

(like knife fights between the last 2 players in Counter-Strike)

Normally I would go with the all's fair idea... but given the situation the OP outlined, I would be inclined to honor the request for 1v1.

That said and slightly off topic if I was the lone mech it might be kinda fun (on the right map and right mech) to be the last mech versus 3 enemy mechs and try to salvage that win with some creative piloting/tactics.

I have to agree with some of the above - if Clanner, yes. If IS, fat chance - only Kurita are so stupid/honourable (delete as desired) to do that with inferior mechs.

I say pound the daylights outa them and stomp those toads...

Nice Princess Bride reference there, that man... :)
