Except reverse joints actually work different, especially MECHANICAL joints.
You might know biology..but let those of us that have a background in mechanical engineering, and or machining, have our mere pittance of due alright?

I would have gladly kept biology out of it. I wasn't the one who mentioned it, because it was beyond the scope and convoluted.

But people get on wikipedia and somebody(anybody on the internet really) drops a line with a couple big biology words in it
"This type of articulation resembles a bird's legs, hence the name. However, birds actually have forward-facing knees; they are digitigrade, and what most call the "knee" is actually the ankle"
And everybody preaches it like the gospel.

There is no such thing as a reverse knee. Now if that is some sort of mechanical lingo for a special kind of leg design fine. But its not, its wikipedia lingo, written about a science fiction topic. Knee is a biology term. And there is simply no such thing as a reverse knee. What we have on these mechs most resemble ankles.

So, Tennex, how about you label where you think the major joints (the hip joint, the knee, the ankle, and the ball of the foot) are located on the Mad Cat on your image?

Bear in mind, I've already pointed out to Jin Ma (who actually made the original version of the image you've used) where each the joints actually are (which demonstrates that both you and Jin Ma are, in fact, wrong ).
Spoiler

I'd also like to see you (and/or Jin Ma) produce a frontal-view version of that image, and point out exactly where you think the Mad Cat's thigh/femur & hip joint are located relative to the 'Mech's pelvis assembly & the torso rotation ring.
Here is the original combined front & side image, for reference:

That doesn't answer the question.

Where do YOU label the major joints of the Mad Cat's legs (the hip joint, the knee, the ankle, and the ball of the foot)?

The Knee, is a joint between the Femur, and the Tibia
The Ankle, is a joint between the Tibia/fibula and the Tarsus

If we put 2 and 2 together. On that chart, its pretty clear where the joints would be.
The "ball of the foot" Is the calcaneus, best represented by the area painted yellow in the above chart. It is not a patella(Knee) with some strange projection.

As you can see in this depiction of a dog's hind legs.

Giving the dictionary definitions for what those joints are still doesn't answer the question.

Show us, on the side-view picture, where you believe those joints (along with the hip joint & the ball of the foot) are located for the Mad Cat.

Dude the knee. Is between the femur, and the tibia. Go to the image. Look for the word femur and the word tibia. And check what is between them.

It's very easy. You can do it.

Show us where these joints are.

Now, Tennex, why don't you likewise show us where YOU think these joints (and the corresponding leg segments) are?

and in particular, show us HOW the hip/Femur flexes

BTW, thanks Strum, I was planning to do pretty much exactly this when I got home. Saved me the effort, and it's less sloppy than I would have been.

Were I a gambling man, though, from the last few pages, I would probably not wager on him getting/admitting it. Sadly. Because he has made it personal and an attack against him, instead of the correction of a misconception that it started as.

Dawg, projections do not come out of knee caps. Its not how things work. The calcaneous is not segmented and there are no phalanges inside the calcaneous.

Spoiler

You can see the calcaneous in a dog's hind leg serving as an insertion point for tendons.

Lol you don't even know facts. You people arn't even responding to facts "what is a clacaneous??" "picture with toe joint *CLAP CLAP CLAP* "

The calcaneous is the heel of your foot. You can't wiggle the heel of your feet. However, a mad cat certainly can wiggle its hind toe. Because guess what its not a calcaneous, those are phalanges. And within them are interphalangeal joints which allow them to wiggle. Well gee if the calcaneous isn't touching the ground, where is the ankle joint?? Maybe its higher up?

still waiting for you to show us the femur, and how it works. Timberwolves have no heel to begin with, sparky, thus you little attempt to obfuscate? Fails like the rest.

What you are calling the heel (oh boy, you wiki'd calcaneus, bully for you) doesn't even exist on 90% of the chicken walkers in this game.

OOps.

Please, continue with your thesis, professor, and SHOW us how this Femur/Hip works, since the ball at the Madcats pelvis is the knee, in your thesis. SHOW US THE FEMUR; where it is, how it flexes or gtfo.

Sir, please show me where the axial atlantal joint is on the atlas. Thanks.

Lol point is. A chicken walker don't need a femur to walk, any more than an atlas needs a spine.

it's neck? Doesn't have one, also, it's atlantoaxial. Just as you seem to be lacking the Vertebral column to admit when you are wrong.

And so, you remove the whole femur, and hip, and just attack the knee to the pelvis? Brilliant. Grasping at bad semantics, much?

It also doesn't exist in 100% of birds lol. Because the metatarsal and the tarsus(includes calcaenous) are fused in birds. As in, its still in the same location, but fused to form a longer bone.
