People seem to think that other mechs are gonna be viable, but role warfare just doesnt work in the mw universe... Everyone is all like "oh well i can just run around cuz i haz moar mobility" when has that ever mattered in any of the other games? never. An assault mech will beat any other kind of mech period... If a team is all assault mechs against ANY other comp other than all assault they are going to win period. There are no ways around it. Im tired of you people sitting around trying to speculate on ways to get around the assault mechs and come out on top. "oh well a catapult can just shoot missles and - SHUT THE F@#$% up. NO. THEY WONT DO ANYTHING. FIRST OFF

1. they do not have enough missles, and the missles do not do enough damage to destroy an assault mech im sorry but no just no.
2. those stupid lil scouts that are "spotting" for your lock on are going to die in 2 hits from an ac20 im sorry if that hurts ur feelings because u wanna be a scout but thats just how it is.. then boom no more lock on for mr. catapult.

People seem to think that everyone piloting an assualt mech has had a stroke right before the match and wont be able to turn around and alpha strike you once and watch you die. The fact is that assualt mechs will always destroy everything else they come across. period.

There are no if ans or buts about it. there is no way around it. If you are in anything under an assault mech you are inferior. period.

This is the part where everyone starts posting **** like "omg nooo they will be able to outmaneuver and out play them" but the fact is its not going to happen. sorry. Go onto m4 m3 m2 idc what ever ur favorite mech game is and get in a medium mech and try to beat an assault mech that isnt retarded i dare you. Role warfare will never exist in this series... the only other mechs that are worth anything are the scouts but even then the knowledge of where they are for missle lock ons nd such will matter very VERY little.

Oh you might say "WELL THEN THEY WILL CAP THE BASE LOL WHILE LOL U LOL ARE LOL AWAY LOL AND LOL UR LOLOLOL TO TROLOL SLOW LOL" well im sorry but they will leave like what 1 maybe 2 assaults at the base? what then? game over guys.

Im sorry if this upsets all you people out there that are trying to find justification to pilot heavies and mediums but you will always lose to assualts. End of story.

I would like to point out that a cng 1a1 is considered an assault mech because of it's weight. How much you weigh is not as important as how well the mech is designed; if everyone is who pilots an assault mech is strutting around in an atlas then you have a decent point, but a marauder 3r outguns a banshee 3e which is 20 tons it's senior and a mad 5s is pretty comparable to the banshee with the same name code.

Weight isnt everything, it's how you use the weight and what role or roles you are trying to fill with it. Also, if every dufus loads up an atlas because it's the biggest thing around, but possesses less skill than their opponents who are dwarfed in weight then your conclusion may not flesh out.

This has held true in previous titles, but the developers explicitly stated that they would work on fixing this issue in MWO.

How about you shut the **** up and wait for the game to come out before writing stupid, uninformed rants?

Im not arguing with you BUT if you run with just ALL Assaults you may wen some times but the ALL Assault idea is not an instant winner. I can bet you (and this is a friendly bet) not meant to be a flame war... that an even number of mediums or even heavies to your all Assaults idea can and will stand up to your ALL Assault idea just fine. Just because they are Assaults and can carry (most times) more weapons and have more armor, does not mean they dont have weakness. All the faster mediums and heavies have to do is work together, isolate a few Assaults from the rest, run laps around them and the Assaults would have a hard time fighting off the enemy.

I too am very skeptical that anything but assaults will matter. Yes, some scouts will help but it sounds like an Atlas can 'scout' almost as well as a Jenner, the difference is the Atlas has a lot more armor and weapons. Yes it is slower but I am not sure how much that is really going to matter.

I hope they can break the old assault-or-nothing but I don't think they can do it with just 'role warfare'.

EDIT, and that Atlas cockpit is pretty big. Bet I can hit that from 700 meters with a guass round.

ide like to mention that some of those inferior non assult mechs have that same AC20, and if 3 of them are pounding you with it while their support is pounding you with LRM's/PPC's/Gauss rifles your in a world of pain.

True, hunch back mounts an AC 20, and can swap that out for a guass no problem.

Wow, okay then. I'm assuming you have all this knowledge becuase you have either played the final product extensively or worked on the development and production of the game? What? You haven't? Oh...well then...

You're basing this off of previous titles, that's awesome. Why were Assault's dominant in the previous MechWarriors... you could load 'em up with a bunch of weapons and magically hit the exact spot you're aiming with everything. That doesn't work anymore, so scratch that.

Maneuverability and speed never mattered, because of the point I mentioned above. Also, the differences between turn rates and torso twist speeds were not exactly different, so tracking a moving target was pathetically simple. Judging from dev posts and videos shown thus far, they are now decidedly different (Heavier chassis turn and twist MUCH slower than lighter ones), so throw that out the window.

Yes, a single Catapult typically doesn't carry enough missiles to put down an Assault on it's own. Couple it with another Cat, or just about anything else pounding on it, and Mr. Assault is going to die, there is no way to get around that.

And, while a scout 'Mech will die to AC/20 fire, good luck getting into range. You really think that scout is going to wander inside 270 meters, right in-front of you, and take it? I seriously doubt that. More like he'll be well outside your AC/20 range and laughing while you try desperately to get close enough to hit him.

I really, really hope to see you running around in your Awesome or Atlas after launch, so I can run circles around you with my Cicada and pick you apart piece by piece.

scouts get killed in all games that need scouts ie WoT and its my main class in that game but i still live till the end of a game (sometimes)
but always with massive rewards, like in most warfare its all about the area your fighting in and your knowledge of said area.
how can u use cover provided and how can u keep line of sight without been seen there's always variants to take into account,
how this will translate is yet to be seen in MWO, but i think its way to soon to say this is fact this is law.

you may actualy (if you can play the weight right) fit 2 more ppc's in the place of the medium lasers, making for a terrifying quad PPC's hitting your face (although your gonna be in heat city)

youll see... there really will be a BIG reason to have mixed units and not run all one thing. This game really does have the paper, rock, scissors theme to it. There really is not one type of mech that is better than another ALL THE WAY AROUND. Each mech and weight class will have advantage and weakness for sure.

K2's mount dual MGs, so using the hardpoint system and an XL engine, you could probably mount dual torso mounted AC/20s in a K2.

brute force is all but powerless against mobility sure an atlas is durable as a fortress and can deal out firepower on levels that most are supprised it doesnt put the pilot at risk of being prosecuted for war crimes. but if there are any aspects atlases and other assaults arent known for its being graceful and subtle (in mech terms)
