Ahhhh... the new sheriff.

And visions of sheriff Bart riding into Rock Ridge come to mind.

Welcome and salutations, ma'am, and the Mongo be ever in your favor.

Oh, I used to play SD Gundam Capsule Fighter but not the OGplanet version. I was playing the Cherry Credits version in SEA. Most of the complaints that SD Gundam had to deal with were players complaining about cash grab events and complaining that the game was months behind the Korean version in content (this part you won't have to deal with in MWO).

I recommend you break down the community into the types of players that are here since we never really get along except in a few cases. I don't think you can often say "The community in MWO wants (x)" more like "The (y) part of the community wants this and the (z) part of the community wants this and the trolls want this."

Glad to have you aboard Tina. Here are the keys to the 30-50yo player's computer game. Set profanity filters to 'hardcore'.

I'd like to be hopeful that your prior experience in moderating a children's game could help you in this situation. Let's just scratch that off the list and start over.

I would get you to start on reading the archived general discussion thread, when you're back in 6 months after you've finished digesting that forum you can re-introduce yourself as the Community Manager for MWO.

My first request, tell PGI to hurry up with the Cauldron Born, June is too far away.

Hi Tina,

a very interesting aspect in community management of the last year were frequent challenges, tournaments, and less frequent, but quite common sale events.

Tournaments like the Stocking Stuffer Event or last Halloween event were quite fun because you were able to win every match at a small scale. That's quite motivating and an addition to the usual ingame fun. I think these tournaments were well made and both good for the community, as well as for PGI (since game activity increases).

Sale events have been ok so far. It's ok if we don't get what we want every sale, but once in a while, a little gem can still be found. Please hold in mind that in future sales, it would be nice if sale objects will not mainly be Clan Technology related, but still Inner Sphere content related. There are enough player who hold on to their IS technology for various reasons.

Now challenges. I believe PGI did not have a really good challenge yet. You can win really cool assets, but the way to get there has seldom been rewarding. Some challenges have been fun in regard to the prize, but the process in getting there is not necessarily well designed.

Either, the challenge was too easy or determined by factors you can't influence very well (like getting 5 wins to win a TDR-9S, which takes 10 games in average and you can't do very much about this with your skill).

Or, the challenge is a time consuming monster, like the current Adder Up event. In order to win an Adder, you have to play 50 games and get a kill and an assist in each. Considering that you can play about 6-8 games per hour, in the unlikely very best case you must play at least 6 hours within 3 days to have a chance for the prize. Now think not in terms of best cases, but in regard to the average player. This one may need about 8 hours for 50 games, and, you should know that by now, it's far from guaranteed that you will get a kill in every match. In fact, the first 3-4 players being killed will most likely be players that don't get a kill at all.

Considering these circumstances, it easily takes 10 hours or more to fulfill the criterion of this event. This is certainly not a 'challenge', but a painful and tedious process. For people with a social life and the usual obligations, spending 10 hours over a single weekend simply is too much.

As an informed adult, I know very well that it's my choice to participate in such an event, or to decide to not to. But: why create such an event if many players are excluded just because they don't want to invest their whole life capacity?

I'd suggest challenges that are not as time consuming, but still hold to the name 'challenge', in a positive sense. Similar to the challenge events where the best players for each mech had been determined by their best matches, but with a chance for every one to win, not only a few outstanding players.
  • Kills are summed up for the last 10 matches.
  • If there were at least 5 kills in the last 10 matches, you win A. (You can win this only once.)
  • If there were at least 8 kills in the last 10 matches, you win B. (once)
  • If there were at least 10 kills in the last 10 matches, you win C. (once)
  • If there were at least 12 kills in the last 10 matches, you win D. (once)
  • If there were at least 15 kills in the last 10 matches, you win E. (once)
  • If there were at least 20 kills in the last 10 matches, you win F. (once)
  • If there were at least 30 kills in the last 10 matches, you win a big fat G. (once)
  • If there were at least 40 kills in the last 10 matches, you win a big fat H. (once)
  • Get a title if you achieved the last tier.
There is no need to just take the kills, you may as well take kill assists into consideration or other aspects. I just don't like those formulas that were used from time to time like getting 10 points for a kill and 20 points for a kill assist: I had a few matches where I would not get the necessary points just because it was me who placed that last killing shot on a mech, reducing my points from 138 to 128 with a single click, placing me below the threshold of the needed 130 points.

With a challenge scale like the above it would be a real 'challenge', as not those players will get the last tier who invest the most time, but those players who achieved an outstanding kill quota throughout 10 consecutive games.

And, after reaching a certain tier, you may decide to 'work on it' to get to the next tier. Achieving this depends more on skill, and less on the minimum time you have to invest.

Best regards
Wormflush

Tina, welcome to MW:O.

If these suggestions are repeats, it's because they are probably felt throughout the community--or at least the segment I'm in and around.
  • The new player experience is brutal, and there is no up-to-date area on the official website or in game to find out how things work. All the information is there, it's just scattered around in various posts, etc. and not easy to find. If you want to expand your player base, something needs to be done about making them feel welcome and informed.
  • The old timers' opinions will make or break this game ... controversy and confusion needs to be addressed in the most open and informative way possible. You have to be willing to either convince us that the game is heading in the right direction for the game (this will often be different from our preconceived notions of how things should be) or to convince the designers and leadership at PGI that their vision is the wrong one.
  • Almost everyone who sticks around, at some point, will spend money on this game. I just started playing an alternate account (to see how long it really takes to build a Community Warfare deck), and in every game I play at the starter Elo level, there are custom paints and camos, hero 'mechs, package 'mechs, etc. Help us understand where our money is going and convince us to spend more.
  • If the CW planet-flip numbers are any indication, about 1/3 of your player base plays in the EU time zones and about 1/6 of your player base plays in the Oceanic-Pacific time zones. Put in the hours occasionally to stop by our TS3 (and other VOIP solutions) servers and chat. The game is a little bit different in these time zones, and our concerns and issues may be a little different.
  • The competitive units are devoted to this game, understand the mechanics better than almost everyone else (including most of the PGI staff I've talked to), and have some very strong opinions on how to make the game better. In almost every case, they want a balanced, fair playing field for everyone ... please listen to them.
  • The leadership of the casual units are devoted to this game, understand what retains or alienates players better than almost everyone else, and have some very strong opinions on how to make the game more fun. In almost every case, they want a fun, enjoyable experience for everyone ... please listen to them.
I've been playing this game actively for more than two years, and I know players who have been here almost three years. We care about the game, the BattleTech IP, and the experience for everyone. Show us that you're one of us, or at least trying to understand why we have stuck with it for so long, and we will bend over backwards to give you the benefit of the doubt when we can. However, break that trust, and there will be a digital riot. I don't envy you, but I very much look forward to hearing more from you about how we can help you move the game forward/

i think PGI should do the same to broken mechs as with broken maps. take them out if they cant be fixed.
because hitreg on firestarters is too broken atm they should get out like mining colony.
200 damage to its torso. not even cored. yay lots of fun
