AU - 240 and I am very surprised how well this game plays. I dont really notice much lag, generally gg's.Prior to MWO I would not even consider playing at that ping.

Damm I would love <100 though!

EU North(Finland). Ping usually a solid 125. Game starts stuttering at 150+, at 200+ it's already unplayable as mechs start teleporting....

South Africa. I get a solid ping of 235 when my ISP allows it. From playing since CB, I've come to understand that as someone with 235 ping the following occurs:

1. I suck killing lights because hit reg just never occurs (throughout MWO this has remained a solid rule, HSR mitigated it but its still pretty bad)

2. I suck piloting lights. I get the feeling that the 235 ping just makes it that my hitboxes appear everywhere. so no matter if I peek or poke, or duck around a corner. Everyone sees me for additional 5th of a second so I always get blasted to bits.

Throughout my thousands of game time hours going from newbie to experienced to good, those 2 rules have always remained absolute.

I feel I essentially confirmed my suspicions when I went on holiday to western Europe, logged into mwo with 100 ping and spent the time of absolute heaven as piloting/killing lights was no longer this clutching feeling as If I'm being handicapped by "ping".

The game literally just felt easier as a lot more shots registered overall. its not that I have hit reg problems with lights only but its most noticeable with light mechs.

I'd like to say that the tweaks of HSR are finally kicking in, but srms in general still feel really lacking terms of hit reg. Sometimes I wonder wouldnt it be better to have the ability to switch off HSR and just adjust for my aim according to my ping like I do in other games.

There was a serious fibre cut at on the main link to and from our datacentre overnight that caused all sorts of stuff to go bad. It has been fixed now.

Especially for people who have experienced the game at different pings, at what point do you start noticing ping is having an affect on your gameplay?

1-50 ms
50-90 ms
90-140 ms
140-180ms
180-220ms
220-260ms
260-300ms
300-350ms
350-400ms
400+ ms

I have a lot of data from internal tests but I am looking for your experiences. Of course remember that jitter and packet loss fps and many other factors also impact gameplay; I'm just looking for what your subjective experiences are at each range of those pings.

I've never had a ping better than 250.

At 250 to 280 i can reliably hit the target but trying to hit a specific component is out of the question. guass rifles will hit usually. little clipping.

At 300 to 350 hitting something is 50/50. If my target has a very low ping(under 100) they can get the drop on me before i can evn pull the trigger. Taking damage 1-3 seconds even after hiding behind cover. Get stuck on things easily. Basicly unplayable uless equipped with lrms or streaks. If the target is shutdown or standing still I can get off a solid shot to the CT. Lasers and ac's become spray and pray. Taget locks can be delayed up to 5 second. It can be very frustrating especially with players screaming newb and other less savery things.

At 350-400 only playable with LRMs, target locks can take up to 10 seconds which at this point its time to go do somethign else. I close program and go make a sandwich and do something useful.
At 400+ targets and self will teleport drasticly, miss 99% of the time and take damage from things you cant even detect or see. hitting stationary targets only and registration is 50/50%.
I close program and go make a sandwich and do something useful.

Just to throw my own personal experience of ping in there,

I am a UK based player, generally ping is in the 100 to 150 region for me. Rarely see any issues when in my general ping.

In cases where my ping has crept over that, the game for me remains decently playable up to ~250 anything over that both friendlies and targets begin to teleport.

At or over that 250 mark my hit reg does become a coin toss. Lazors are mainly useless (unless target is stationary), ballistics and srms have reduced reliability but perform better than the lazors (read sometimes they do reg on a moving target)

>300 and the game becomes a combination of slide show and random micro-groundhog day events (I just ran down that same path from the same starting point 5 times and now im the other side of the map!) If i see my ping in the >300 zone I log out go do something else. Fortunately this is very rare.

Oz player here with a usual ping of between 260-300. I play with streaks and lrms as much as possible cause the 50/50 hit registration with any other weapon is too frustrating.

Can only dream about what hit registration is like with pings below 100.

Oz
ping 250ish on the ethernet connected pc, 275 on my second pc which is on wireless network

Game plays alright for the most part, but you are certainly playing with a disadvantage, with the two computers side-by-side i can spectate my wife play and compare it to her screen when i die.

Hitting a "mech" is probably about 75% accurate at the ping unless you load up on lots of seperate damage weapons like multiple SRM or low caliber (LB-X)AC's (clans in particular)
hitting a specific component is more like 50/50 even with perfect aim and tracer weapons like lasers.

Game is still playable up to almost 500 ping -if its stable- the problem comes when the ping jumps from 250 to 300 to 400 then back to 275. If it holds stable (within 25ms) the game is playable, even with a ping of 400.

The thing i found however, is that while i can still hit the enemy at 400, they hit me a LOT better, i can be running around turning like crazy and a cerllas can spend the entire burn time on a single component (even if i turn around 360°) or i take damage to the rear torso when i am against a wall.

I've pretty much given up playing. Australian ping 280+, sick and tired of have to change my gameplay, can't load up mechs with what I want, ballistics etc. A real shame... I will jump on from time to time, but will no longer spend 1c on this game.

Give us (Australia, Oceania) some local servers...

Playing from the Asia-Oceania region, things start to get ugly at the 300-350ms mark. Wish there was a possibility of having a few servers in Australia, or somewhere in Asia.

i've played around 180-230ms and 280-300ms. honestly playing laser at 200ms is doable, but as soon as you get to 300ms (which i am currently at) it won't do any good, i rather play with projectiles (ppc and any ballistics), or at least if i really want to play laser at least do it with quirks specifically laser duration.

anything above 300ms, just forget it. and i guess that is when i play (or in a match), i always make sure that no other device having a conversation with the internet, otherwise, unstable internet is actually one of the worst enemy for online gaming (to my knowledge). if you really want to play with a high ping, at least do it with stable connection, at least.
