Is Case Really Useless On Xl Engines?

recently i was told that CASE is useless if you drive an XL engine like i do in my Jager DD, so i removed it. Guess what happens. Next 3 games i die because of ammo explosions. That never happend when i had the CASE installed.
I also remembered that ammo explosions were the reason why i installed CASE way back and never died because of ammo explosions since then. My Jager was gone when i lost the side torso because of weapon damage but never because of ammo explosions.
So im really doubting that CASE is useless for XL engines.

In TT, CASE in XL mechs was only to prevent the pilot from going boom or from a total write-off of the mech. Neither of those things matter in this game, so CASE is just a waste of tonnage in XL builds.

You're experiencing a mixture of the placebo effect and confirmation bias. RNJesus has coincidentally began to favor you sometime after you put CASE back in, but the item itself does not actually help your build in any way. You've just been lucky.
*There is supposedly a bug that CASE currently isn't even preventing explosion damage from transferring to the CT, at least for Gauss that is.

Wait. CASE in his side torso *is* preventing the ammo explosion from transferring damage to the XL components in the center torso. Is it possible to have an ammo explosion transfer damage to the CT engine components without destroying the ones in the side torso first?

No it's not. If ammo explodes, your side torso will still die whether or not you have CASE installed. CASE does not prevent destruction, it just contains it to the side torso. And since the side torso is still destroyed, the XL engine mech dies anyways. That's why CASE is pointless on IS XL mechs.

No. The explosions deal full damage. All CASE does is keep the explosion localized into a single body part (generally that body part is destroyed) rather than spreading through multiple body parts. In this situation, IS CASE keeps the explosion from reaching your CT...but it doesn't protect the side torsos that contain the fragile XL engine.

I recall someone stating that it redirects all damage to left leg with 0.21 multiplier.

Imho this is a very wrong Interpretation of what a CASE should be but it is that way - though CASE is for Ammuniton and not for Engines anyway!

In TT, it also stopped the mech being a total write off too... usually if the CT was totally destroyed, the mech couldn't be salvaged....
