Had a couple five kill 800 damage matches yesterday, and one 6 kill match on Frozen City where I was the last man standing, killed two or three mechs solo at the end, the last two with the torso mounted LPLs since my arms were littering the ground somewhere around the crashed dropship. It can be a pretty tanky mech, with the obvious caveats that you can't tank more than 2 or so mechs at once (even mediums/lights), and that you need to twist effectively. The speed really helps you pop up where you aren't expected, which can help a lot.
While the AC10 doesn't have the stopping power of the -20 (obviously), it does allow for far more flexibility in terms of recharge time, range and my willingness to waste a shot that might/might not be a good idea. You still need to be conservative with ammo, but not "Holy crap I get 7 shots to a ton" conservative.

So far, ive done better then ive ever done in MWO with these things. Perhaps its me on my dad's PC getting 40FPS and able to actually see the game in real time over a slide show, but still....12 kills in 4 pug games, only 1 death and 1 loss. 550+, 685 and 800+ dmg.
And my Zeus are not even elite yet, much less mastered.
Trying the 9S, 1LL 1ERLL 2MPL 1LRM 15, seems to be decent enough.
IS heat efficiency is nice. People complain about IS 3slot DHS, they dont need nearly the number of DHS as Clans. My Warhawk has 28 DHS and cant fire 2x LPL more then like 4 times before shutting down. The Zeus? It can single fire then tri fire the ERLL, then the LL and 2 mPL together like twice that and still be just fine. It only has like 2 DHS in the engine and like 4 in the torsos.....

sounds interesting, though that armor sounds a little lighter than I'm comfortable with on it, (i know, quirks, I like to face tank a lot of damage lol). still....sounds like a good build.

Btw, I did some minor tweaks to my 6S by downsizing the launcher to an LRM10 and increasing the ammo capacity for my ACs

To fulfill it's spot on the Assault mech roster my Zeus has to be weighted for heavy offense because most mechs kill it in 10-20 seconds, if the opponent pilots are any good at all. Then I just try to not be easy to hit or have lot's of cover to move through.

I really don't know what you're talking about Lightfoot. Probably 95% of posters on here would agree the Zeus tanks rather well, and even better once it's unlocked. It has favorable size and hitboxes, good speed and decent twist rates, it's arms almost always die first and it has massive armor quirks.
The only way I can see it being "non tanky" is if you are staring at your opponent and no twisting at all. Even those playing in higher Elos agree the mech is very tough.

I find the instant you have 2-3 mechs shooting at it the CT armor is gone in their first salvo very often. No one in my PUGs ever misses the Zeus. Almost all are crack shots and the Zeus CT is un-missable anyway. Ideally you don't let them, but it's not always in your control so you make sure your Zeus has more punch, if possible.
And that's the way it is facing other Zeus's. They walk in front of two mechs and they are dead in a few seconds. Most of the configs I am seeing here would not make it. Push the energy and heat more. Throw those Medium Lasers out.

Don't think I've been insta-cored yet in mine, in over 100 matches in. And only rarely have died to CT death, 90% has been ST...after losing arms, and most if not all my armor.

The difference though is that the Zeus is actually easy to shoot at and doesn't really have the kind of firepower you'd expect since generally you'd have to run a large engine... which eats up a considerable amount of tonnage. That and the somewhat low mounted points isn't even comparable to something like a Highlander (which, actually isn't sucking so bad when you stop thinking about the Hoverjets).
I mean, it's usable, but it's not exactly a good mech for CW. It's interesting, but.. I like the Wolverine-6K's speed quite a bit more.

Small size, good hitboxes, big ol' damage-soaking arms, and the torso armor of a 100-tonner. Not tanky? Uhhh, what?

I'll take a Zeus over a HGN any day of the week. Tougher, more agile and can carry close enough firepower.

While the Zeus has agility, that is somewhat mitigated by needing to do Atlas-level tricks of "being at the same level as your target". I don't ever remember suffering from that in the Highlander.

since the HGN only has one? hardpoint that actually sits higher than the Zeus' (and it's not like it's full shoulder height) I find this somewhat overrated for my play.
And since in both cases the higher mounts are in the torso, I find having the agility to track that weapon much more useful. Highlander still feels like a pig in molasses to me.
