And what even is "midfoot gait" In all the midfoot gait you claim, the toes touch the ground first.

What part of the foot lands first isn't counting toes. When he is talking about gaits, it has to do with what part of the foot lands first I believe, so most humans tend to be heel-strike gaits but those who are flat footed probably tend towards being mid-foot gait.

I know it makes us uncomfortable sometimes when things around us don't fit neatly into our cookie cutters. But please don't try to shove these circle pegs into the square holes.

Cliches don't make for a great argument.

Lol no hes trying to force these ideals of anatomy onto the mechs and something didn't fit quite right so he made up a new word.

Simple google search says these terms are actually pretty common.....

As for ideals of anatomy, while all the muscle structure is not really compatible, the fact that mechs have feet, ankles, lower legs, and upper legs means the basic can still be applied since it really has to do with what parts actually touch the ground in a normal gait.

Sir, please

In the "midfoot gait" mechs the toes touch the ground first.

Which guess what, in all the "midfoot gait" mechs the toes touch the ground first.

Toes aren't considered part of the gait in this case because you aren't putting your weight on them (normally), they are just to help with balance. Put into human foot terms, forefoot gait would be the ball of your foot, midfoot would be both the ball and heel at the same time (since the arch can't be landed on) or heel of your foot first. Nothing to do with toes because toes can technically be anywhere on the mech's foot.

I think you just realized yourself why it doesnt make sense to apply the anatomy we know to these mechs

OP is right.

They went from "let's make every much unique with a love to details" to "just get it out as fast as possible"

I think a reasonable person would think that the "back toe" is some sort of articulating phalanges. Instead of making the leap that they are tarsal bones.

Especially when the idea of the tarsal bone being used as a lever between the tibia and fibula like in digitigrades is clearly demonstrated in the spike that comes off some mech's legs. (I know, I know, thats a gastrocnemius tendon)

It's not, in the case of the Mad Cat. Nice try, though.

The joint around the spur (technically, the "Lower Leg Mainframe Member") is in fact the Mad Cat's knee, the joint above that is in fact the hip joint (and includes the "Hip Mechanism Lubrication Point"), and the joint below that is the ankle (and includes the "Ankle Rotation Balance Plate" & its housing), with the central segment below the ankle being the 'Mech's foot (to which the toes then attach via the "Toe Mainframe").

Says the "table top game designer" . And they would say the same thing when pointing to the chicken's legs
But you and I know better. Reverse jointed plantigrades don't exists. Knees will never point that way only ankles can point that way.

Our timbewrolf is complete ldiffernt

Stop referencing these terrible sources.

Bottom line is animation quality went down. Saying that it's a designer choice is a lot like saying ME3 endings are an artistic choice. Ridiculous white-knighting.

I think it's probably more down to the 3D artists and animators not being professors in biology (the incorrect walking anatomy not the general animation and graphical quality).

Wow... I was really dreading that the Grasshopper will be huge as all hell...

God damn it, get your **** together, guys.

I know that feel bro, Centurion is the only mech i currently own and it's absolutely ginormous! Especially when compared to other 50 tonners like the Hunchback and the Enforcer (which looks like a light mech in comparison)

Cents are durable as **** compared to hunchies though. they just soak hits and keep on ticking.
