Do you even know what stealing means? It might be considered fraud, but certainly not stealing.

In the OPs defense, while there was a bit too much rage I am annoyed with it too. I just did the same thing, but I am too lazy to even bother sending anything to PGI, I just don't care enough about the game atm. This sort of thing just makes me even more apathetic. Just changing the tool tip or putting one there wouldn't take much. It would save players and pgi time, I bet they have already spent more time making corrections then it would have been to code a tool tip.

I try and stay positive and constructive on this forum, but the original topic is correct. It should either unlock the camo as it says or it should say chassis unlock. Period.

Its a bad system and they do need to explain it better.

Hopefully they do rework the entire UI soon and add better descriptions to everything.
Currently such a mystery to newbies what anything does and googling hardly helps because so much has been changed over time.

Go ahead and tell OP to just message support etc. But he is not alone in being angry and I can imagine how many new recruits to the game have been turned off by the camo unlock accidental ripoff and other UI confusion. Bad for the game, less people to shoot.

The self entitlement is real. PGI definitely should make it more clear what you're getting, but since it turns out to not be what you wanted you now demand you get more of the product at the exact same price rather than a refund? I hope PGI doesn't cave to your demands because that just sets a precedent for more people scamming them by faking outrage, unless they decide to actually make it across all mechs for everyone as part of a business decision.

EDIT: And yes, having worked in customer service before I know all about how many people attempt to scam companies to get more for the same price and use outrage and even legal action threats to achieve this.

Sorry you figured this out the hard way. It's a terrible system (most people agree). I won't buy any pattern unlocks because it's insanely expensive if you have more than two or three mechs. If, however, they changed it to unlock for all your mechs (as almost everyone assumes is going to be the case) I'd buy a bunch. As is? Not a snowballs chance in hell. PGI is just losing money, imo. I suppose maybe their math says they make up the difference with all the hardcore fans on here that have boatloads of cash to spend on this game, though.

PGI will continue to let things like this sit around and slowly drain money from the newbies and less informed if we don't point it out.

Thanks cSand I think it's pretty obvious that I know how to write.

Go to a forum and search for information on "Unlockable" camo? That's a stupid suggestion and you know it.

How many MWO players have thrown actual money away and not bothered messaging support over this?

That might make them a little lazy sure, but it doesn't excuse the obviously unethical nature of 10 times the price for less than the value.

Most people would contact support about the issue. You however are one of the few (and most loud lately) that decide to come on the forums and ***** about the company 'stealing' your money even though you willingly purchased it, and they WILL refund you, allowing you to purchase the one shots.

I personally bought an unlockable camo for 6/8 of my Clan Wave 1 chassis because they look great, were 1/2 off, and I'll be happy to never have to worry about losing it should I ever decide to purchase another camo, being able to freely swap between them. Its rare that I make a MC/real money purchase but when I do I look into what I'm getting and make sure I have no issues with it. The one time that I did message support about changing (swapped my Timby/Summoner al a carte purchases for the full wave 1 package when the mad dog bonus came out) something they did it without delay and were very friendly and prompt about it.

So I finally decided to get my 'Mechs a unified camo pattern and colors.

I already own several colors that I've bought at different times and obviously I can use them on any 'Mech. Even between IS and Clan.

Imagine my surprise though when I bought my first "Unlockable" pattern only to find out that I cannot use it on ANY OTHER CHASSIE. 0_0

I just payed TEN TIMES THE PRICE of a "One Shot" of the same pattern for only THREE CHASSIES.

I don't want my mc back I want an apology and I want this pattern on all of my mechs.

There is no UI explanation of this idiot tax, this is theft, plain and simple.

Better not but a color you already have (IE from a camo pack), theyll refuse to help, especially if youve had help in the past. They should really denote All the colors you already own -.-

unless youve had help in the past, then theyll flat out refuse you. That was the reason given when I asked

I'm not sure if I am just misunderstanding you, but they already do that. Under colors, there is a category, "Owned." It only displays colors you 100% own.

I had bought something Id already owned because it still had the lock on it

When shopping for colors it should say that or take out the colors you already have bought

Unless it was a bug, the store doesn't charge you the cost of a color you already own. I've tested it many times. However, if you have an unpurchased camo equipped at the same time or a second color equipped that you don' t currently own, you will be charged. Before you click "SAVE," always check the bottom left balance to see if the change is free or if it will cost MC. I always double check the cost before saving ANY Camo Spec. So far I have only been burned on the unlockable camo just like the OP. You only make that mistake once.

I do agree that "Unlock" is very misleading and needs a warning, or better yet, to be renamed.

Apparently, you haven't even tried customer service, and it's amazing, but I think you would rather get attention and cry waahh. Try sending an email to support@mwomercs.com, get your MC back, and pass on your concerns...

This topic is far too crowded with people completely NOT understanding the issue at hand. Those defending PGI say "gee I don't mind paying for camo for 1 chasis only, don't be cheap!" That is NOT the issue here. The issue here is thinking you are buying one thing and getting another. PGI does a terrible job describing (actually, it doesn't describe it at all) what it is you are paying for. THAT is the issue.

Really, a LOT of people in this thread do seem to understand that this is an issue. However rather than go to customer service to get his MC refunded the op started ranting and screaming that they were stealing. If he wanted he could create a well thought out post and tried to get PGI to have a better interface describing what you actually get. Instead he basically just raged off and demanded he get it for all the mechs despite getting exactly the product PGI sells for the exact price.

EDIT: Fixed wording

There are apparently two greens that look so much alike they might as well be the same but they have slight differences. I bought the second one of that after getting a Jester ad to me they looked the same so I got a refund. The next time something akin to that happened, they said that due to my having been helped in the past I wouldnt get another one.

the camo system is soooo dumb; I've always thought they would certainly get more sales if the patterns were just universal to all chassis

although, note that you can get the one shot camos quite cheap. As long as you don't take them off the last forever
