It's the Enforcer level badge (Resistance Badges were added.. if you haven't seen the threads about the pics).

From a practical standpoint (e.g. in-universe manufacturing concerns) though, there would generally be some correlation between the bore (inner diameter) and the outer diameter (e.g. the outer diameter of the barrel for a 120mm weapon is likely going to be larger than that of a 50mm weapon), but there would still be some limit (e.g. a 200mm weapon isn't likely, IMO, to have an outside diameter at the barrel of more than a half-meter or so (which would mean a barrel thickness of 150mm)).

In this game, when you shoot the mech on that portion of it's hitbox, you are shooting ARMs and doing damage to ARMs, not the gun.

The Gun is housed inside the arm.

So the idea that it's an armored housing that can be bigger is perfectly reasonable in a game based on giant robots.

Lastly, it just looks better.

If they were going to make all of the guns (mech to mech) the same size why didn't they leave them big. Big guns on tiny mechs would look way better than this ****.
Though making them the same size mech to mech is pointless anyway, its a game, its not a simulator and never was going to be, might as well make the mechs (the reason people play this game) look cool.

Yes. I don't understand the logic as to why, but it controls what is shown on the Forum Badge and Title (the title does not necessarily have to match the badge, like achievements "Aces of Spaces").

I'm actually okay with the Cataphract's new look, and I'd say it is one of few mechs that didn't get mangled in the translation. If anything, it received a tiny buff with the 4X now having a higher mounted gun available on the right arm. A small thing, but still - sometimes that gun clears dirt when the under-barrel one doesn't.

As for the Jagermech, I'm baffled as to why they changed the guns so heavily. It just seems like a waste of resources. The old setup worked, so why change it? Now, maybe there was some behind the scenes code reason for it. Maybe the Jagers were using non-standard weapons, which cost extra resources or took extra effort to track... I don't know... I'd like to think there was some reason for changing something that already worked.

It's what people wanted, uniform scaling. Although PGI did it exactly inverse to what people wanted, instead of getting big guns on small mechs, we now have small guns on big mechs.

a couple of outspoken people wanted uniform weapon scaling. However, this was the exact reason people like me were against it.

The size of the mechs rae too varied, that if u have a weapon that is the perfect size on a small heavy, it will be too large on a small mech, and too small on an assault mech.

It just doesn't make sense to have uniform weapons, especially when the concept art scaling is tailored to be proportional to the mech.

My Jager may not look as foreboding, but I won't get my arms shot-off as often...

Well, it should've been put to a vote, but you know how this works by now...

I guess you are right, though it's still strange that PGI tackled it from the wrong side. Who cares if an AC/20 looks ridiculously huge on a Spider Raven? It's just a joke build anyway.

Plus all these weapons have different manufacturers and different configurations in lore if I'm not mistaken. So why not have guns of differing size?

I would, but none of my Facebook friends play Mechwarrior, so it's pointless for me to rant to them.
Someone else will have to work on this.

its not about showing our friends. Its about putting the embarrassment out in a public place. Complaining in these forums is akin to raging in a sound proof cell. Nobody (mean potential customers) sees it, so PGI really doesn't care that much.

Put it OUT THERE, where it can be pointed at and laughed at, and I bet they do something about it TOOT SWEET.

Holy crap! My Jager has TRex arms!!!!

And good golly, the ac5/2 barrels look sillier than the stubby ones in the original concept art!

Ha, I always think of this poor guy when I hear T-rex...

...a lot of frustrated Jagers out there.
