We've considered the possibility that MS may be that petty and spiteful, we have contingencies for that as well.

There needs to be an in-game mechanism for dealing with faction hoppers who join a faction just to sabotage that faction's alliances.

By all means. If this nifty little exchange program carries on like it has been eventually the question we'll all be talking about is whether to call ourselves the Free Worlds Combine or the Draconis Leauge. I'm more fond of the latter myself.

The most direct method would be a mechanism for mercs to be blacklisted from a faction. Either dock their (collective?) loyalty points or not allow them to renew their contract. They'll have to play nice if they want to grind those sweet loyalty rewards.

What I don't understand is why PGI thought having unified faction command structures would NOT add depth and immersion...

IMO, I don't think they thought through the appeal of "loyalists". I mean the website is mwomercs.com.

Having said that, I don't think anyone wants a singular "leader" of their house, but I would like to see some sort of voting put in the game that would put restrictions on mechanics. Players vote up/down on NAPs locks or opens borders. Merc reviews determine if they are able to take a contract w/ that house again, etc.

All things that need to be worked out before this goes to Steam.

That's essentially what I mean. The game definitely doesn't need a handful of armchair generals with the power to dictate what everyone else in a faction does, but I do believe it needs a more democratic in-game system instead of the current model where everyone is basically at the mercy of where the merc units migrate in a given time period.

In Battletech pretty much every faction is lead by a Dictator or Monarch, so there would be one single unifying leader for each faction.

Shooting Stingr4y in the back is a Marik rite of passage. You're not 'truly' Marik until you do.

He's the only pilot in the IS who loads more rear armor than front armor. But we find it motivates him to godlike performance levels.

Do recall, the screen after you win or lose a match seems to talk to everyone (loyalist or temp contract) as though they were a merc with a contract with said house, and not as house warriors.

I believe that they should do something to bolster loyalists to a faction and make temp contracts more flexible (you can move factions), but have some limits (don't ask me what here). Something that could contain a unit (such as MS as the example here) from doing what many of the loyalist units don't want to have happen.

At the same time, I don't want to hinder non-loyalists either. It's a hard topic to come to any solutions, as who would be in "charge" of a faction? A player? A computer (what we already have now)? Some appointed PGI staff member? Who? We can't just deem ourselves as leaders of a nation, and expect everyone else (including PGI) to just follow on what we say...

Of course, PUGs are just going to be PUGs as well. Even Loyalist PUGs, but do you exclude them from making decisions just because they are not of a loyalist unit (yet)? Are they not counted as House Warriors from having a Loyalist contract? How would you determine this as well?

Many questions. Not many solutions I can see. PGI seems to have a lot of work ahead of them for CW. Good thing it's still in Beta.

I hope it's another gartersnake night, tonight. Mostly good fights n'stuff. Clans are fun too, but some wankers have those cues jammed up lately, which causes everyone to fight the other IS units.

Long story short, if there's two 12 mans waiting already, on a clan vs IS fight, how can you srsly expect anyone thats not part of your org to go there instead of elsewhere? You may be mistaking trolling for not wanting to wait 20 min in line for a 30% chance of turret drop.

Disclaimer: I speak for noone, just saying what I see happen every night.

PS - Kuritas is chock full of trolls and very amusing, so why not poke them with a stick?

All the factions already have unit agnostic sites for coordination and diplolmancy, why not build mechanics to integrate them rather then trying to build a factional strategic center from scratch? The Kurita-Marik stargate program and pilot exchange program are sterling examples of inter-factional coordination. Even the -MS- incident shows that we the players are already capable of instigating, reacting to AND resolving interstellar incidents without any spoonfeeding from PGI. The focus for diplomacy and contract mechanics should be to give these groups a framework to influence strategic scale operations, rather than trying to lay a foundation for them to build an already established community on.

There's no point, we are always running at full funposting capacity. Best case scenario is that Samurai Hanse Davion singles you out for one of his GRACEFUL AND ELEGANT Haikus.
