Worried About The Longevity Of Mwo

With MWO, we're paying to rent mechs. When PGI decides to shut down the MWO servers, the game is over. And your vast mechbay with 200 mechs with custom camo, cockpit items, C-bill bonuses, and modules.... it's gone. You'll have nothing left to show for it, except your screenshots.
That's the stuff that bothers me, right now. I'm uncomfortable with sinking more money into an aging game without owning the rights to play anything at all. Without PGI keeping the game alive, I can't even look at my mechs in the mechbay.
I don't just want to rent the permission to play with PGI's mechs, for hundreds of dollars, untill they decide to pull the plug.
I'd like to own... something.

Though imagine the horror if Valve/Steam ever went out of business for whatever reason? *shudder*

How much is a night out, cinema or a take away pizza? I find that the cost per hour comes in at some of the cheapest entertainment around. Its even cheaper than a book, which is over in a few nights.
All this complaining about game modes is weird too. How many game modes do any of the top online pvp shooters have?

Never go to a live music concert?
Never pay for something just for the experience?
On the flip side of the coin, how often do you go back and replay a game 10 years later even though you still own it and can play it? I guess some people do, but I know I don't play old games often unless I get a particular itch, and when I do that's why there's GoG and my old NES/SNES.

Even the AAA $60 releases need Day One patches to fix their often bugged sinpleplayer and/or multiplayer components.
Unfortunately, this is the way online only F2P game operate. It's the nature of the beast that your paid content is only good until the publisher/developer pulls the plug. But then comes the dilemma, since if nobody pays, the game will be pulled sooner.

As for longevity, this game easily has another 5 years in it.

However, I think MWO and PGI are doing just fine and the multiplayer aspect will go on for awhile.

Compared to any other form of entertainment PGI/MWO is providing me the best value. And if i compare it to my hobbies of producing maple syrup and glassworking... it's probably SAVING me money every time it distracts me from spending $hundreds on a tool or accessory i don't really need.
Also, MWO has connected me with more ppl at the same life-stage as myself (30+, with kids, with demanding career, with limited gaming time, etc) than my work life or old-man rec leagues have. So that's pretty cool too.

If they get the steam launch right the game will double or triple its take.
