I've personally done exactly this only to have one player persistently call out my position to the enemy, even as I'm actively manuevering - I never stopped and I never powered down, and my mech was in good enough shape that I could have done some fine work if I'd managed to catch a lone hostile unawares, yet injured enough that a straight-up fight against somebody who was being fed intel on my position was a foregone conclusion.

and at that point the teammate is now the one griefing, and you report him.

Exactly, and that's what I did.

I just wanted to point out that team chat is not a silver bullet.

Have just come out of a public match where it 11 to 2 with 5 minutes to go, and folks were very happily reporting the remaining enemy unit for cheating because he hadn't presented himself to their presence for immediate execution (as apparently was his duty). This isn't the first time I've seen it, and I'm quite sure it isn't the last, but it continues to boil my blood.

The rules are "15 minutes or all enemy dead", not 'till you think you should have the win', so either get off your butt and make all enemy dead (especially if you have 10 mechs to find them with) or get off your butt and get PGI to change the rules set so that the game stops and gives the victory at a different point.

Don't report some guy for not wanting to get perished, or who think they have or might actually have the plan and the skills to stage a comeback, and who is actually playing within the rules set. Work for your win, don't moan for it or demand it to satisfy your ego or whatever schedule the rest of the world must follow during your leisure time.

People like you are the reason we don't have a decent reporting system, because you'll end up reporting for anything you view to be an infraction of your own personal 'how the game must be played' listing (which currently includes "losing the match", "reversing when /I/ wouldn't", "friendly fire in the middle of a brawl", "having an overly colourful paintjob" and "using LRMs/ballistics/lasers/clanmechs".)

Just play the damn game, and if someone being alive angers you that much then find them and take it out on their damn hull!

If the last player is actively playing, then i'm fine with it.

In fact, some of the most awesome matches I have seen involve epic last stands.

If the last player has shut down though... it boils my blood - though I try not to say anything, as everyone is entitled to play the game any way they want, just as ******* old people are entitled to walk right down the middle of the aisle in the supermarket, completely oblivious to me standing behind then fantasizing about crash tackling them into the giant stack of tinned corn and then throwing their ******* walking frame into orbit.

History books would disagree, although argument appears to hinge on everyone else being limited to a kindergarten education.

Which books would those be? Sure there are situations in history that could not be ignored, but bottom line is that if everyone learned to stay in their seat, be quiet, and keep their hands, feet and business to themselves, most major conflicts in history never would have needed to begin in the first place.

Second, apparently most people never took that kindergarten education to heart, as evidenced in the thread above.

Third, the actual basis of the argument is that a little abstract reasoning goes a long way, although that's a rare enough capability in the population as a whole.

It is because those powered down ******** are wasting 24 people's time. Yup, he is wasting his own time too, unless he already disconnected. Shorter matches, more drops, shorter waiting times... Imo the selfish ones are those who are trying to maintain their KD ratio by hiding, without a chance of winning.

People like you seem to think it is about KD. NO IT IS NOT!

It is about making the enemy earn the last kill. It's really as simple as that. It's only your ego working overtime thinking someone else's ego is at work.

And the mods have already spoken about this topic. You all signed up for a potentially 15-minute match.

These threads are always a joke. If I see someone clearly hiding at the end because he's a poor sport, and he doesn't intend on even trying to win, I will tell the other team where he is. If you want to cry that I'm breaking rule 467, paragraph 8, subsection 16, of the Code of Conduct go ahead and report me.

Until PGI creates an anti-stall feature in the game, I'm not going to put up with people hiding without any intention of winning.

B-b-b-but the rules! The sacred CODE! How dare you apply common sense to your videogames?

It's like you're an adult with free will, or something.

Nobody has a problem when the last guy is actually trying to win. It's when he's shut down in a cave to drag out a loss that gets on people's nerves. We're talking about two different things here.

Light mech pilots that run off and hide or lead enemy players on goose chases during Skirmish are garbage and SHOULD be banned if not worse. Skirmish is ruined by these players. Sad thing is... I suggested a fix to this issue in the form of a simple waypoint that causes the last man standing to show up on the map/HUD as if they were being spotted by someone. But, of course... all the light pilots started crying and shot the idea down.

The only ones who need to be banned are all of you whining, entitled, self important brats that expect others to throw away their game for you. You failed and you died, nobody is obligated to validate your failure and lack of skill by suiciding for you. Survival is a core game mechanic, nobody with a brain buys your pathetic attempts to skew interpretations of the rules to suit your needs. This thread has really convinced me that I need to stall the enemy as the last player more often; if they can't earn the kill then they don't deserve it.

There are people out there that actually sit down and wait 8-9 minutes for the count down timer...these people kill my buzz.

This is funny since you're sitting in front of a computer playing a video game.

But playing videogames is fun and stimulating. Or at least, that's what videogames should be. If you're not having fun, then maybe it's time to play a different game? Especially so if the videogame in question has a habit of wasting your time because of poor design decisions, rude players, gameplay mechanics, or long wait times between matches.

In my experience this only happens when:
  • The last pilot is disconnected.
  • The last pilot is AFK.
  • The last pilot is an ******* that shuts down in the middle of nowhere and disconnects to troll the remaining players.
  • The last pilot actively refuses to fight for a long time (4-5 minutes) despite repeated calls from both teams.
It does not happen when:
  • You're actually trying to fight the enemy team.
  • Communicate with your team properly and tell your intentions without saying "STFU ur dead".

Yep, BUT, when this happens to me and I try to find good positions and I try to snipe, I receive tons of garbage in team chat and in general chat too.
("go there and fight!"... you know... it seems ppl wants me to brawl with 3 er-ll..... )

If there is only 1 mech left against half of the enemy team, chances are slim for that one mech to turn the game.
But as long as he/she does anything besides running away and hiding, it's fine.
EDIT: The only exception would be Conquest when the team really has a chance to win by points.

Everything else is just wasting everyones time.
AFK/DC player left? -> tell pos to end the match quick.
Last player running away and hiding to survive? -> Imho, bad play. Wouldn't report pos, but would encourage the player to end it by ejecting or fighting it out.
Worried about your K/D? -> Play better next time.

But did any one listen? Nooo, just a harmless little bunny, we want a "pure" deathmatch mode.

Pure deathmatch has infinite respawns, what we have is team survival.
