Part of it is, I may not want to go and talk to other people. I work in a fast paced stressful work environment. Sometimes I just want to go home and shoot at stuff for a little bit. Other times I want in-depth team work. Either way I'd rather have those options available within the title rather than needing for me to go hunt for it through 3rd party avenues.

I get what you're saying that the options are there. But not everyone is going to have this presented to them nicely and the users who don't frequent the forums or directly go after other social media outlets associated with the game.

Thanks for the comment, my statement above still is where I stand at the moment.

Well, you said you didn't know anyone and have no means of communicating with them outside the forum, but you do. Maybe you meant to say you didn't want to know anyone or communicate with anyone? :)

I know in Marik we have lots of players who aren't on the mic and communicate through chat, but they listen in on the channel. You could make threads in either the Kurita forum looking for players who are currently online, or you can do the same on the House Kurita website. In fact, if the Kurita website works like the Marik one (which it should as it is also an enjin site) you can see who is on teamspeak without even signing in, so you could send messages/friend requests to people you know are online.

There are options, if you want them.

All 3rd party options. I want 1st party options cause well I don't want to have to work to play. Even if the work is minor to achieve. This is also more me whining than achieving anything. It's just a simple point that a lot of this should be provided through the title including the Unit Registry that was done prior to that feature coming online. All of it is just UI tied to a database and presenting the strings associated with that.

Tomorrow or on the 17th you should have the options you seek.

3rd party options have always been superior to MWO's 1st party options. Smurfy's Mechlab, Outreach's CW summary, Player made leagues and tournaments, Krivvan's CW tracker, etc. But MWO Chatroulette starts this month, so there you go.

It never ceases to amaze me the mindset.

"WE NEED TOOLS LIKE VOIP!"
"You have them, TeamSpeak, Mumble, Ventrillo, all the factions are using at least one of them"
"PGI NEEDS TO MAKE IT!"
"Why? TeamSpeak has been around for almost 20 years, it's what they do and they do it well. Also it's free. If PGI makes one, it's not going to be nearly as good as TS"
"REASONS!"

smh.

Depends on the title and the community within that title as to how the 1st Party options hold up compared to 3rd party options. As a general rule of thumb I'd agree that 3rd party is superior. But there is always a hope that 1st party can compete. And if the systems are done in a robust thoughtout and well designed fashion they can actually be competitive.

Honestly, that is a pretty silly thing to get hung up over.

I have TS, Mumble, Jabber, Ventrillo and Skype loaded at pretty much all times because different groups use different things in different games.

......and even in games that HAVE in-game VoIP I rarely use it.

I run my own TS3 server, I use it for most things. But I only invite friends I know, and their friends on there. Then I make use of the voice communication presented within titles as the means to communicate with "others." As well I called out its my own little gripe and I'm not hung up over it, it's just something I'd be pushing for immensely. As it stands you look at older titles that have done it well, any game by Tripwire Interactive essentially, and newer games are striving toward that, Dragon Age: Inquisition.

This title not having in game social of ANY kind since the closed beta is just a massive oversight that should've remedied a long while ago. Namely just having some sort of global chat with categorical breakdown of some kind. Mimicking the features of any MMO would've yielded the appropriate commands like ignore, for troublemakers and having the various channels people would be interested in for like "Looking for Party" or "General" and that break down could've mitigated the flood that exists in every MMO when it comes to that. Hell Star Ruler 2, which is in early access on steam, has the ability for you to start an IRC channel as one of their tabs during gameplay.

More often then not the in game VOIP is sub par to 3rd Party.

Plus there is no implicit acknowledgement of command so its still all bets are off.

TS3 is good, but if i have to spend in drop time that could go from 9 to 1 min quick.
I dont have the ts server number get the password wrong, find the group, and now its under 45 seconds.
a simple hold button down and the speak to locals.

This.

Quirks were based on usage data from when:
1) Poptarts were still king
2) Pub queue was 4 man or 12 man for groups

...and doesn't account for the JJ nerf that basically makes heavy and assault JJs a waste of tonnage.

This is why when you see a Dragon Stalker or Heavy Metal, its like "LOOK LOOK guys, a Metal, he's trying to bring it back!!!".

Yep. Nowadays, seeing a Heavy Metal, Highlander in general or Victor is like going to see a band popular in the 1970's trying to do songs from their upcoming album. You hope for them to do well, but really the magic is gone.

this! <3

If this build wasn't so damn OP it wouldn't be so commonly overused. Now it's just a bread and butter in every match in 12 man teams. It even more undermines the sense of casuals vs pre-mades matches.

Which is EXACTLY why so many people flocked to the clans when they were released..........and now most of those same people are whining because there is ONE SINGLE IS MECH that has an obvious ability to engage at long range. Oh the huge manatee!!!!!!

The mech does NOT need a nerf in any way, shape or form.........the matchmaker needs work.........limitation on quantity of chassis variants per match would work (except for those darn clanners whining that they don't have enough good chassis) to do this.

You might also notice that if you were already on a TS with all of the other folks dropping in your faction you would only have to gather in a channel with the rest of the folks. It's pretty easy. GB and Marik both do this.

So... you don't understand why folks are asking for features that have been included in every other title like this for years?

And you don't understand how "get on team-speak" is utterly worthless in a PUG since in the 70-seconds from match pairings until they drop they are not going to be able to get everyone to download and install the client or get everyone on the same Teamspeak server or channel?

Gotcha...

And YOU don't understand that once you are on a VoIP client, you are rarely a solo derp, but invited into the classic term of PUG (Pick Up Group) and switching servers/channels rarely, if ever, happens.

Please, don't try to speak on something you haven't the slightest clue about.

Don't make silly assumptions - you're above that. I use Teamspeak - Comstar and private channels where trolls and their bad humor aren't a problem - so I know how it works.

I also know that expecting random PUG's to visit the forums and figure out Teamspeak on their own is pushing it - consider how many people still make horrid mech builds that a brief search on the forums would prevent. Similarly, expecting 12 random players to all pick a Teamspeak server and type in the IP address and join the same dropship in 70 seconds is a joke.

I'll agree that PGI doesn't need to write it's own VoIP software - that's just pointless - but the game should integrate the stuff that exists. Add some menus that launch Teamspeak, Mumble, whatever, or point you to the download site if you don't have them. Take people to the default PUG server - you get the idea. Only if everyone starts in about the same location is there any hope of getting a PUG team together on VoIP. If they all are very likely to have Teamspeak and be on Comstar when dropping, then it's just pick a dropship and go - that could be done in 70-seconds. Heck, the game could probably just pick or generate an empty dropship per team, though that might be a lot of dropships needed. But finding the IP address, expecting everyone to type it in, pick a dropship... nope, not happening in that short a time frame.

I disagree. Those 50% quirks are overboard. At the very least, they should belong to the Awesome. So the better option is probably to switch AWS and TDR quirks.

As for the matchmaker, I like having none.
