Hyperion Adama: If those guys don't treat ya right just head out to Port Kirin on Antallos. We're just outside town. Not to hard to find. Extra, private bunks are always available and we'll get ya your fair share.

After recieving a wave, I am now really hoping to be with this group. Then to top it all off the entire Firefly "series" is on Netflix, so I know what I will be watching again after the olympics are over.

I've always found it amusing that, while people often overlook it or don't realize it (in particular later official authors) but BattleTech is supposed to resemble Firefly a hell of a lot more than you'd think at first glance. Because of the loss of tech all the border worlds almost never get support from the core government planets, leading to them maintaining ancient technology like.. trucks and cars, while often knocked all the way back to horses and brick to build stuff.

Sadly you stopped really getting to explore these areas much in the later years of the game, with most people thinking only the Periphery is supposed to be like that (when in fact, a lot of the Periphery factions are quite respectable places) thanks to the focus on high-tech armies, recovering technology and capital cities. A shame, too.

While it was the worst episode of the show I got a laugh out of the guy in Heart of Gold having both a laser pistol and hover car with his guys on horses with revolvers, because that's pretty much exactly the kind of thing painted by almost all the early CBT fluff.
