It makes the game incredibly discouraging when you are being dropped partially shut down in to a group of people shooting at you, and your torso armour is almost gone before the display even comes up or you can return fire, you need to add safe drop zones or a different way of spawning defending 'mechs or something. And because the drop zones are pretty much on top of the objectives it isn't like the other team has a choice.

I hit the ground in a CW match the other night (1st time doing the new counter-attack, no gates or turrets, thing) and died in about 1.5 seconds. Pretty disappointing. That's the only time that's ever happened to me though. I'm interested to see if people feel this happens enough to warrant a change somewhere.

I know how to stop it from happening: Don't screw up so badly that it becomes a viable tactic for your opponent.

If you are being spawn camped, you have already lost the game. The opponent is merely trying to end it quickly, rather than sitting around waiting for you to charge in, one at a time, to their base.

Could always look into a withdrawal option.

The one time I've been in a spawn camping situation, I was able to run headlong into the enemy firing alphas like a mad man, which was enough to push them back, giving my team the ability to regain lost ground (which they then again lost). I have, however, seen the hit the ground and explode type of spawn camping. Maybe the Dropships deserve more MLas? or maybe some U/AC2s with 50% damage, just to screen shake and mess with people in the spawn?

On Sulphur you cant let them get into alpha gate at all. Should it be changed? I dont think so its a valid weakness for the defending side on that map.

I think the defending dropships need their guns back is all for many reasons.

Who nows they may change it again. Theres even talk about mech bay elevators to undergound hangars for the defenders in the suggestion forums.

The spawn camping is getting stupid.

Just finished my 7th game in a row where the enemy just pushes a side takes a single spawn then just camps it until everyone is dead.

If you are the unlucky ones that drop there, you're slagged in 30 seconds tops.

Like more than a few players, I think it is reaching a point that SOMETHING has to be done and many players, (myself included) just quit matches as soon as we see a spawn camp coming. And soon, we'll just leave the game altogether. Playing games like this is supposed to be about enjoyment, not frustration.

Hmm maybe you guys should work on not letting the enemy get to your spawn?

Happened twice to me in all my cw drops, both times pugging and both times it was the team as a whole's fault.

If you're in an organized group and you're getting steamrolled to the point of spawn camping, you guys have some issues to sort out.

If you're pugging in CW, you have to realize you're swimming with the sharks. You're basically food for big units to farm.

Cw has many flaws, this isn't one.

There should be a 5-10 second shield for players when they drop in to give them time to run to cover. Of course you can disable it early by firing your weapons. I don't care how over the match is, everyone deserves a chance to fight back when they respawn.

Magic invulnerability shields? No.

I'd rather have some form of player-selected drop point mechanic instead.

No this would be stupid. I rather the drop ship not land in an area that has been overrun. There is usually more than 1 drop zone it would make sense them to be used if one is under seige.

I disagree semantically - spawn camping shows poor implementation of the drop mechanic - but the spirit of your comment I agree with... it's not a 'big' issue per se.

Possible fixes -

Make our guns live from the moment we enter the dropship
Let us choose a spawn
Have the dropship hang out an extra 2 seconds while your mech powers up
Put some stuff in the way so you can't shoot the DZ from by the gates as easily.

Isn't what you describe "spawn ****?" I thought spawn camping was sitting in your spawn waiting for the enemy to come to you. Not to get into a semantics war or anything...

As far as the issue is concerned, adding some dropship weaponry would certainly help the situation. During the few seconds the dropship is over the spawn, it could buzz any would-be rapers with its guns. Not only would it fix the problem, but it would be a realistic (not to mention hella cool) method of doing it as well.
